No matter who you are, whether you like or hate Star Trek, it has an undeniable influence on our society. Cell phones, tasers, time travel, unification of different races, automated doors, computers (before we knew what they were), space exploration, etc.. even it's own languages.

I suppose my big question is: Will the on/off again obsession with all things Trek ever end?

I do not care if I am dubbed a huge closet geek on this, but am so excited on this new movie.

I recall the first TOS I seen at the age of 5. Since then, I have been addicted to any production of Star Trek. No so bad I go around dressed as a Trekie or visit those conventions, but damn I love this shit.

Captain Kirk has always been my favorite; though I care little for William Shatner in real life. I remember reading a Trek novel years ago of how Kirk grew up an undisciplined mustang type; then evolved into a young Captain.

I have been sooooo fucking waiting for this movie! I feel like a 10 year old again thinking about it.:)

Gene Roddenberry's creation has rocked my little world.

Well darnit just what we didn't need, another trekkie on here.

I admit i'll probably end up watching the movie, and it has to be more interesting than the first one, though probably not as good as The Wrath of Kahn, though really how do you top Ricardo Montalban in that outfit. Besides his incredible talent as an actor he was so incredibly drool worthy in that.

I gotta go find a towel now.

It is THEE only thing about the month of May, just like Iron Man last year, that has me on permanent erection mode. J.J. was born to remake this joint. And Zoe Saldana as Uhura...awwwwwwwwwwww yeeeeeeeeaaaaaah....

I'll take a Bimmer, over watching Beaming, anytime.

Uh, Johnny...

When Star Trek came out, not only was my dad running a computer, but there was a Boy Scout Merit Badge for making one...

Oops...

I will have to consult Turd on this but I'm fairly certain time travel has not been invented yet as a result of Star Trek.

I'm pretty sure our grocery store had pressure-automated doors before Star Trek...

That and the horse you would ride for a nickle.

I'm pretty sure Turd believes the Aztecs will be returning via their time travel machine in 2012 to wind the clock.

Let's hope they are on time, if they are late the entire world stops moving and we are all flung off into space.:eek::eek:

I started a thread on that whole 2012 thingy a while ago and that was one of the theories on what happens.

I believe all those ancient civilizations sprung up from the Atlantians when they escape the destruction of their island home. I believe my theory is and proofs can be validated by Wiki

Star Trek had the first interacial kiss. Spoke was supposed to make out with Uhura but Capt Kirk threw a tantrum. No wonder Nimoy secretly hated the putz.

First on TV anyway and I'm not sure it was what's his face tossing a tantrum, it may have been Nimoy going wait that makes no sense, he is a serious actor after all. ;)

I mean really it doesn't make sense for spock to kiss uhura, he was only half vulcan and desperately trying to be full vulcan.

I remember way to dang much of this darn trekkie crap.

I'm a Trek fan. I like certain casts and characters more than others.

Original will still always be my favorite.

Yes, but when Star Trek aired in 1966, there were computer monitors on desks on the set of TOS. Much in the manner we do now. It was not available for wide usage until Bill Gates came along.

I said it has had considerable influence; NOT invented it.
