I am looking for a book that deals with the psychological issues of bdsm issues, and particularly dominance and submission as a lifestyle.

I am not looking for a "How To" book, or erotica, but a book that goes into depth of the relationships between doms and subs....

Does such a book exist? What are some of the better things people have read in this area. Are there any therapists on the board who deal with these issues in counseling?

All ideas are welcome.

It might have gotten lost in the shuffle, but this was the entire purpose behind the "2004 Dom/me Thought of the Day" calendar. A collection of 365 thoughts from dozens of dominants sharing their various insights and perspectives in snippet format.

Buying a book will only give you lots of words from a single voice -- which might or might not be terribly relevant to you or compatible with your existing mindset. I have no idea what you want out of BDSM, so there isn't a specific book I can recommend that will necessarily educate or entertain you.

Some time ago, someone had recommended two books to me. One was called "The Loving Dominant," and the other had something to do with thorns, but damned if I can recall the whole title right now.

** Edited: I had to delete the last portain of this post because I had confused Jon Jacobs for poor John Warren. Apologies to both the Jo(h)ns!

"thorns"

Screw the Roses, Send Me the Thorns, the Romance and Sexual Sorcery of Sadomasochism; Miller/Devon - this is a good one, informative and entertaining

Pain & Passion, a Psychoanalyst Explores the World of S&M; Stoller - okay but a bit tedious

and this one is excellent: Different Loving, The World of Sexual Dominance and Submission; Brame/Brame/Jacobs

Thanks! It was on the tip of my tongue.

The Loving Dominant is authored by John Warren, it's a pretty good book and does actually address psychological play a bit. He's not Jon Jacobs.

Indeed. Was just double checking on that after re-reading Philly's suggestions. I had confused "Loving Dominant" with "Different Loving : A Complete Exploration of the World of Sexual Dominance and Submission," (which was co-authored by Jon Jacobs.)

Apologies, for the mislead. Was hoping I would be able to correct before anyone saw.
