The idea of another week of touring was taking it's toll on Rebecca Madden. These past few months happened almost in a whirlwind of instant celebrity status. It seemed like a dream, but like all dreams, reality had to kick in. Managers and recording labels fighting with each other, wanting more money, more from the band but also, more from Rebecca.

Well, one more week and then she would be able to go on a much needed break.

It was a funny thing to think of it like that. Like she was thinking before, years before, she had been a struggling singer, barely making ends meet while in NY. Of all places. But still, she had a place to stay and food to eat. Not much of both but she was surviving.

Now, she had a penthouse near Central Park, a maid and someone to watch after her daughter while she was away.

Her daughter. Andrea. Only 4 years old and the only reason Rebecca worked so hard. She wanted a good life for her child..at least a lot better than Rebecca ever had in life. She could give her that much since she couldn't give her a father.

No. The sad fact was that her child was the result of a one night stand with a stranger. Thomas Whitney. Well, at least that was the name he had given Rebecca when they met that one faithful night after one of her shows. It seemed odd too, Thomas didn't seem the sort of person to hang out in that type of club. But still, he fit in. He was so handsome that Rebecca fell for him instantly. He was cool and collected. He had a 'don't fuck with me' attitude exuding from him.

He was tall too, at least 6'4" to Rebecca's 5'6" frame. He wasn't over muscled but nor was his scrawny. Lean and moved liked a cat.

There had been no one since him.

Thomas Whitney
Jarrod Vincent
Ryan Prior
Michael Finley

These were just some of the names he used. In fact, he used so many names in his line of work that often it was difficult for him to remember his real name. Oh yes, Gerald Kelly. That was the name his mother had given him. It was a name he had not used in quite a few years.... not since he left the Navy where he had been a SEAL. Yep, that was the last time he was Gerald.

After completing a top secret mission with his SEAL teammates, he was taken to an office building somewhere in Virginia. He was recruited to work as a sniper. He didn't even know who it was he was being recruited to work for. He thought it might be the CIA, but then he thought it was DHS. He came to find out it was neither. He worked for an agency that didn't have a name. He endured a year of physical, mental and emotional training that was designed to see if they could break him. They couldn't. Now, for the last several years, he traveled the world eliminating threats to his country.

He was sitting in a hotel room in Germany when he saw her image on the television. He remembered the face. He remembered how beautiful she was. Then he thought about the rest of her and how wonderful the night had been that they spent together. He was amazed at what he learned about her from the television program. She had made it big. She was a superstar. She was on top of the world. Rebecca Madden had certainly come a long way from that club that he met her in. He was happy for her. There were not many people he could be happy for. He never got a chance to establish any type of relationships. At that moment, he was happy to hear about Rebecca.

There were times when Rebecca had considered walking away from the music industry. Like the time she found out she was pregnant. But her agent insisted she just take it easy until after the birth of her child and then move on with her career. It was an easy enough request and when hearing the crowd like this, she knew it wasn't a mistake...but yet, there were other times she did consider walking away from it all, just to spend more time with her daughter.

Now, with the tour winding down, it was a perfect time to take some time off and really enjoy it.

By the time she stepped off the stage, she was a hot mess. It was a side the fans didn't get to see. She was sweating from the lighting and out of breath from singing hard and to top it all off, her voice was hoarse. All she wanted to do right now was to take a quick shower and get home to rest. But nope, there were after parties to go to and signings to do. It wasn't all half bad and in the end, it was worth it.

Tonight was the last night in Germany. After tomorrow, she would be heading to one more stop, Milan, Italy and then from there, home. It was a good thing after this week she would be on vacation. There were some private places she wanted to take her daughter, who would be meeting her in Milan, for a small personal vacation.

He had no idea what he was doing. He found himself leaving his room and the next thing he knew he was walking the streets. Walking the streets was not unusual for him. He did it on every assignment he had. If he was in a new city, he would walk the streets to familiarize himself with everything. If he was in a city he had been to before, he would walk the streets to see if anything had changed. He always had a purpose. Tonight, that was not the case.

Before he knew it, he was standing outside of the concert venue. He was not one to go to concerts. There were too many people around and most of them were artificially stimulated, which could lead to confrontations that might require him to use one of the skills in his special skill set. That would not be good for anyone involved.

In fact, he could only think of one other concert he had attended. That had been at the club where he met Rebecca, and now, here he was, outside of an auditorium where she was playing to a very large crowd. He saw people starting to leave the auditorium, so, he walked around to the back. He watched the stage entrance from a short distance away. He saw the door open, and several men came out....followed by Rebecca. Wow, she looked even more stunning than he remembered.

The crowd was wild. Rebecca wasn't used to this sort of madness but she put on a brave face and walked with her 'paid by the hour' security. She felt people grab at her but she did her best to ignore it.

Normally in the older days, she would have stopped to sign some autographs and do a few pictures, but the crowd was just too big and wild tonight. So, with insistence from her manager, she was to go directly to her car and head back to the hotel before leaving in the morning to her next show.

Speaking of her manager, Allen, he was right beside her, his hand on her arm, gripping it painfully and dragging her through the crowd of fans. He did the talking for Rebecca and answered the crowd when they called out to Rebecca. This irked her but tonight, she was too tired to say anything about it.

As beautiful as Rebecca looked as she exited the concert venue, she didn't look happy. He did not see the smile of a woman who had obviously become a huge success in the music industry. Why wasn't she happy? Why would someone who had reached the pinnacle of success and who had so many adoring fans not be happy?

He moved sideways along the barricade that was erected to keep people away from the exit. He could see a guy that had Rebecca by the arm and was guiding...no, pushing, her toward the limousine that was waiting for her. He noticed Rebecca attempt to pull away from the man. He tried to get in her line of sight.

He wasn't sure why he was doing this. He made it his business not to be recognized by people, and now he was trying to be noticed by a woman that he met once..... 4 years ago. He doubted she would recognize him. He didn't call out, because it was useless, since the crowd was so loud. He knew this was a futile attempt, yet, he did it anyway.

She didn't hear him, of course.

But something...something told Rebecca to stop and scan the crowd. She yanked her arm away from Allen and stopped. This caught the security off guard.

And then she saw him.

After all these years, he stood before her, just a couple of feet away. At that moment, the crowd was gone... it was just them.

It took a few tries but Rebecca moved toward him... she thought she was moving but she wasn't. Allen had grabbed her by the arm and yanked her back to the car... it was as if she was swallowed up by the crowd and shoved into the limo.

Inside the car, Rebecca didn't say anything, instead, she just sat there, stunned. Did she really see Thomas? Or was she just exhausted from the night's events?

He saw Rebecca look in his direction. Then, it appeared that she tried to move in his direction, but the man with his hand on her arm redirected her toward her limousine. Before he knew it, she was gone.... the limo was pulling out and all he could see were the taillights.

He started to walk away from the concert venue. He wondered what he was thinking coming here in the first place. He couldn't believe he had actually done it. "What the fuck were you thinking?" He yelled out loud. Why was she on his mind? She probably wouldn't want to see him anyway.

He decided to head back to the hotel where he was staying. He would be gone tomorrow afternoon anyway. Of course, he was certain that Rebecca would be one in the morning. As hard as he tried not to think about her as he walked back to the hotel, she was the only thing on his mind. He couldn't get how gorgeous she looked out of his head. As he arrived at the hotel, he saw a limo pull away from the curb. It looked like the same as the limo Rebecca had been in, but, of course, many of them looked the same.

A few hours after she showered and changed into a pair of sweats and shirt, Rebecca found herself on the roof of the hotel she was staying at. It was a chilly night but she didn't care. It seemed that this was her only time to be truly alone while on tour.

She looked at her watch and quickly calculated the time difference between Germany and NYC. Even though it was only 3am now, it would be around 9pm...way too late to give her daughter a call to see how she was doing...

"Damnit." Rebecca muttered as she leaned against the ledge of the waist high wall on the roof and took in the lights below her.

Her mind wandered back to seeing him again in that crowd. It was hard to believe that she had seen him. But yet, she couldn't help but think it was real. But...if it was real, why didn't Thomas come to her?

Yet, if he did. What would she have done?

He walked into the lobby and looked around. He took everything in. There did not seem to be anything out of the ordinary, and there also did not appear to be any evidence that a superstar singer had just been there. It wasn't like he was an expert on those that followed singing stars, but, he figured there would have been some followers there after a show.

He moved across the lobby to the bank of elevators. His movements were deliberate and calculated. When he arrived, he pushed the button for the elevator and stepped back and to the side as he awaited its arrival. Once, on the elevator, he went up to his room. When he got into his room, he moved to the window and looked out over the city.

His mind was empty..... except for Rebecca. He continued to wonder what his intentions were for going to her concert venue. He thought about how stunning she looked... even more beautiful than when he had met her four years ago. He wondered what she had been up to. Why did he really care, though? He knew her for one night... so, he really didn't know her. This is what made the whole idea of her being in his head even crazier.

Her departure was supposed to be hush hush...

Yeah right. That was a big joke. It seemed these overseas fans were a little more dedicated to making sure they got a glimpse of the stars from the states. She hadn't gotten any sleep last night because there was so much to do. Arrangements to be made and such. It didn't matter because she could get some rest on the flight to Italy.

And after that, it was her vacation time. No tour, no fans and more importantly, no agent.

As far Allen was concerned, he was good at his job, but lately, he had been trying to worm his way into Rebecca's personal life. And that was something she didn't approve of.

He didn't sleep at all. He wasn't sure if it was the assignment he had just completed, the assignment that he was leaving for, or the fact that he had run into Rebecca. He got out of bed and sat looking out the window. He was trying to figure out why she was in his head.

After watching the sunrise, he showered, dressed and packed. He checked his cell phone to make sure that his travel arrangements were in order. Once they were confirmed, he made sure that he left nothing and headed out of the room and walked to the elevator.

When he arrived at the elevator, he pushed the down button and waited, patiently. When the doors opened, he could not believe what he saw in front of him.... rather, he couldn't believe who was standing there.

In the elevator, Allen was droning on and on about plans in Italy that he had made for Rebecca. A few signings before the concert, and perhaps, some after. Then he mentioned something about having dinner with her on the night of her daughter's arrival.

That was it.

Turning to Allen, Rebecca let him have it. They were both arguing so loud that no one noticed the elevator had stopped until Allen looked over Rebecca's shoulder, "Do you mind?! This is a private car pal, wait for the next one!" Allen reached for the button to close the doors but Rebecca turned around to see who he was talking to.

Their eyes locked onto each other and Rebecca felt herself moving forward. It wasn't her eyes playing games with her last night. It really was him.

He looked at the guy arguing with Rebecca. Normally, he would have stepped onto the elevator car and had an interesting conversation with the man. This time, however, all he did was stare at Rebecca. He was shocked to see her. His intention had been to get on the elevator, check out and move onto his next assignment. Now, he just looked at her.

He broke the eye contact and moved his eyes over body. He was taking this all in. The , he turned to the man that she had been arguing with, looked him dead in the eyes and said to him, "I will get on any fucking elevator I want and there isn't a damned thing you can do about it. Not even the pieces of shit you hire for security at the concerts could stop me."

He stepped onto the elevator, and, as the doors closed, he turned to Rebecca. "It has been a long time. You look fantastic and I see that your career has skyrocketed. I am very happy for you Rebecca." His co us was entirely on her now. It was as if they were alone in the elevator.

"Thank you..." Rebecca said as she didn't pay attention to Allen and just watched as Thomas walked in and Allen backed off. He never backed off easily so mentally, Rebecca knew he was up to something.

"You don't look too bad yourself.." She said, "I'm surprise you remember me..." she had wanted to add more but because of the company, she didn't.

As the elevator started to move again, Rebecca's mind flashed back to that night she and Thomas had spent together. Her face flushed and she had to look away as she nodded, hearing his answer.

Allen moved to Rebecca's said and loudly whispered, not caring about the consequences, "Is this Andrea's father?! The guy you met that night?!"

Just as Rebecca was going to say something, the elevator reached the first floor and the doors opened, they were all met by a mob and yelling and screaming, something Rebecca was used to but right now, she would have given it all up to talk more to Thomas.

"How could I forget someone as beautiful as you?"

He looked at the man, and then back to Rebecca. His gaze went back to the man who had a smirk on his face. Oh, how he wished he could smack that look off his face. He turned back to Rebecca with a questioning look on his face.

Before either of them could say anything, the elevator doors opened. Of course, Rebecca was mobbed by her adoring fans. He stepped back against the wall and out of the way. He did not want to do anything that would interfere with Rebecca or her career. He waited to see if Rebecca would exit the elevator, and when she hesitated, he grabbed the guy, pushed him out of the elevator car and hit the butto for the top floor.

"Sorry about that, I just needed a little more time with you and I thought it better if we were alone."

She was a bit shocked when she saw Allen being pushed out of the elevator. Her mouth closed as the elevator started to move again, this time up.

"Wow, he's not going to like that..." Rebecca muttered as she quickly dismissed what had happened and focused her full attention on Thomas.

Rebecca didn't say anything for a bit as the elevator moved toward the top floor. She had never thought about this day...the day she would see him again. But here they were...face to face and she had no idea what to tell him or how to act around him. "So... how are you?" She said, as a last ditch effort to break the tension she was sure she was imagining.

"I have to be honest with you, I am not really concerned with whether he will like that or not." He continued to look at Rebecca.

"I am good thank you. How are you? You look fantastic, and by everything I have seen, your career is going very well. Doing quite well for yourself." When the elevator doors opened at the top, he pulled the emergency stop button so that the car wouldn't go anywhere.

He stood in silence, staring at her. The one thing he could never forget about Rebecca was her beauty, and she was even more beautiful now. "So, tell me, what was the guy talking about? Who is Andrea, and what did he mean when he asked if I was her father?

Rebecca wanted to say well you know me...

But the thing of it was that he didn't know her just as she didn't know him.

There was a connection there, that was for sure, but at this point Rebecca thought it was only a sexual thing seeing as she only knew the man for less than a few hours at the most. "Call it hard work and lot of dedication..." She said as the car stopped and he prevented it from going anywhere.

Then he asked about what stupid Allen had said...his stupid remark about Andrea....goddamn it, this wasn't how she had wanted to present the news to him should she ever see him again. Taking a deep breath, Rebecca just shrugged and didn't look at him as she said, "Our one night resulted in me getting pregnant...thus making you a father..."

He listened to Rebecca and watched her closely. He could tell that she was uncomfortable with what she was about to share with him.

Then, he heard her say it. He was a father. Yes, it was the result of a one-night stand, but, still, he had a child. This was something that he never expected. He never thought he would be a father.

"So, I take it that it is a daughter based on what the guy said. He mentioned Andrea. I am pretty good at picking up clues, which is how I assumed you have a daughter... actually, we, I guess."

He stood there and looked at her. He was trying to figure out what to say next. It was rare that he was at a loss for words. This was the one time. "I am at a loss Rebecca. First, I actually run into you here, and then I find out that our short time together resulted in a child. Do you have a picture I could see?"

He asked Rebecca for a picture and she just stood there until the signal reached her brain that he asked her for something. Reaching into her jacket pocket, she pulled out her phone and brought up a picture of Andrea. It was one she had been sent by the nanny just that morning...

It showed a little girl, dark hair, deep blue eyes, smiling at the camera and holding up a small stuffed animal.

She gave her phone to Thomas and watched his reaction to what he was looking at. "I don't know what to tell you. I understand that if you don't want to be a part of her life. I mean, it has been awhile and this is certainly a crazy way to find out but..." she trailed off and just watched as he swiped at the pictures on her phone. All of Andrea.

It was all she had when she was on the road so there were a lot of them.

He stared at the pictures....one after the other. Andrea was beautiful. "She looks just like you Rebecca. That is certainly a good thing. She has your beauty."

He processed what she was saying about her understanding if he didn't want to be part of her life. Hell, 10 minutes ago he knew nothing of the existence of his daughter. He just looked at Rebecca, and then back at the pictures of Andrea.

He handed Rebecca back her phone. "I would like to meet her. You decide how you would like to introduce me. I do not want to mess things up for the two of you. It looks like the two of you have been doing just fine without me, so, I do not want to interfere."

He took out a pen and the notepad he kept in his pocket. He wrote down his personal cell phone. Not many people had that number, because he did not have many personal relationships. He handed her his number. "Here is my number. I know you need to get going. Take your time and decide. I will understand if I never hear from you, but I would really like to meet Andrea."

He reached over and pulled the button on the elevator, and pushed the button for the Lobby. He leaned in and kissed Rebecca on the cheek, and then stepped back from her.

Rebecca took the paper and looked at it and nodded. She was at a lost for words. Her eyes closed when he leaned in and kissed her cheek. To be truthful, she was expecting more, but now wasn't the time.

As the elevator closed, she quickly pocketed the paper he had given to her and took a few deep breaths. She didn't want to think right now. She had asked a lot of him and as much as she did want him a part of Andrea's life, along with hers...did he want the same thing? She had to give him time to think about. Being a part of Andrea's life was a lot to take on. It was a full commitment, not something that was part time....yet she felt like she was doing it all the time by not being home.

No! There was no time to think about it like that. She was giving her child the best life she never had...

The ride down in the elevator was quiet. Both of them had things running through their minds that made it impossible to speak. He wondered about his daughter. That's right...HIS DAUGHTER. He wondered if Rebecca would allow him to see her. He wondered if he could be a part of his daughter's life. Then, his job went through his mind. He would never want to endanger Andrea or Rebecca.

When the elevator stopped in the lobby and the doors open, the first person there to greet them was was the guy he had thrown off the elevator. His face was bright red and he was yelling something that did not get processed. He allowed Rebecca to exit the elevator first. As she did so, he said lightly to her, "Let me know, please."

When Rebecca went out and started interacting with her adoring fans, he exited the elevator and walked up behind Allen and gripped his neck tightly. He whispered to Allen, "If I find out that you are mistreating Rebecca in any way, I am going to kill you. When I say I am going to kill you, I do not mean figuratively. I am actually going to end your life, and I have a skill set that will allow me to do it in a multitude of ways." He patted Allen on the back and disappeared from the hotel lobby.
