wart removal

Put a piece of duct tape on it. Yep, that silvery tape that you can use to mend anything for a quick fix.

Change it every day ... and in a few, it'll zap it away.

make stockings last longer

Spray hairspray on them while wearing them, and pinch and stretch the nylons as the hair spray drys. Increases their shelf life.

Also, when a run does occur, put a little clear nail polish around the edges of the hole and it wont spread.

Christmas How To

I was concerned that my children were spending too much time equating Christmas with gifts and glitz. So, here are some things we do to keep love, family and some spirituality involved in our Christmas celebrations.

1. Two Saturdays before Christmas, the children and I spend the afternoon making gifts for all of our family members and loved ones. We started this tradition when they were three and five, so coming up with simple crafts that were something people would want to keep and display was a bit of a challenge. But we have managed.

2. Saturday before Christmas, we distribute those gifts at our extended family Christmas party. I loved it last year when my children were more excited about sharing their hand made gifts than they were to recieve their gifts.

3. For Christians: Christmas morning, we have a birthday cake for the Baby Jesus. Generally, it is banana nut bread or something, but we sing Happy Birthday to Jesus.

4. Each year we adopt a family. This task belongs to us and my maternal family. We all work in human services, so we identify a family in need who chooses not to access the Salvation Army Angel Trees or Food Pantry and purchase food for dinner as well as little gifts for all family members. The family we adopt, never knows who has done this for him and until now, none of my family shares this secret. Charity is best given when it is given in secret and it shows humility to not boast. Oops....

Does anyone else have any Christmas How Tos to share?

You'll feel it relax. Keep making circles.

Awesome ideas! Giving has always been a huge part of my family's traditions too, whether it's serving dinner to the less fortunate, adopting children or families, or taking gifts and school supplies to children in another country.

Here's one...How to get a christmas tree...
In many states, for a small fee ($15 in WA), you can go into certain areas of state or national forests and select and cut your own tree. The areas are specially selected (many of them are fire-prone) so there's no over harvesting, and it's a lot of fun to go up into the mountains and find a special tree. When I was little, we re-planted the tree in our yard or another tree to replace it, so the yard was filled with old christmas trees.

My husband and I have also started a tradition of going somewhere together instead of buying eachother gifts. While I was growing up, many Christmases were spent traveling as a family in lieu of gifts.

oh I so like this idea. One year when my sons were young, I took them to an early Christmas Eve church service by the minister that married me (he was a friend). To my surprise there was this huge slab of a birthday cake to celebrate Jesus' birthday. I thought it was a fabulous idea.

Flip it over so it's lying on its back on your hand. The hand on the belly is to hold it down while it tries to wriggle free.

Once it stops wriggling, make circles on its belly with your hand. Keep constant contact, and just pat round and round and round. Keep going for a few minutes.

You'll feel it relax. Keep making circles.

After a while, you can put it down, and it will be all dazed. It will usually like to just still.

(I used to work for a magician, and I had to hypnotise the bunnies before the shows.)

If you move the top hand down 15 cm (6 inches)
this also works for a man

Prevent nickel allergy rash

For those that are allergic or sensitive to nikel, but want to wear cheaper jewellery or watches sometimes (i.e. jewellery and watches that are not 100% silver or gold), coat the back of the jewellery or metal parts of the watches with clear nail polish.

Vinegar: we have a beautiful rad tailed boa- and every 3-4 days I clean his water bowm which is crusty (OK stop) with hard water stains. Soak the water bowl in vinegar for 1 hour & all the hardwater stains will be gone gone gone! also works for any hard water stains bc vinegar is extremely acidic.

Vinegar

Hand-held shower massagers get clogged up with hard water deposits and fail to work correctly after a while, especially here in the West, USA.
Remove the whole thing, fill up a bowl with vinegar, soak the head and the upper part, which had a valve in it, in the vinegar, submerged for a couple of hours. You can save the vinegar and reuse it, or run it through your coffee pot.

Speaking of coffee, I take my used coffee grounds and mound them around the base of my rose bushes. It makes a natural bug repellant, I'm told.

And more hydrogenperoxide ideas would be appreciated. I saw a booklet advertised for the many uses of it, but don't want to spend the money to buy it. I used it to gargle with for the first time, a few weeks ago, when I was getting a sore throat. It relieved it, and I didn't come down with the inevitable "Cold".
I have used it on a Q-Tip to clean my son's ears.

I use peroxide for a bunch of things. You can make a paste of it and laundry detergent to gently remove stains (color test first, but I've even used it for grass stains on jeans). I also use it for carpet stains. A paste of baking soda and peroxide works great for cleaning stove tops and kitchen counters, as well as an occasional toothpaste.
