So, I knew it was some kind of scam but I went ahead and sent a few poems anyway and was quite happy when they were accepted. I was quite happy when they asked if they could include them on a recording of spoken poems. I fully exspected the sales pitch of "buy the book your poem is in". Which, of course, I didn't do since heck, I have my poem. I also didn't buy a plaque with my poem on it, etc, so forth and so on.

So then they send me a notice that I've won a siliver cup for "artist of note" and want me to come down to the awards assembly to collect it. In case I've not mentioned it before, I'm poor. So no, I'm not going to fly down to their award thingie and pay for a room in the hotel I would have to stay in, buy tickets to the show etc so forth and so on. But you know what? They never sent me the cup, either. Or contacted me again except about another poem I had submitted at the same time...and with the same speil.

I know the thing is prob about the size of my thumb, but I would have had liked to have the cup anyway.

So :p to Poetry.com

So you're planning on posting an exact copy of this message in every single forum or what?

Though, you'll either be ignored or slaughtered in the GB. If it's the latter, it might be amusing if you can put up a good fight.

Hmmmmmmm

Damn shame, so many of these con merchants about, no matter what marvelous free contest or site you try to join, there's always a catch. A bit like the holidays we keep mysteriously winning without having entered the competition, of course you have to go 100's of miles to claim this week in outer Mongolia in December.

Got Me KM!

Actually, I posted on the GB, realized I should have put it on the Poem board, thought about it and realized the Writers board might be better. Went to delete the GB board and saw it'd been posted on already.

And I don't mind being ignored, or people getting miffed. I'm not very politically active on the boards, don't usually post anything negative and hardly ever take sides.

*shrugs*

I just felt down and put out and wanted to whine and inform folks at the same time. So I did. A lot.

Been there, done that, they tried to con me into taking a space shuttle to the moon to pick up my tee-shirt but I pleasantly declined.

Made me feel pretty spiffy for a little while, though. I was quite proud of the poems I put up there and so of course I believed those people when they told me the poems were good enough to be published and win money and stuff. I suppose I can still blame it on the naivete of youth...yeah, I haven't used that one in awhile.

I've posted them here also, and am so happy with the feedback I've gotten because I know it's sincere and not a gimmack to get some bucks out of me.
