Richard had just finished his Masters degree in Computer Science, and was smiling. He no longer had to tell the females he was busy, he now had time for them. He was starting a new job in a month, and didn't have to move, that would not be near as demanding as what he had to do in Grad School. He planned to just relax that evening.

That evening after he finished his pizza there was a knock on the door. He got up and opened it shocked when he saw who it was. Standing in front of him was his high school girl friend, they broke up during the summer after they graduated, knowing it would be tough to keep the relationship going through the college years.

He knew that she had recently got a job at a university, but he never knew where she was going to be working, she didn't want to tell him. Now the reason why she didn't tell him was clear, she wanted it to be a surprise. His feelings for her never changed, and he hoped her feelings never changed either. “Wow, what a surprise to see you.” He said as soon as the initial shock passed over him.

Ic: Lily stood at he door and watched in wonderment as he opened the door. It had been a long time since she had seen him face to face. She had watched as he passed on campus but left him to his studies.

She had been heartbroken whe he had broken off their two year relationship the summer after they graduated. she knew it was the best thing for the both of them. He had his dreams of becoming successful and so did she.

Over the years she had dated other guys but they were not the same. she had always missed Richard. She had just finished top of her class in the biology department and was ready to continue on to get her doctorate.

“Wow, what a surprise to see you.”

He seemed a bit shoced and that was the exact reaction that she wanted.

"Can I come in?" she asked timidly

Richard motioned for her to come in. "Of course, Lily. What a nice surpise to see you." He said as he led her into the living room,. "I've just finished supper, there is still some pizza left if you want some." He said as he smiled at her. "What brought you to campus, I knew you said you were moving to a different university, but you never told me it was this one."

She made her way to the couch andsat down.

"Thanks for the offer on the pizza, you know I can't eatthe stuff." She blushed slightly "Yea..I got accepted here a few months back. I thought I would surprise you."

She fidgeted a bit as she sat.

"I was just wondering if you thought at all about us?"

She had gotten it out. She had wanted to say it for years. Never had she lost feelings for him. It was unlikelythat she would.

She stood and made her way to the door.

"Oh, you're probably seeing someone...I shouldn't have come"

Richard got up and ran to the door, stopping her from leaving.

"I'm not seeing anyone, I broke up with my last girlfriend, a year ago."

He looked at her smiling, just wanting to kiss her.

"It was never the same, I always dreamed someday that you would show back up in my life."

He gave her a hug.

"I know its been 5 long years since we graduated, and broke up, but I want to go out again now that we are close to each other."

She fel his arm grab her arm antun her towards him.

"I'm not seeing anyone, I broke up with my last girlfriend, a year ago.It was never the same, I always dreamed someday that you would show back up in my life."

He wrapped his arms around her pulling her tight into his embrace.

His embrace was warm. She wrapped her arms around him lingering in his embrace. The feelings that she had before they broke up resurfaced. For so long she had supressed them.

She looked up into his eyes, a few tears of joy welled up in her but she held them back.

"I know its been 5 long years since we graduated, and broke up, but I want to go out again now that we are close to each other."

"I'm so glad you feel the same way."

Richard smiled at her as he held her, before he led her back over to the couch.

"Come on, we've got alot of catching up to do."

He smiled at her knowing nowthey had all the time in the world to catch up.

"So your coming here to do your grad studies, congradulations."

He had his arm wrapped around her, never wanting to let go.

"So your coming here to do your grad studies, congradulations."

"Thanks"

She cuddled into the warmth of his embrace. For so long she had missed it and they were here together.

The memories flooded her. Memories of time that was lost. time that could never be gained. the feelings of hurt and anger surfaced from nowhere.

"I'm not sure what I was thinking coming here. I love you but you really hurt me that summer. I need some time to think." she pulled out her buisness card and set it on the table.

"I'm so sorry about this. I hope to stay in touch." turning to him before walking out the door.

Richard just looked at her with a look of surprise when she left.

He turned and went back to the couch dumbfounded about what just happened. He knew that she was hurt when they broke up that summer, but they both realized that is what had to be done, or else it would just hurt them even more when they realized they couldn't survive the long distance between the two of them.

Richard also knew that he just needed to let Lily have some time to think, they both did. They had kept in touch for sure, but it's nothing like meeting in person again, especially when they both are in the same town again. They both needed to think, and see if they really wanted to get involved again.

Lily made her way back to her apartment confused and alone.

Why had she just done that?

She poured herself a glass of wine and sat on the couch. there she found an old high school yearbook. She slipped though the pages and found the prom section. there they were together on the first page. They were so happy then. there were no worries except for having fun after graduation.

She sighed as she sipped her wine.

Richard sat back on the couch after getting a beer. He had all these thoughts about why Lily just did that, and what exactly did she want now. He needed to get answers to these questions, but he knew Lily, if he pressured her right now, it wouldn't be good for either of them, he needed to give her time to relax and focus, especially if he was going to get back together with her.
