Angel breathed in the salty sea air letting it fill his lungs before he finally expelled it in a long satisfied sigh. He watched some of the more burly ship captains pass by and reached down grabbing his duffel bag and shrugging it over his shoulder. He was ready to strike out on his own and make a new life! Any thing being better than the pig farm his father and mother currently tended not that he could return their any ways after he left his father forbade him to ever return. His mother was equally as devastated shutting herself away on his final days. He simply could not be a pig farmer for the rest of his days not when his heart longed for so much more than that. Ever since he was a kid he wanted more out of life adventure and excitement. He was a reader as well and the simple books he bought with his salary only fueled his want for excitement and adventure.

On his small island however the only way you were going to get that was by joining the crew that passed through the harbor. Luckily his island was in the middle of a trade route which meant there was almost a constant steam of ships coming in and out. Ever since he was a teenager he would go up to the docks listen to the passing stories and longing to sail away on the ships leaving.

And now he would

He pushed his long blonde hair back and moved his burly forearms wrestling with his duffel bag as he tried to look as courageous as possible. They said a sailor could smell out a farmer a mile away and even though years of working with pigs had given him a muscular tan exterior he was utterly lost when it came to the art of sailing. Which meant h would have to rely on his outward appearance to land any sort of contract with the merchants.

He passed a few ships frowning as he noticed each one packed to the brim. Some even outward shook their head at him making it clear they were not looking for any one else. Angel kept going about to give up hope before he saw a rather large ship docked out at sea. He noticed a man with a shaved head and burly appearance barking orders and ran up to him putting on his most confident smile as his green eyes took in the man’s form.

“Morning sir” Angel said thrusting out his hand “Harkens Angel Colson looking for some work me ship left me to free up space and im looking for a new ship to sign on”

The man looked at him for a few minutes before laughing “Angel eh?” He said snorting and shaking his head “find another ship you don’t know what ye getting into”

“Please mate” Angel said his desperation causing his voice to rise a little higher “I cant stand another bloody second on this island even if its swabbing the deck I’ll take it you don’t even have to pay me”

The man looked at him for several long minutes before shaking his head “on your head then” he said nodding at the boat “get in we set off in several seconds”

Angel got on and in seconds they were off gliding out into the water and away from the island. Angel looked at his childhood home for several minutes before shaking his head and looking at the ship a smile breaking out as he thought of the adventure he was about to have.

Little did he know

He got on ignoring the strange looks and following the man who identified himself only as Mr. Spots onto the deck. He looked around trying to figure out what country the merchant ship belonged to finding none h turned opening his mouth to ask Mr. Spots the question.

“Welcome to the pirate’s life me boy” Mr. Spots said sending his question “Hope you like adventure because the red siren’s setting sail to make some coin”

Angel stopped realizing the mistake he made. He was on a pirate’s ship! Which meant he would be….. Pirating just like h read about. If his father ever found out he would tear his hide….. He stopped trying to figure out what to do to surprised to even move.

Captain Amelia Garrett, one of the SS Red Siren remained in her quarters while the Siren left port. Her crew was perfectly capable of setting sail without her watching the entire process. The destination was the St. Marcus islands. Little, at this time, was known of the islands except for tales of witchcraft and other nonsense that she didn't believe in other than there was a treasure hidden on one of the three islands and Captain Garrett intended to be the first pirate...well, first female pirate to collect the riches from St. Marcus.

After an hour into their journey, Amelia vacated her quarters and stepped onto the deck to find her crew hard at work. It took only a moment before the first officer took notice and called out, "Captain on deck!"

All work stopped, and every man stood in place and at attention... Amelia said nothing as she walked along the line and observed each and every face that was familiar to her...until she came across a man whom she had never seen before and so, she stopped and studied him before looking him in the eyes. Although her voice was loud in nature, which was suitable for command, she kept her tone quiet as she spoke to the stranger, "Who ye be? You are not a regular member of my crew...state your name and purpose here, sailor...I should like to know before I'm to throw you overboard for trespassing aboard the Siren."

Not one dared laughed because they knew that she was very capable of doing just that.

“I took him aboard Cap’n” Mr. Spots said coming up and nodding at the man “After we lost max we needed a knew deck hand to do some of the….. lesser desired work on the ship”

Angel kept his back straight and at attention watching as the beautiful woman grilled is hide. Who was this girl?! He had never heard talk of a female pirate before! Yet here she was almost impossibly beautiful and clearly the captain of the vessel. What had he gotten into? Had his burning desire to get out of the island put him in a more dangerous situation?

Wasn’t that the point

“If I may Captain” Angel said stepping forward “My name is Harkens Angel Coulson but I go by Angel I wanted to get off my small island and see the world I by no means meant to disrespect you but I am a good worker and don’t ask of much just don’t send me back there” He said scowling at the thought of the island.

“He’s been a farm hand all his life which means he should be used to lifting and doing menial work” Mr. Spots said “and we don’t have to pay him if we wish he said that was fine”
