Anyone read this book?

have it before me, is it worth it?

I read it. It's exteremely well written, endlessly fascinating, (I loved the long passage about how the poor looked for coins in the muck of the sewers, it's like mining in quicksand, scary as hell), extremely well researched...

But, I have to tell you, on page one the author should have hung a sign that says "Abandon Hope all Ye Who Enter Here" because it's one chapter of misery after another, in the best Dickensian tradition.
