Yuna watched as the early morning sunrise wept its beautiful amber rays over Tidus’ peaceful face. He and the rest of her guardians were all asleep, exhausted from trekking through the ruins of Zanarkand all yesterday and the day before. Yuna’s body was tired too, but her mind was so active she’d had a restless slumber for most of the night. In the end, she decided to stay awake for the sunrise, deciding she wouldn’t be able to get back to sleep anyway.
It was nearing dawn, and soon her guardians would rise and they would move on, each step bringing them closer to closer to Spira’s salvation… and her demise. Yuna closed her eyes to calm her anxiety. She wanted to do this. No, she needed to do this. After coming so far it would be pointless to give up. She had to keep going.
All of Spira was counting on her. All her guardians had come so far for her. She knew none of them would be angry if she gave up, but Yuna couldn’t do that, because she would be angry with herself. She was so grateful for each of her guardians. Each of them aided her not only in battle, but helped calm and stable her. Tidus especially helped her, especially since that night in the Macalania springs… she’d relied on him most of all.
Yuna looked to him again. He was so handsome, even in sleep. He’d always uplift her spirits with his jokes and strength of heart, and, more recently, his tender kisses. Yuna blushed at the thought. They hadn’t gotten much time to kiss as she’d liked. Ever since leaving the Macalania springs, they’d only share the lightest of kisses. They didn’t have much chance to be alone, and time was running out. Yuna felt emotions start to well up in her chest the more she looked at him and thought about how they didn’t have enough time.
They could never have enough time.
“Tidus?” she whispered, grabbing his forearm on a whim and rousing him. She needed him, and it couldn’t wait.
