The governor of my fair state proposed a "tax fairness" bill yesterday.

All the usual smoke, mirrors, and thimblerigging were employed, including the phrase "a penny increase" rather than the actual 20% boost.

You can bet your bottom dollar that the perjorative word "progressive" was also utilized; "progressive" is, of course, a code word for "bend over." Whenever I hear the word "progressive." I contemplate emigration.

Sales taxes are just one more reason not to spend money. If you think about it, it's incredible. We're taxed when we earn it, we're taxed when we invest it, we're taxed when we spend it, and we're taxed when we die.

Things have gotten to the point where it's no longer worth working. Why bother? The government's just going to take away everything I earn anyway.

No wonder I don't register to vote. What's the point? I'm "rich" (whatever the hell that means, though I'm beginning to think it means anybody with anything that can be taxed). I AM THE TARGET. It's de Toqueville's "tyranny of the majority" in action.

This is a hoot— from the queen of the ad hominem. Pot meet kettle:

Nah. We're taxed when we gain from our investments. Almost the same thing, but the difference creates nice tax shelters.

we're taxed when we die.

Your estate is transfered by the operation of law to your heirs when you die, so your heirs are taxed, not you, because the dead cannot own property. You are officially out of the IRS' jurisdiction upon death. :D

But more importantly:

No wonder I don't register to vote. What's the point?...It's de Toqueville's "tyranny of the majority" in action.

Kinda ironic, since de Toqueville said that tyrannical majorities are created by apathy, and the dangers of the tyranny of the majority can only be stopped by a free press and willingness to be politically engaged.
