I'm sure most of you people have heard about the court ruling about the Pledge. I want to know what you think about it. Was it just? Is there something you would change about it or just leave it as it is?

Personally, I agree with the court in that it is unconstitutional. However, I don't agree with banning it completely. I think that it should go back to the way it originally was pre-1954. But that's just my own opinion.

I voted to spell the word "allegiance" incorrectly for all times to confuse future generations...

Lots of discussion, but this is the first poll I've seen.

one nation,"under the Constitution", indivisible,

I know some of you people have SOMETHING to say about this whole thing. Don't be shy, I won't bite... (hard....but you have to ask nicely first...)

70% of lit rejects God. Why take this poll?
I don't reject God, but I reject the pledge for a number of reasons:

1) Separation of church and state. Saying the pledge of allegiance in school is no different than saying a non-demoninational prayer in school - even worse. If you think that this doesn't put pressure on kids then you have never tried to remain sitting during the pledge as I have.

2) The pledge is to a flag - although the flag is supposedly a symbol, I do not worship or pledge allegiance to inaminate objects.

3) It is indoctrination. The fact that most kids and some adults get half the words wrong goes to show that it is mindlessly repeated, yet has an impact on their mentatlity all the same. I would rather have our schools spend that time properly teaching kids the correct facts about our country (like the fact that we aren't a democracy), than having them repeat the pledge like a bunch of good little automotons.

I would rather have citizens who truly understand what our country is about, the ideals of liberty, equality and justice, than indoctrinated "patriots" who spout such lines as "America, love it or leave it" (I heard that on a board just the other day and I was dismayed that some people are still so stupid and ignorant as to repeat it).

BTW, if you haven't guessed by now, I am the one and so far only one to vote to remove it completely.
