I have to agree, a very entertaining movie. But then any movie that has Maureen O'Hara is a great movie. Hell I could watch a two hour epic of just her standing in front of the camera. Strong, beautiful and a fantastic actress, she had it all.

I read the short story long before I ever saw the movie and I must say as much as I enjoyed the movie, the story was better. It was darker, with less humor, but had a flavor I couldn't get out of my mind, even after all these years.

But that's the way of it. The images we manufacture from our imaginations are much more compelling then those supplied by others. There are exceptions. I can think of one here. :)

For those who are interested, here's a link to a pdf of the story.

It's absolutely one of my favorite movies. I actually got the movie from a fellow-Litster when I first joined Lit. He said that the part play by Maureen O'Hara was very much my temperament. (Mostly true)

I made my husband watch it and he now considers it a favorite too. :)
