The Royal Wedding

Personally I'm sick of the thing. It was a very good publicity stunt to try to repair some of ills of a most dysfunctional family who alas, for the time being, still provide the UK with an unelected and unaccountable head of state.

I was ill in bed yesterday, and even BBC Radio4, which is normally a relatively intelligent station, had little but the bloody wedding, with occasional references to Syria and Libya.

LOL, bah humbug. Actually F was complaining too until I pointed out he devotedly watches all these lovely fantasy TV shows based around historical Brit royalty and tales (and has read countless novels also based around such themes).:D The monarchy, like all of us, are mere human....overall, they have a lot more crap to deal with while biting their tongues than the rest of us, and unlike most of us, they get to work in a job as well as have to play puppet to the demands of their royal position and work in that capacity as well, which add up to more than your usual 40 hour week I daresay...then they get the bonus of being targets, and criticised for everything they do, wear, or say...and sometimes even what they are not responsible for. Far prefer them to reality celebs who do nothing worthwhile.:)

I wasn't able to watch the ceremony live but I recorded hours and hours on the DVR for watching last night. I thought everything about it was lovely!

Question for you Brits..what was the significance of the "L" on the front of the car Prince William drove? The BBC announcer mentioned it but offered no explanation.

LOL, I loved when the Queen returned to Buckingham Palace, and just like any proud grannie, had the wedding programme clutched in her hand with a smile from ear to ear.:cattail:

I heard it was attached by Harry, and though it usually means learner driver, it was suggested it was meant to represent Love.

Aye, it's a learner driver plate. You get them on hen/stag nights, it's a bit of a bawdy joke that they're learning the marital arts i guess...

Ahh, thanks for the explanation! :) That is cute.

What a fun time it must have been for y'all. I would have loved to be in London yesterday just to soak in the atmosphere. I told Daddy yesterday (he who hates to travel) that I was going to start planning a UK trip for next summer. LOL

Well next year is the Jubilee, so if you plan you could be there for that.:)

Because I work nights, I was able to see a great part of the whole ceremony as it happened, live. I know many of the people in America will tell you that we think the whole Royal thing is a bit much for our tastes. And there are times when I will agree. I don't think I could ever remember the proper way to greet the Queen. Oh wait...she must greet me first. And how am I to know she has done that, if I'm not allowed to look her in the eye? Is there someone who taps me on the shoulder to tell me she just spoke to me? It's all so confusing.

But it was clear to see the brotherly love between William and Harry. They both have a lot of their mother in them. And Harry seemed just as star struck about how wonderful Kate looked as did William. I won't even go into Kate's sister, Pippa. I'll just say I was in love at first sight. I don't care if she is at least 30 years younger. Someone else did mention that she and Harry would make a nice couple. Not that it would happen, of course.

I don't know what the little girls were called that were walking in with Pippa (were they also bridesmaids). If you didn't notice it, and happen to see it in a replay, when William and Kate were kissing on the balcony, look at the little girl in front (to Kate's right). http://www.lugaluda.com/wp-content/uploads/2011/04/Grace-Van-Cutsem.jpg. I guess I wasn't the only one who saw her. The poor girl looks totally upset because the crowd is so loud.

The difficult time William had putting the ring on her finger, the guy who was doing cartwheels down the red carpet, all of the fancy hats the ladies were wearing, and the whole ceremony of it all that it seems only the British can pull off with such class and grace.

Yes, I'm an American male and I guess I shouldn't even be interested with all of this, but I was. Pat yourselves on the back, Britain. When you do something big, you really shine.

I heard it was meant to mean learner driver, but he put it on to represent learner in marriage.

Re: Hi

Calli if you come to the UK there are quite a few UK lit people about.
Be sure to let us know when/where you will be here.
I met ADR couple of years ago it Vegas and London. A highlight in my life.

DVS I think the little girl was covering her ears because the Royal Air Force did a double fly past. It would have been incredibly loud.
First four planes were: hurricane, lancaster, spitfire mosquito.
Then there were four modern planes: two tornadoes and err umm two other types! lol

I admit I watched the whole wedding again today.

We avoided it - like Scotsman69 we were sick of the whole media hoop-la. We've seen all the best bits on the news now anyway

Sir thought the rugby league was more important anyway! ;) :D

in between

I didn't get up early to watch it, but i was interested in seeing her wedding dress. she was so pretty, and her sister was gorgeous. loved to see all the outrageous hats, and outfits, but other than the 15 minutes or so that I was glued to the tv, i'd had enough.

I'm watching a recording of the wedding now because my grandmother is, and I have to say, That's a pretty wedding dress.

Ah, being royal does not mean not having to tighten the finances. I was just reading Wills and Kate will reside with Harry whenever they are in London, simply because they don't have their own place as yet, nor money to provide one.

Plus, I am sure Harry doesn't just live in a one bed flat/studio like most guys in London of his age! So there is bound to be a spare room (or 3) for the couple!

I felt a bit like this too. Sure, I may be cynical at the best of times, but things about this did wind me up. Yes, the couple want to make it public and celebrate it with the nation, and yes it is a major news story when it comes to being reported on. But I can't help but feel that the tax money used to pay for some aspects could of been put to better use. Plus, no one needs 8 hour constant coverage of everything going on. The last thing it needs is interviewing people who have camped for weeks in london to see it, or interviews with Williams ex driver from when he was 6 or a posh z list celeb who went to school with a friend of a friend of a friend of a friend of harry or something daft like that :)

Although I got a bit wound up, I wasnt like THIS GUY!
