What are some of your fondest memories of the fair?

What food do you like to eat ONLY at the Fair when it comes around?

Any other things you care to share about fun times you have had at a state/local fair?

I am going to the SC State Fair this upcoming weekend and the following weekend. I look forward to going each year, FOOD galore. Polish Sausages, Italian Sausage's, Kilbasa, Smoked Turkey Legs, Doughnuts, Cotton Candy, Funnel Cakes, Icee's, Magicians doing their thing, Hypnotist shows and just going and seeing all the "neat" stuff that shows up at the fair. Oh and did I say people watching, OMG I love people watching at the fair.

Food Food Food. Yum Yum.

my favorite food is spiral potatoes

for those not familiar
take a potatoe attach it to the end of a high speed drill spin it to a stationary knife that turns the potato into a spiral springy thing and then you deep fry it then cover it in salt vinager and catsup, delious.

I only get this once a year at the annual fair , yummy

Thanks for the reminder Todd. Yes indeed those are good. Though I think they make em a bit different here than up where you are ;)

The State Fair is going on here in Texas now too.

I don't get to go this year :(

But I loved cuddling with my then boyfriend and now husband, during the lazer light show. (ok so that was a looong time ago, but it is a good memory)

My favorite thing to eat at the fair is a Fletchers corny dog. That is the only time I will eat a corny dog lol and no other brand than Fletchers.

I have such good memories of the fair :)

Exactly! I get a Pavlovian reaction at the mere mention or Fletcher's State Fair corny dogs. I skip breakfast and get one right when I arrive at the fair, and then another for lunch. Only time of the year I eat corny dogs. Drool...

I also love the butter sculpture over in the craft building. An artist works for a month in a 40 degree room, molding and sculpting about 500 pounds of Land o' Lakes butter into a work of art. Last time I went she sculpted a campfire scene, complete with a full size horse and sleeping dog.

I also love the car exhibit. You can tell the mood of the autmakers by their choice in colors for the concept cars. The wilder the colors (orange, lime green, purple), the more optimistic they are. If the colors are subdued (red, silver, navy, champagne), then the automakers are feeling a bit more cautious about the industry. It's a really good predictor of times to come.
