The Road Trip
<<CLOSED>>

IC:

Patrick and Sara were friends from when they were about 6 years old, being placed in the same class in first grade, and they became friends quite quickly. With each passing year the grew closer together, separating abit when they both went through puberty but getting close together when they both entered High School. It was their best chance to survive the scary High School, which turned out not scary after all.

They were now done High School and both going off to University, they were both going to the same place, it was the state university, so they both got cheaper tuition which was good, but it also meant that they were still able to hand out together whenever they wanted. Patrick however wanted to do something fun for this summer, and he asked Sara to go on a Road Trip with him.

Sara didn’t think she was going to get permission, her parents were very strict about everything it seemed. So it shocked her when they said yes, these were the types of people who still didn’t let her stay out past 11, and she would be dead if she ever brought a boy over that wasn’t Patrick or there to do school work, but they trusted him for some reason.

Patrick had just tossed the last bag into the car, and turned to smile at Sara. “So Sara ready to set to explore, I think our first stop should be Canada, and go through Canada, it would be more interesting then the States, my Parents have shown me enough tourist type stuff in the country to make me sick.” He said looking at her.

OOC:
Patrick
6’
190 lbs
Brown Hair
Hazel Eyes
Average Build
Not very outgoing, more of a loner, the geek/nerd of the place normally.

Sara Johnson looked up at Patrick and her eyes widened as they focused on something in the distance. "I was afraid of this," she murmured, gesturing in the general direction of her parents. "Don't look," she hissed as Patrick turned his head.

"Do you think they changed their minds?" he asked, waving and trying to smile.

"No. They're carrying stuff."

"Clean underwear?" Patrick smirked then grimaced as Sara punched him in the arm.

"I'll bet it's food." It was Sara's turn to smile, though she was afraid it looked more like rictus.

"Maybe it's just jammies," Patrick whispered, giggling.

"Knock it off, Patrick," she said pointing toward his front porch. "Looks like your parents are on their way over here, too. I told you we should have snuck off in the night."

"Sara!" her mother chirruped, holding up an insulated gallon jug at the same time as her dad held up a cooler.

"Kool-Aid?"

Sara nodded. "Let's hope it's not peanut butter and jelly, too."

It wasn't but there was probably enough food in there to feed an entire army. Still, it was pointless to protest and Patrick's father, seeing the dilemma freed both of the Johnson's of their burdens and placed them on the back seat of the car. "You two better get a move on if you're going to follow that itinerary you made."

Sara was still trying to extricate herself from a grip that would have done any wrestler proud, when Patrick jumped into the car and started the engine. "Dad's right, Sara. Let's get going," he called out, slamming his door for effect and, at this point, she didn't need to be told twice.

"Bye, mom. Bye, dad," she said, scurrying around to the passenger side. "Bye, Mr. and Mrs. Morris." Sliding into the car, Sara pressed down the lock keeping the smile on her face as she hissed, "It's okay. Run them over if you like, just let's get out of here."

They both waved again as Patrick backed down the drive, but Sara watched the rearview for the next forty five minutes. Just to be sure that her parents weren't following. "They made me promise to call every two hours," she said, finally. "I... erm... forgot my cel in my bedroom."

Patrick smiled at Sara. "Now what are they going to think of their perfect little princess when they try to call and they find the phone up in your bedroom. Naughty, naughty Sara." He said, he couldn't help but tease her after the scene they just went through. "Don't worry I forgot mine as well."

He was making good time towards the border, but then he looked back at the cooler. "Your parents just can't let go of you can they Sara. Your 18, yet they still treat you like your 10 at times. They don't want to let you go do they, don't want to let you live your life?" He said looking at her.

He was lucky, his parents while strict at times, relized he was 18, no longer their little child like he was for so many years. The Johnsons didn't seem to understand that Sara no longer was a little child either, and still treated her like she was 12. Patrick was able to go out, have fun with other people in their class, Sara she was at home most nights, except for if she was going out somewhere with Patrick. Maybe it was because they were neighbours, or friends forever, the Johnsons trusted their little girl with him more then anyone else.

"You don't mind looking in that cooler do you Sara, see what their is to drink." He said as they headed towards Canada, which was going to be the start of Sara's freedom, for the next while they were on the road, and then it was College. Sara no longer had to live at home.

They stopped for the night just this side of the border, having agreed that it would be nicer to officially start their vacation on the Canadian side. With sandwiches and a whole box of Raspberry Zingers still left in the cooler, Patrick and Sara decided to get a room at the Motel 6 and settle in with a movie and a couple of bags of chips they'd scored from the vending machine in the lobby.

"I still can't believe we're doing this," Sara said for the hundredth time as she riffled her fingers through her hair which was still wet from the shower; sharing a room where they could and a tent where they could camp out being another of their money-stretching schemes. As far as either of them were concerned, it was no different than sharing with a brother or sister.

Walking over to the bed, she sat down on the edge and tucked one leg up under herself after plumping a well-worn pillow behind her back. "Anything good on television?" she asked Patrick who was rifling through the contents of the cooler.

"I didn't look," he replied. "Channel changer is over there."

"Any celery sticks left?" Sara stood and grabbed the remote before settling back down.

Patrick set a Zip-Loc baggie of vegetables down between them. "We really are going to have fun, Sara," he assured her as she crunched.

"I know," Sara nodded. They had discussed this a thousand times over the past few months, but she wasn't so sure she really knew what having fun meant. "Do you think you'll meet someone?" she asked him at last. "I mean... you know... someone."

Patrick laughed. "I'm not going to dump you in the middle of nowhere, Sara, if that's what you're afraid of. Besides," he grinned. "What's to say that you won't be the one to meet... someone?"

Now there was a thought, Sara considered as her spirits plummeted. No one ever noticed her. "I doubt it, Patrick," she replied, solemnly - she'd never even been on a proper date. "Maybe I'll just watch to see what you do and take notes."

He just looked at Sara and shook his head. "Come on Sara, just look at yourself." He said as he stood up to get a better look at her. "Trust me you are beautiful." He said as he smiled at her. "I know why you didn't get a date in High School, and I'm sorry to say it, it was your parents, they would of never trusted anyone with their 'special little girl'." He said as he took a breath, sitting back down on the bed. "I know a few guys who wanted to ask you out Sara, people were just scared of what your parents would of done."

He said sitting back down on the bed. "Trust me Sara, you'll fine someone either on this Roadtrip, or when we get to School. You are free from the reputation your parents unfairly gave you, and you'll get dates easy, if you are just abit outgoing." He said before he laid down on the bed besides her. "Now, just abit of advice from me, which you don't need probably but I need to say it anyway. Don't go for just any guy, go for one that will treat you right." He pushed the thoughts back in his head about going out with her, their relationship was too far along.

He then sighed abit. "And Sara, trust me, you don't want to take advice from me on dating, besides taking you to prom, the only other date I had was that crappy night with Brenda I told you about, you remember that story from Grade 10 right, Sara." He said as he sat back up taking a bite of a celery stick, as they watched the movie that Sara had found. It was going to be a nice trip, he would have a hard time resisting all the urges for something more from his relationship with Sara though.
