The Ring Finger

I was talking to a girl today while i was out on my job, and of course I noticed she was friendly, good looking, attractive, etc. However, I noticed on her ring finger she had what appeared to be a leather wrap where a ring would be (like a small shoe lace wrapped around her finger).

Any ideas on the meaning? I've never seen that before!

And question, who looks for the ring on the finger anymore? When I see anyone anymore, i generally look at the hand before I wander back to the eyes. (or elsewhere )

Well it could be a promise ring. There are two kinds of those, one is from a fiance who couldn't afford an egagement ring so just gave her that to mark where he will put a ring once she says I do.

The other promise ring is a promise to not engage in sex until marriage, they wear a ring on their ring finger to mark them as being married to god I think.

Well there is one more but you don't see it very often and usually on young women. It's also called a promise ring but basically it's a pre engagement engagement ring, to show she is promised to someone already that she will engage at a later date, like when she's old enough. Not used very much anymore in the US.

I got one of those. In fact, I still wear it 24/7 (it's just been on my right ring finger since we got engaged). I the high quality little diamond set in white gold he bought me while we were in Spain. It reminds me of our joint journey and hopes every time I see it, and is more significant than the formal, far more expensive rings on my left hand in some ways.

TheOne, a ring on that finger almost always signifies a commitment to something. I think you should ask her about it if/when you see her again.

i wear a leather ring as a sign of family.
i know that may sound stupid, but its kind of a family tradition.
family is a huge thing to all of us.
My family is agnostic. And growing up, since we didnt necessarily believe in god - we were treated like outcasts by the majority of the locals, so we relied on eachother. when we each turned 16, my parents had leather rings made for each of us to symbolize that we were all connected and really were loved.

I remember when i was 7 or 8, my brothers and sisters and i were walking to school. And someone ran up with a rock and threw it at my eldest brother and screamed at us "YOUR GOING TO HELL"

I honestly had a great childhood as far as my family is concerned. Very very loving and was always and will always be reliable. so we all wear them to this day.


ABout this woman at your workplace, i honestly dont know. I would suggest asking.
I've had several people ask me about mine and it makes me proud that people notice and their curiousity arrises.

I know some people wear leather, wood or other organic material in shapes of rings to show their commitment to the environment.

I sometimes wear a copper ring on my ring finger, even though I'm not committed to anyone. It just feels more comfortable. I think the best way to find out for sure is to do what has been suggested: ask.

I know I wear a ring, not necessarily an organic or leather one, but a ring on my left hand as a "keep away ring". Usually I wear it out dancing since im in a relationship but sometimes when I'm not its just a UGH GTFO ME ring. I also wear a claddagh ring on my right hand, but no one really knows the significance of the ring.

Yeah I would ask her, but I probably won't run into this person for like another year (unless there happens to be some order that goes to her place) but I was curious if this was some cultural thing or something, nothing will ever come of this, not in my case at least..lol
