The Shits and the Johnsons

The late, great William S. Burroughs divided the world into two kinds of people: Shits and Johnsons.

Shits are people who always have to put their noses into other people's business, always have to be right, think they know how you should live your life, etc. Sometimes, it appears, Shits disguise themselves as 'trolls' here at Literotica--but not always. When I was younger, we'd call those people 'narcs' (regardless of whether it was in reference to drugs).

Johnsons, on the other hand, are people who generally mind their own business, won't call the law if they smell pot--or a cigarette--burning, assumes, to coin a phrase, that there are more things on heaven and earth than are dreamt of in their philosophy. A Johnson will lend a hand if you need it, but won't make you do it his/her way.

Burroughs believed that the current moral/political climate in the US was turning everyone into Shits--since media, the govt., and other institutions of the ideological state apparatus tell us that we all have a right, an obligation, to narc on each other and get into other people's business.

As a relative 'newbie' here, what I want to know is: Who are the real Johnsons here at Literotica?

I don't want to know who the Shits are. You Shits keep that to yourselves.

But who are the Johnsons?

Thanks HM. I really think that you need to figure out for yourself who you want to talk to. Look at people's posts, what they post to and whom. There are people here who I truly like who you would consider a Shit. They're my friends, even though they might get embroiled in an argument on the board that I want no part of. The thing is, if it's brought to the board, the person who is bringing it here is making it everyone else's business. If you don't want your dirty laundry aired and for people to make judgements, then keep it to yourself.

There are also people here who are technically considered Johnsons, and who are liked by many here, but I run far away from their posts. Why? I don't care for them. Something about their posting style, or the way people respond to them, or even though they may not get into others' business, they cause so much shit on the boards that it's disgusting. I want no part of that.

It really depends on your own personal tastes in people: who you are drawn to, whether they get involved in discussions you personally wouldn't be in or not.

The diversity is what makes this board fun.
