SCENARIO BACKGROUND & INTRODUCTION
Mission Year (M.Y.) 2249
The control room was dark except for the constant flickering and movement of lights and data that flashed upon and past opaque monitors that were shaded in the colours of sky blue. Four people worked in this small room that acted as an arm of the Peacekeeper Command Network upon Planet. The Peacekeepers as they liked to call themselves named this command citadel 'New Midway'. Officer Lance Appenfeldt, son of the now deceased well known PC general Walter Appenfeldt Senior sat at one of the consoles studing the data that streamed by at a increasing pace. News on Planet had been quiet the latest few Mission Years and Lance was a young man that had studied the history of humanity on Chiron at the Skunkworks from a very early age since Planetfall. He also had studied the limited history on the Planetary Datalinks of the Unity vessel that had brought Humanity from their dying homeworld to this Planet that now became home to the last vestiges of Humanity. The control room console's were always plugged into the Planetary Datalinks and through this connection, current and breaking news were quickly picked up. Officer Lance Appenfeldt worked under the U.N. Information Bureau which was funded by the Peacekeeper Security Force which all Peacekeepers knew was the official 'army' of their faction. Lance had yet to see battle as for 42 years relative peace had reigned upon Chiron, regardless of the Mindworm attacks that constantly and unexpectedly hit all factions least of all the Gaians and most of all Morgan Industrial for its pollution. There had been minor scuffles over minerals and resources but many of these faction scuffles ended up being decided in the Planetary Councils held by the Faction leaders or Datalink diplomacy through closed commlinks.
It was another boring shift and Lance stiffled a yawn. The other three workers hunched over their consoles either playing holo card games or commlinking their friends or lovers. Lance however, was a history fan and even though he had already read the history of his Planet and faction, he touched the screen and thought of what he wanted to look at. The new optical computers were fused at birth by a small geno-chip to all Peacekeeper baby so that many information networks acted as neuro activators, also a form of telepathy. The screen flickered momentarily and reformed within the next second to show information on Planetfall. Humans of all factions saw the first days of landing on Planet as 'Planetfall', a fall from the stars onto a whole new planet. With a bemused smile, Officer Appenfeldt read;
Mission Year 2100: PLANETFALL - Eight pods fired their thrusters and maneouvered down toward Planet Chiron's atmosphere. Close behind the launched pods, the superstructure of U.N.S Unity began to disintegrate as it aced toward's Planet's thick soupy atmosphere. One pod was not fast enough to maneouver away from the outer reaches of the ship's twisted metal, as the metal slammed into the side of the pod, making it spin for just a moment before it exploded into a million pieces. A thousand souls gone in one single instant. The other surviving seven pods escaped and entered the atmosphere of Chiron, landing on different parts of Planet. Each pod was led by the surving chain of command. One pod however was captured by the Militia group the 'Spartan Coalition' led by a former security officer. Soon after the pods landed on Planet's surface, the superstructure of what was left of the Unity that did not burn up in the atmosphere of Planet crashed on a high plateau. And now the remains of Humanity were alone, each pod in a separate section of Planet's surface, alone until communications were restored. It was indeed, a brand new chapter in Humanity's future to be written...seven factions, seven ideologies, but only one destiny....
Lance loved reading about Planetfall over and over again. He closed off the Planetary Datalinks and returned to the news screen. But the Planet of Planetfall was way different to how it was now on Chiron. Lance chuckled to himself wondering what his leader Pravin Lal thought about the new factions that had recently formed. Lance knew and agreed with the U.N. Charter that had been taught and learned by all Peacekeeper citizens. The Charter had been brought to Planet from Earth now presumed dead. The peace on Chiron was the fundamental principle that wove the PC society together.
Suddenly a warning chime began and continued itself in a self repeat mode on the new item on his screen showing that a new news item had been launched on the Datalinks as a urgency. Lance was razed from his meandering thoughts and with his training well instilled, his body became active. He touched the chiming news item and a small holo vision bulletin unfolded itself under the University seal. As he read the brief breaking news item, his eyes widened and the other workers read the same news bulletin at the same time.
UNIVERSITY OF PLANET NEWS ITEM: From UOP Space Lab 'Novy Mir': RELEASE - Spaceship detected 1 parsec heading to PLANET - PRESS RELEASE JUST BREAKING: Hull doplaric wave analysis - unidentified alien ship is of TERRAN origin. Unknown if life support is on ship. PLEASE STAND BY. PRESS NEWS END PROGAM......
Lance shook his head and read and reread the news bulletin. Terran? Did they mean the new Terran League faction? But they couldn't as the faction didn't have space capability. And then a chilling thought mixed with hope stole through his soul. What if Terran meant the old homeworld - Earth? Shaking his head, he turned his attention to the screen and a new message blinked on the screen. And this message would shock everyone on Planet for the message was not written in words for anyone but an access codex;
U.N. Central Computer: User initialised....User logged on Central Processing Datalink. Before continuing, please verify authority code as per coded instructions *****.....3487. Thankyou, Captain John Garland, you are now in the Planetary Archives: Awaiting orders......
Standing up startled and shaken, Officer Lance Appenfeldt and his other 3 workers were shellshocked as well as thousands of humans on Planet. A ship from Earth was coming and the hidden Unity code for the Captain had been activated. What did this all mean? And the answers to Planet and Humanity would be revealed through coming actions.
