For me, certain things just smell like summer, and when they fill one’s senses, one just knows that that special time is upon all of us again.

-- Oil and gas pouring through a two-stroke marine engine… water spray from a powerboat drifting to shore…

-- Those little black “snakes” that children burn in the street at dusk, leaving creepy trails of ashes…

-- Horse stables, hay, and musky barnwood…

-- Suntan lotion-drenched skin…

-- Cotton candy, hot dogs, and the diesel fuel from the generators powering the parking lot carnivals…

-- Leather motorcycle gloves, tobacco, and early morning sunlight…

-- Peppermint soap.

-- Open-air patio bars with the associated lovely perfumes, mixed with leftover tanning oil and cold drinks, dripping with condensation...

Mmmmm… summertime.

freshly mowed grass
honeysuckle climbing over my neighbors fence onto my side
charcoal and slightly charred meat
screams and gleeful squeals during water gun fights that quickly turn into water bomb fights
a fast count quickly followed with the jump rope smacking the sidewalk

It's my favorite time of year.

Oh, yeah! Charcoal on the beach... yessss... The rest are pretty phenomenal as well.

summery can smell me all the way over here!

everything just comes to life during the summer. everyone is outdoors - laughter, music, family and friends.

Freshly mowed grass
Rhododendrons in bloom
Hay, early in the morning
Rain on hot pavement
A breeze off the ocean
The smell of green forests

Honestly, I live in the most beautiful place.

Any time I say something like, "I smell <enter season here> in the air." People think I'm baked.

I'm glad I'm not the only one who understands what I mean and can also recognize the smells of the seasons.

I have mixed feelings about ocean breeze... it's kinda got an autumn feel to me, personally, but what the hell. Let's party!

The smell of cherry ices.
Sound of mopeds up and down the street.
Barbecues.
Tinkle of the sprinkler against my window.
The smell of steamy tar.

hot tar on telephone poles and the hot roads as you walk to the sand on the beach
scents of pine, bark, green grass, and fresh green trees after a soft rain

rootbeer popsicles

fresh sliced water melon and cantaloupe

smokey camp fires off the lake

lilacs in bloom

Charcoal burning
Freshly mowed grass
Clear, clean pool water
Fresh laundry hung on the line to dry

Holy crap!!! I haven't had those since I was, like, 8 or 9... and always in the summertime. Perfect :)
They are my fave.

I miss watermelon and strawberry Italian ices, too.

the sulphury smell of spent firecrackers

the smell of buttery corn on the cob

Mmmm... the heaviness in the air, crushing one's breath, knowing that it's coming and just standing in it, breathing it in...
