The Republican Base

I'd like to say a few words about the recent behavior of the McCain campaign.

I've noticed in the last few days a distinct negative downturn in the campaign speeches of John McCain and Sarah Palin. You've seen the newscasts--Sarah Palin stirring up the crowds with lies and xenophobia, smiling as people shout of Obama: "Terrorist!" and "Kill him!"

This... this right here is what makes me so fucking sick about Republicans. Talk all the horseshit you want about "extremists," this is the true face of the conservative movement in America.

You want to know the differences between my extremists and yours? Ours protest. They write letters. They disrupt public functions. We left that violent shit behind back in the '70s. Yours, however? They still haven't. They snipe abortion doctors. They blow up government buildings, while you sneer and cheer them on (Don't tell me you don't call McVeigh a hero). They shoot people for wearing Obama shirts. They go on LIVE TV and say that liberals should be killed.

See, liberal extremists? They're called PETA. Your extremists? They're called the base.

Oh, if anything happens to Obama? Dude? I'm getting me a baseball bat, and moving into the street. It's gonna be fucking ON.

Add to this the fact that Palin

has active ties with the most extreme right wing hate organizations in Alaska like their version of the John Birch Society and the America haters and terrorists of the Alaska Independent Party as an active supporter and she is discredited in the extreme.

McCain makes me ashamed that I was a Republican 30 years before I wised up!

Should have done it sooner!
:cattail:

Hmm..

"A federal judge in California recently ruled that William Jensen Cottrell, a graduate student in physics at the California Institute of Technology, should serve at least seven years in federal prison and pay more than $3.5 million in restitution for firebombing more than 100 sport utility vehicles at dealerships and homes near Los Angeles."

"Officials say this is part of a growing trend that in recent years has included more than 1,200 incidents of arson, bombings, theft, animal releases, vandalism, and office takeovers. Targets of what activists call "direct actions" have included laboratories, mink ranches, SUV dealerships, fast-food outlets, and new housing developments. Damages have totaled hundreds of millions of dollars."

"Five Kerry-Edwards campaign staffers, including the sons of two prominent Milwaukee Democrats, were charged Monday with the election day tire slashings of 25 get-out-the-vote vehicles rented by Republicans.

Milwaukee County District Attorney E. Michael McCann announced the felony charges – each of which could result in a 3 1/2-year prison sentence and a $10,000 fine - in a rare news conference."

Violence is notl limited to one point of view.

As we get closer to election day I expect the McCain - Palin campaign to get dirtier and dirtier. They cannot run on the Bush record. They cannot plausibly run against it. As the Bush economy keeps getting worse they will try to change the subject by charging that Barack Obama has grave character flaws.

Nothing will happen. Typical scare tactics.

I've seen their tactics. Threats, fear, and extortion.

The Secret Service will be having a field day.

I think the strongest words or phrases John McCain has used to describe Barrack Obama is "naive," "bad judgment," and "remarkable!" Sarah Palin referred to Obama's ideas of a sudden withdrawal from Iraq as "dangerous."

If you look back in U.S. history, you see that those words are extremely mild as compared with the early elections. Folks are just more politically correct these days. Politics isn't supposed to be pretty. By its nature, it tends toward the ugly. What is amusing, of course, is that EVERYONE HATES NEGATIVE ADS. Oh yeah? That's horse feathers. People love to say that but more than loving to say that, they love to watch negative ads. Check the YouTube viewership on positive ads versus negative ads.

The vandalism of the extreme left compared to death threats and murder? What's next? Comparing Halloween hijinks to war crimes?

Where are they? I've never met any of these people.
But it's good to know you're coming out against stereotyping.

Nah.

All they gotta do is point out how eager Obama is to follow the Bush doctrine over another cliff and have a war against Pakistan.

Yes, much better to stay in Iraq forever than to ever go after bin Laden.

Oh, and start a war with Iran, which McCain has promised his biggest supporters.

I obviously can't speak for anyone else, but the original post immediately brought to mind Palin's "palling around with terrorist" remarks.

That wasn't okay. September 11th was an awful, awful day for the United States. I remember watching the news in the days following and actually paying attention to the red orange amber alerts and truly fearing for the well-being of my loved ones, and I believe that concern and uncertainty was taken advantage of by the Bush administration in the months following, but regardless of that, for Palin to try and invoke that same fear, to re-open those wounds to plant seeds of mistrust is, in my opinion, absolutely vile.

I understand negative campaign ads. There's been dirty play on both sides. What she said is inexcusable. I feel truly hurt and betrayed by it. I understand they want to win, but I won't trust anyone who resorts to that. And regardless of what McCain does or doesn't say, this is the woman he chose to put on his ticket. This is not the GOP marketing campaign. This is not radical political bloggers. This is the vice presidential candidate. Not okay.

Yeah innocent left wing extremists , they burn down new car dealerships, newly built homes, they sabotage forest to kill or injure lumber company employees and vehicles, they bomb or burn animal research labs, they assault people with fur coats, they shoot Presidents (you don't find many right wingers on the Fair Play For Cuba Committee), they shoot up the House of Representatives, they bomb the Pentagon, the New York Police Department, etc...tell us all about it.

Don't forget Oklahoma City! Or Ruby Ridge! Or Waco! Or the anthrax attacks!

Oops...never mind.

I remember Ruby Ridge. The government ended up giving more than $1 million to the guy they wanted to arrest.

Dude, you are way, way off base. You're about to get your ass thrown out at second.
Nobody thinks that shit except a handful of nuts.
Does it occur to you that your behavior only serves to make your own side look just as bad? To rise above you have to act better than those around you. If you want to show that you're better than them you can't lower yourself to calling them all McVeigh lovers.

This is a pretty stupid post. What are you going to do, take a swing at every white guy wearing a blue suit, white shirt and red tie?

Somewhere in this country is a group of people who had friendly associations with the 19 terrorists who caused 9/11 - people who sold them boxcutters, Korans and plane tickets, taught them how to fly, sold them food and clothes, rented apartments to them, and helped them to fit in.

Those people who aided and abetted terrorists were and still are true Americans.

There are lots of terrorists who have been around long before 9-11.

Someone who bombed american buildings 30 years ago, IS a terrorist.

So if 30 years ago you were a drunken hothead who cheated on your wife and abandoned your children, what does that make YOU today?
