She shouldn't have been outside, she really should get back. But this was a dare, and you did NOT back out of a dare. Serena moved through the woods that backed up her house, looking back to the window of her bedroom and saw the 3 heads of the girls that were still in the window watching her. As her parents were away from the country like they often were, she had invited them to her house. She didn't know why she had invited them over it wasn't like they really liked her. But she had enticed them with booze and pizza and they had agreed. Now here she was playing Truth or Dare and headed into the woods to get a pine cone.
As she moved along the flashlight swung back and forth in her hand, she looked about not really wanting to go back, but knowing she had to when she heard the snap behind her. Turning around she swallowed nervously and called out, " Hello? Is anyone there?" Just the wind greeted her and she shook it off," Just get the pine cone Serena, you know these woods like the back of your hand." She turned heading in the direction she would need to go, once more the snap made her turn about as she growled slightly," That's not funny Lindsey... I am getting the stupid thing, I said I would be right back." She turned around and still no one was there.
As she turned once more to head into the trees finding the one she needed, her feet got tangled in something. She stumbled and fell to one knee, before she could fall further she caught herself on a nearby tree. She definitely wasn't having fun anymore, hell she wasn't having any fun. Turning to look at what she tripped over, the light from her flashlight caressed fabric resting on the ground. Reaching down she sucked in her breath when her hand came into contact with the softest fabric she had ever felt. The softness was like silk, velvet and satin all rolled into one, the colors were muted reds, blues, and greens shot through with gold. Lifting it up the fabric began to unfold in to the most beautiful cloak she had ever seen. The hood was rimmed in gold filigree, and the ties had two crossed bones made from diamonds.
She looked up and shown the light around the clearing," Hello is anyone there... I found your cloak." No sounds came back to her and nothing moved. Continuing to search the area she turned to see a man standing in a fog, he seemed to be watching her. Fear shot up her spine as she gathered up the cloak to her chest she started to run back toward her home. Fear making her feet fly. At the back door to her home she turned looking back the way she had come, seeing nothing she stepped into the house and go and tell the girls what she had found.
The Shade of Midnight stood near the manicured lawn and his growl was low watching the human slip into the house with his cloak. Things were about to get very interesting for the girl, and very dangerous for him.
Once inside though, Serena stopped. No one had seen her come back into the house and she wanted to examine the cloak a bit more. She moved to the den and flipped on a light. The fabric was almost alive, swirling colors that seemed to actually move. Serena caressed the fabric and where she touched it made the colors dance. "Trick of the light Serena," she admonished herself and before she moved to a cabinet with a lock. Opening it up she folded the fabric once more and placed it on the highest shelf she could reach. With a soft sigh she closed the cabinet and locked it placing the key in her bra and she would get a chain for it later.
As she stepped out of the den, her eyes flashed to the pine cone and the fact that she had forgotten to get one, " Fuck." Looking back inside the den she almost squeaked in glee as she saw one resting beside the fireplace and she quickly grabbed it and left the room heading up to the squealing giggling mass of girls in her room. "Here you go, pine cone fore 3," she called out and they started exclaiming over the cut on her knee she hadn't even realized was there.
