So I was going to Wendy's to get 2 99cent Jr. Bacon cheeseburgers and I played with the radio. I came onto this station where these two hicks were talking about "the left". I stayed around.

That show is comedy gold.

"Those world protests against the war on Iraq were planned just two days after 9/11. The protestors are Marxists who hate freedom."

They then played the song that's been "boycotted", despite the fact that it's never been released. It made use of the most soothing and likeable instrument ever invented: The slide guitar. It basically says that the reason for the war on Iraq is because some people died on 9/11.

I loled. Even for a country song it was bad.

According to my roommate who listens to enough far right talk shows to have heard this info that song was written to support the war in Afghanistan but was never released because it was too controversial or something.

I think more likely it was not released because the protests against the Afghan war were not that heated. Now it is being released to support the war in Iraq because the protests are much more vocal then the Afghan protests.

It pretty obvious it was written in support for the Afghan war because of the language in it. Besides the instrumentals which are great like most slide guitars it is pretty crappy song though.

The lyrics, just to be helpful.

Darryl Worley | Have You Forgotten?

I hear people saying we don't need this war
I say there's some things worth fighting for
What about our freedom and this piece of ground?
We didn't get to keep 'em by backing down
They say we don't realize the mess we're getting in
Before you start preaching
Let me ask you this my friend

CHORUS 1
Have you forgotten how it felt that day
To see your homeland under fire
And her people blown away?
Have you forgotten when those towers fell?
We had neighbors still inside
Going through a living hell
And you say we shouldn't worry 'bout Bin Laden
Have you forgotten?

They took all the footage off my T.V.
Said it's too disturbing for you and me
It'll just breed anger that's what the experts say
If it was up to me I'd show it every day
Some say this country's just out looking for a fight
After 9/11 man I'd have to say that's right

CHORUS 1
Have you forgotten how it felt that day
To see your homeland under fire
And her people blown away?
Have you forgotten when those towers fell?
We had neighbors still inside
Going through a living hell
And you say we shouldn't worry 'bout Bin Laden
Have you forgotten?

I've been there with the soldiers
Who've gone away to war
And you can bet they remember
Just what they're fighting for

CHORUS 2
Have you forgotten all the people killed?
Some went down like heroes in that Pennsylvania field
Have you forgotten about our Pentagon?
All the loved ones that we lost
And those left to carry on
Don't you tell me not to worry about Bin Laden
Have you forgotten?

Have you forgotten?
Have you forgotten?

I heard an interview with Darryl Worley (the writer/singer) just recently where he - point blank - said the song was about the current world situation, not the war on Afghanistan.

Wow. He needs to read the lyrics to his song again and then GB2SlideGuitar.

Then he is a total idiot or a liar. Everything I have heard points to the song being written more then a year ago.

Trying to tie Bin Laden to Saddam is pretty pathetic.

It pisses me off every time I hear it.

I really think you're my long-lost Texan sister or something.

I wish this board had Sarcasm tags.

south park did an awsome paradie of that song and the war on iraq

the kids were building a ladder to heaven to see kenny again.

the writer of that song stars singing.

where were you when they build the latter to heaven..

goes on and on then ends by saying 9/11 5 times haha.

the the US wanted to bomb heaven cause Sadam was building a cemical weapons plant in heaven. :D

then he sang another version

where were you when they desided to war with heaven. :D

first of all let me say that i really don't like the song. it strikes me as self-serving and trite. the rhymes are sophomoric. that being said, woorley did write the song nearly a year ago. he was in afganistan entertaining the troops at the time and after talking to a lot of them he was told repeatedly that they felt like they had been abandoned and forgotten by the u.s. he wrote the song to support them.

the sad thing is that the song will probably hit the top of the charts soon.
