Have any of you yanks watched this yet? I didn't even know there was a new version of it. The original Australian version was shown here on BBC a few years back and I loved it. Not sure why they have remade it so soon and with Melissa George again playing the same character (the mother of the kid who gets walloped).

I could not get on with the book for some reason though.

I've not watched it yet. They advertised the shit out of that show. I'm curious about it, as I don't really know how it could be more than a couple of episodes. It seems like it would make a good movie or mini-series, but I'm not quite sure how it could be a whole TV show. But Maybe I'm just short sighted.

How long was the Aussie one? Like how many episodes/seasons?

The first episode didn't really grab my attention. I'll give it a couple more tries, but I have a feeling it won't wind up on my 'must watch' list.

The kid needed disciplining, but not a slap.

I think there were eight episodes, just the one season. And each one was centered around a different character and how the events at the bar-b-q effected them. It was quite gritty - lots of shagging and violence.

Just seems really peculiar to re-do it so soon and with her again. Has she the same lines I wonder, will she play it differently. I presume she's playing his mum again.

The one in the Australian version was a right little cunt. But she had zero parenting skills if I remember right.

the characters were all so bloody unlikable that I couldn't bring myself to care about what happened to them.

The Aussie one? Most of 'em were a bit cunty. I wonder if the Yank one will be like that.

and we would have been British if oh....I dunno.

We didn't beat your asses the fuck outta here back to wherever you came from.

what, when you were in the army, a couple of hundred years ago? i'm sure it's a source of great personal pride for you that you personally, not being a coward and an imbecile, took up arms against an oppressor.

...it wasn't my arse though. it was the arse of some centuries dead soldier, who I know nothing about and have never really considered before.

Well you should consider them.

I was just givin you the business over your americans are assholes snark.

;)

I so frequently want to slap other people's children that I feel like I would be annoyed by this show. Unless they keep slapping bratty kids each week. That could be a thing.

your existence only serves to increase the arsehole content of your nation.
every word you say is evidence of this.

It's a miniseries.

Yeah! Tell her! Remind her about our country kicking her country's ass! That'll teach her to think we're assholes.

I'm with pmann on this one. There's a brief promo of people at a bbq and the sound of a slap. Slapping someone's child is ridiculous but how is it worthy of a television show? I'm completely confused by this premise.

You'll say something nice to me one of these days. It'll be a mistake of course but it'll happen.

Well if they follow the Aussie format it really is, trust me.

There are lots of other plot lines around the characters, the slap is in the first episode only. It's at a family and neighbours party and there are other shenanigans and deceptions going on there that don't come out until episodes later. That one slap tears apart best friends etc. Give it a go - that said it might not be as good as the Australian one.

The Slap (original Australian version) was a great mini series. I enjoyed it a lot. It confuses me so that they would bother to remake something that was already good. Same with The Office, why redo that when it was brilliant? Is there something in the American brain that doesn't recognise other accents, ways of life? Something?

We didn't want to watch it upside down.
