No offense intended here. Why, when a woman posts a personals ad, do so many men respond to the thread with "PM sent"? It's obviously unnecessary; she'll see the message in her inbox. It always feels overeager to me, but maybe that's unfair. Is it a way of declaring the intentions of a serious suitor? A way of establishing a place in line? An assertive bull moose call? A friendly, enthusiastic gesture?

I’ve often wondered the same thing. If anything, it bumps the thread and makes it more visible, which usually isn’t the goal for most men on here. Shoot your shot via PM and move on…

My favorite is when guys reply to a post that is months - or years - old. Please don’t make it so obvious that you’re just playing the numbers game.

Yeah, I think the general reason for the "Sent You A PM" response is to break-through the imagined (or real) logjam of other PM's and draw a little more attention to their outreach.

I think 99% of the time, when someone logs in, they're probably just going to check their private messages first. If so, they're probably going to see the PM before the post anyway

I did the opposite once. I had responded in thread (I was new to Lit) with a voice sample because she was asking for voice (I still don't understand why people looking for voice don't at least post a sample of what's on offer, but that's another story). I didn't hear back. I sent a note Saying I guess one of her provisos was a deal breaker, but that she had superior language skills for both grammar and clarity, and I hoped she found someone awesome (this was rare enough I wanted her to know). She then noticed my listing in the thread and apologized becasue I had gone to the trouple to make a sample for her. Much to my shock she contacted me back and there was a brief but incandescent relationship.

But I don't think there is that much thought that goes into the "sent you a pm" post. I suspect they are just impatient.

As a quiet reader of most boards I do notice that some men write 'PM sent' often and to many. That can look quite desperate. But I guess life is a numbers game and one is bound to work at sometime.

Most men are desperte/thirsty. Not just the sexless ones either. Even guys swimming in pussy expecially seem to need more. Doesnt mean anything except youre used to dick being thrown at you so it has no value.

guys not getting sex expect not to get sex. The ones you call desperate are the ones doing the most fucking. You would be the same way if you could sleep with the men you actually wanted instead of just the ones that approach you.
