The Poets and the Survivor Literotica Contest
"Uh? What do poets and the Survivor Literotica Contest have in common?" some of you might ask. "And what the hell is the Survivor Literotica Contest?" the rest may be wondering.
Let me start with the latter. The short way of putting it is by saying that the Survivor Contest is a game where you get points for each new story or poem you write, submit and have accepted at Literotica between January 2nd, 2005 and January 1st, 2006.
To many of us poets, it's nothing but a nuisance, having the new poetry list flooded with 30 or 40 (many times substandard) poems by the same author in one day. But the reality is that this year's edition of Survivor can be very different.
First, as has been announced here a few weeks ago, our very own Jim (jthserra) won the 2004 Contest, and demonstrated that it is indeed possible for a poet to compete and maintain the very high quality he got us used to in his poetry.
Second, and for the first time, the Survivor Literotica Contest is going to be administered and moderated in 2005 by two poets, Jim and myself.
Third, and this is when you should really be paying attention, because this year the prizes will be the greatest ever and will extend at least to the top 15 contestants.
"So? What's in it for us?"
Well, many of you already posted enough poems during these first 3 weeks of the year to jump to the top 5 automatically the minute you sign up!
Even if you write only poems and don't venture into story-land ever, at a rate of one poem a week, you can still get up to 68 points by the end of the year, which can in average extend to about 85-90 points with the weekly immunity draw. With those 90 points, you would have ended up in a very respectable 10th place, last year, still way within the top 15 and the prizes! Add to it a couple of stories or articles, and you can do even better.
Seriously, now:
More important than all that, I think it can be something fun just to participate in, to show Laurel and Manu that we, the poets, are proud to be a part of the site. And maybe we can show the rest of the contestants that it's OK to write good poetry even in a contest that is mostly about quantity.
So, if any of you poets wants to join in, with no competitive pressure, feel free to PM me or Jim, or just check the Survivor rules and registration here.
