This was the conclusionary part of two articles by Dr. Nemets.
During his recent visit to D.C., the author used the most cautious expressions while speaking about "similarities and correlation between the regime established in Russia in 1999-2002 and the one established in Germany in 1933-36"; the author expected a negative reaction.
However, it appeared that serious and honest foreign policy experts in Washington, D.C., and in American think tanks and universities perfectly understand and share the author's attitude. Several days later, while arranging, jointly with one of the leading Minnesota experts in Russian researches, the presentation of the book "Chinese-Russian alliance" at the University of Minnesota in January 2003, the author touched this subject again and, once again, heard "yes, we are dealing with the replica of the Nazi regime."
That is the major point: The Chinese-Russian alliance and anti-U.S. activity of the Putin regime are not "transitional" and this is not about "occasional mistakes of generally U.S.-friendly Russian leaders" (if the mainstream media are to be believed). This is about the essence of the present Moscow regime and its basic features. This regime is anti-democratic, anti-human and, eventually, anti-American.
Let's look again at the news string – this time provided by the New York-based Russian-language TV channel RTV (formerly NTV) on Dec. 18-20.
1) On Dec. 20, Russia celebrates the 74th anniversary of the "Day of Chekist," also known as the Day of Russian Special Services or "FSB/KGB day"; earlier it was celebrated by FSB executives and "secret informers" only. Putin declared this date a Russian national holiday; this perfectly reflects the dramatically expanded role of the FSB in Russian daily life and in the national government system.
2) In many Russian peripheral towns, particularly in Ust-Kut town in the Irkutsk region of Eastern Siberia, no heat is available despite temperatures as low as 40 degrees below zero. People are freezing to death in their apartments and nobody takes measures.
3) A 75 percent stock package of Russian-Belarus state-owned Slavneft Oil Corp. was purchased by Sibneft Corp., headed by Kremlin crony Roman Abramovich, for $1.86 billion. Initially, the Russian government expected to get at least $3 billion for this comparatively mighty oil enterprise. However, all other possible contenders have been effectively prevented from participating in the stock-purchasing auction. That's why the results are so bleak.
The refuted participants included PetroChina (China National Petroleum Corp., or CNPC, controlling the oil and petrochemical industry in Northeast, Northern and Northwest China), interested in access, via Slavneft, to the huge hydrocarbon deposits of the Kransoyarsk region of Eastern Siberia. As a compensation, CNPC was given some preferences in the Russian Far East. (end of messages)
That's the present Russia, ruled by oligarchs and the FSB, providing a "democratic" façade with marionettes in the Duma, ignoring the vital interests of 90 percent of its people and supplying dangerous weapons to America-hostile forces around the globe.
Do we have a new Hitler? A new Axis? I think the threat to world peace lies not within the U.S. Borders, Europe, or the Middle East. I think it's the Pacific Rim...
