In reading the Red Rising series and having watched Infinity War…. I’ve been thinking of some queries…

Is it morally acceptable to enslave or “snap” some the population for the greater good of the species?

I don't think it's morally acceptable. You're still causing a mass genocide of people. It may be for the greater good, but there's still

But if the species in general is on a trajectory to extinction … and this will stop that? Does it change things?

That's tough. I still think it's bad (but that's just me). As humans, we try our best to stop animals that are about to go extinct...why don't we just let them die out? (I don't know if that helps my point at all lol).

I feel like this kind of turns into the train track problem, but on a massively bigger scale

Please provide which group gets to decide what is for the greater good? Who gets to choose who?
If you are worried about extinction, don't, when the sun explodes no one will survive anyway.

Just a sissy opinion.

I hate the train track question …. It leads into AI for me… self driving cars. Is it acceptable to give AI the power to make the ethical choice of killing 1 or 5

Well extinction is an inevitability unless we are able to figure out space travel…

Which poses another question …. If we are leaving the planet because we can’t inhabit earth anymore… who gets to leave and who gets to stay and who decides?

But the sun exploding is not something we control.

Sadly, the answer is the wealthy at this point. It just depends on how cultivated the next place is for a lot of humans (and animals since I'd assume we'd have to try to bring some for food), and if we're advanced far enough that multiple space shuttles are made and how easy it is to bring them back to earth for travel some more

I'm not so sure a lot of people in the US weren't all that worried about covid because they foolishly believed it would wipe out only the weak and certain demographics only to find out that it was wiping out their own ilk. Careful what you wish for.

Yeah it’s so true.

Of course! What kind of mad scientist would you be if

Wish I could say it would be a fair system to decide. But I could so imagine something like "Snowpiercer" happening with space travel to

Wasnt a similar thing tried in Germany in the 30s and 40s?
Creating a master race.

But the snap… if the disappearance of 50% of the population was completely random… and it will ensure the survival of the species for centuries to come… is it worth it?
