The same sky falls on the just and the unjust

Lemme see if I understand this.

Two Harvard perfessers did the math and determined that sea level rise since 1900 is less than estimated but suggests Earth will be underwater by this weekend.

The perfessers concede most of Earth isn't checked for sea level changes, and where there are checks no one is collecting data for coastal sediment deposits as sand is moved about by currents and wind and rivers and dredging. Junk scientists assume coastal plains are static and constant.

A very short time ago in geological terms the UK was connected to mainland Europe by continuous land.

An ice sheet covered Northern Europe and Northern Britain, stopping the waters of what is now The Rhine from flowing North - because of the ice sheet, or South because of the land connecting England with France. A large lake formed which eventually broke through to cut the English Channel as its outlet.

But North of that there was still continuous land linking Britain to Europe until about 8000 BC.

Archaelogical evidence shows that men lived in Britain before that Ice Age, and recolonised afterwards. What is now the Dogger Bank in the North Sea was occupied land in prehistoric times.

10,000 years in geological terms is very recent history. After the English Channel had been formed, the sea level around Eastern England was many metres lower than it is now. Communities lived on Doggerland and what are now the Goodwin Sands.

What happens next is always being discussed. Are we at a mid point between Ice Ages? If we are the next one will LOWER sea levels as more water is taken up by new ice sheets. If we still have further warming before the next Ice Age starts, we will have HIGHER sea levels before the ice starts to form again.

All we have to do is wait a few thousand years to find out.
