I was just reading a couple of different threads this morning and I find a couple of posters to just fit this discription.

One of the main problems with sociopaths is that they can illicit a reaction from people that gives them so much more credence and power then they have or deserve. They can suck you in. It is best to go "Oh yeah, he is a sociopath" and just leave them alone.

Yeah, sometimes history plays into it, too. I just read the posts and said, "yep, he's at it again..."

Most of the time now, I can do that. Other times, I can't. :)

Sociopath-baiting can be a fun and rewarding experience...as long as you don't take it seriously. My favorite approach is to try to remain supremely rational, which just completely drives them up a wall.

Yeah, especially when you are the target. ;)

I pride myself on the occasional "fuck you" I get when I do that, Johnny.

They get boring too quickly, at least for my taste...never an interesting dig, it is always, STFU or 'cunt' or whatever. They never put any real thought into it.

People who name call are just inarticulate and are not who I am talking about - they are not true sociopaths. You missed the "glib" part.

I am just being my Passive Aggressive self. :)

There's a whole website run by some psychology guy who is pop-psychology-popularizing the sociopaths-R-everywhere concept. With tests and all. I remember that the hags at Ms. Forum latched onto that site and managed to prove that every troll ie non-party-line toer there was a "sociopath".

The Sociopaths Amongst Us

Glibness/Superficial Charm - maybe
Manipulative and Conning - I can be, but why bother when they already love me?
Grandiose Sense of Self - lol. See above.
Pathological Lying - Never... Ok maybe once in a while but who are you going to believe
Lack of Remorse, Shame or Guilt - Hey, the show must go on.
Shallow Emotions - I do not!
Incapacity for Love - I have loved and I have been brutalized for it.
Need for Stimulation - That's more for pychopaths
Callousness/Lack of Empathy - I am empathic but I usually choose not to use it.
Poor Behavioral Controls/Impulsive Nature - Solid as a rock... no lava
Early Behavior Problems/Juvenile Delinquency - Very early, like preteen early. I was mature for my age.
Irresponsibility/Unreliability - So what. I need a babysitter or my spaciness takes me away
Promiscuous Sexual Behavior/Infidelity - n/a
Lack of Realistic Life Plan/Parasitic Lifestyle - I have plans and they seem to be working
Criminal or Entrepreneurial Versatility - Why bother risking the risk?

Other Related Qualities:
1. Contemptuous of those who seek to understand him - I have trust issues
2. Does not perceive that anything is wrong with him - I have faults, but I can get around them
3. Authoritarian - Say what? Sociopaths are leaders that don't like to be lead.
4. Secretive - the pawns need not know
5. Paranoid - The pawns are against me
6. Only rarely in difficulty with the law, but seeks out situations where his tyrannical behavior will be tolerated, condoned, or admired - It's called testing the boundaries of this oddball society
7. Conventional appearance - I'm GQ all the way
8. Goal of enslavement of his victim(s) - They will follow if they wish, but I'm not going after them
9. Exercises despotic control over every aspect of his victim's life - Only where it affects my life
10. Has an emotional need to justify his crimes and therefore needs his victim's affirmation (respect, gratitude and love) - Ooo that's eerie
11. Ultimate goal is the creation of a willing victim - Why are drones called victims?
12. Incapable of real human attachment to another - Because humans are inheritantly evil
13. Unable to feel remorse or guilt - The show must go on
14. Extreme narcissism and grandiose - I rule, there's no question about that.
15. May state readily that their goal is to rule the world - No, just my world

Sounds like a mixture of pychopathy and sociopathy, not one or the other.

No matter how you label it, it is toxic.

April, only if I can continue to provide both, you can be as aggressive as you want. I just like to mix them up. It was from all the years in upper management. They train you that way.:)

Desert Amazon, the most important part is to recognize it so you don't fall under their spell. You don't have to not like someone if they are a sociopath, you just need to be careful not to let them do a number on you. Recognition is the key.

And don't ignore your instincts about them either. They present a very convincing case for themselves.

Yes they do. If a person makes you question yourself, your values, your self esteem in a way that is painful, question where they are coming from very hard. Usually it is to try an gain some control over you.

If you don't allow it, eventually you will get a "fuck you," too. It is something to be prized.
