Let's face it: for me, it's not a short list. I've already found it needful to know about merchant sailing ships of the 1860's, theories of subliminal communication, and the migrations of the Geats circa 800 A. D. And that's just for the porn. But I think that today, I reached a new high (or low) of wonk-dom.

I'm researching omnibus routes and fares for the city of London in the year 1879.

(For two hours, might I add.)

Anyone got one to beat that? Join me in geeky, wonkish glee.

Ancient culture in Greece and Crete....and speculation on where Atlantis may have been.

I spent at least that much time with train schedules from all over Europe and a very large atlas to figure out the route, highlights, and times of departure and arrival of the various trains my narrator takes on the 1st part of my "Letters from Pohjola". Checking the date of that first letter, backtracking and cross-referrencing the details I mention, you could easily find out exactly what trains (track, date and time) were taken.

How does that rate in your geeky, wonkish glee-O-meter? :D

Atlantis in somewhere at the bottom of my sink. I'm the worst doing-the-dishes procratinator in human history.

I once researched how it would sound to puke in a big metal bucket for a stageplay I did. Needed to fabricate sound fx.

I loooove it :) Come join me.

(I'll be on the Bishop's Gate to Barnes Line, from 10:10 am daily stopping at Bank, Fleet Street, Cheapside, St. Paul's, Strand, Charing Cross, Haymarket, Picadilly, Hyde Park, Knightsbridge, Kennsington, and Hammersmith.)

*snicker* Think I discovered ancient strata of the earth cleaning my carpets today.

Research... uh... I'll have my people call your people.

I did something similar for a fictional Concorde flight but I carried it a bit further delving into the flight chractersistics and which seats were over the landing gear wells so I could put my fictional passenger in the seat most likely to make a nervous novice flyer even more nervous.

BTW, one of the biggest problems I run into in my renaissance stories is trying to find out how long it took to travel on horseback to various locations. Does anyone know of any good websites about pre-auto travel?

I'm afraid the nearest I got to research was reading 'Pride and Prejudice' to get a feel for the period for my 'Talisman' piece, 'Lucy McFey'! Although I did send Killermuffin some pics of the Roman Wall I'd taken so she could get a feel for the location for her 'Talisman' piece.

Alex, who is going offline now having spent all day marking student scripts, but who can triumphantly say, 'they're done!'

Bet that was some fun research. When you were done, did you borrow one of Ms. Scarlett's soap recipes to clean up with?

For "Boiling Point," I experimented extensively with bra straps. At one point, my daughter walked into the bathroom as I was wrapping a strap around my wrist and asked what I was doing. Naturally, I replied, "Research." (She's only 6.)

All other research has been accomplished via Google (and personal experience).

Oh yes ... I did have some quite intriguing sexual anatomy research to do for "Will."

(All via Google, so don't worry - no horses were harmed in the making of this story, etc. etc.) :D

Rather.... veterinary, was it? ;)

Well, lets see...

Exact position and acess to, as well as internal size of the pressurized compartments in a B-29. And not just any B-29, specifiaclly to the special B-29's used to drop the atom bombs.

Caliber, range, capacity and relative killing power of the Mauser Karibiner as well as extensive research into early scopes.

The tiger tank, exact positioning of access hatches.

Carronades, time they came into use, founderys that prduced them, approximate weight and how they were mounted, rate of fire by an experienced crew.

Harely Davidson, 1100 cc V-twins. Speed, comfort, accessories.

Underware, pretty much across the ages (my heroines will be wearing the appropriate undergarmets for the era).

The red army's advance into Poland, where they were by day and wehre the front extended to, the approximate range before the lines their artillery could reach and the abundance of air cover, specific to the date and place I wished the action to occur.

Porto: Locals, sights, things to do.

For geekiness, how bout the average cross country flying time in a p-51-D variant, air fields where stops would be made and the train schedule to return cross country?

Oh, there was also some very, very, very extensive research done on all forms of sailing, especially the Olympic categories, and amongst them especially 49ers, and also on ship-logs, and on the waters off the coast of Athens (which you can identify only by the coordenates that appear in my Literotica Olympics Day 24 story)

I spent a whole day in Berverly Hills shoe stores researching my Cindy Heller story. That research contributed one line to it. I now know a lot about women's shoes.

Quite a bit of research on weightlessness and dealing with it for a story I'm currently working on. (It's done, I just have to get around to editing it. Care to take a look Shang?)

Hmmmm, what else? Best positions for sex in wter. ie. ocean surf, swimming pools, etc. (Most fun research I have ever done. :D All hands on of course. )

Oh I can't forget. Thirty nine years worht of research into what makes a pervertedly warped individual tick. :p
