Gotta put this out there . 63 yr old navy vet here who sees America’s major problem! It’s people who insist there Democrats or Republicans? They have no idea how to compromise. No idea how to agree on what they can agree . In my 63. Years only twice were things good for the middle class. When Reagan and tip O’Neil got together and when Clinton and Gingrich got together that’s it TWICE! No politician has the balls to compromise. Why? Cause they know there side will only vote there side! This country is in deep shit

I think two things being removed has led to a large part of the issue:
1. Meaningful filibusters - needing to make an effort to fight against legislation. Just saying the word isn't enough....someone needs to be on the floor the entire filibuster. Suffer some to show your fight
2. Earmarks - Congressman used to be able to bargain support with bridges and small pet projects. It cost us a bit of money, but led to meaningful bipartisanship.
