With a sigh Trevor Scott dropped the box onto his desk. The box was filled with miscellaneous odds and ends, and signaled that Trevor and his Mom Diane were officially moved in. He ran his hand through his uncombed dark brown hair and turned to get a feel for his new room. It was smaller than his old room but there was no avoiding that. He grabbed a set of folded sheets off the end of his bed and began to make the bed.

As he tucked in the bottom sheet he thought about the changes in his life. Trevor was a good enough student living a steady but unremarkable life in Malibu with his parents. He was a good enough student to get into Pepperdine University, which was a good school, but not Ivy League. He had been set to start college in the fall, but two weeks before graduation his father passed away. His father had been a lawyer, a well paid lawyer at that, able to pay for their home in Malibu and send him to the expensive school. When he died it left his mother to try and support them both in a costly home on the beach.

Diane worked as a legal secretary and made decent money but not enough to keep a home in Malibu nor send Trevor to college. The family had a savings sure, but with the medical bills and funeral cost Trevor and his Mom had no choice but to move. Why Diane chose Northridge California was beyond him. Diane grew up in the area and thought it would make a good place to return too, rent was cheaper and it was close to Pierce Community College for Trevor.

Trevor thought going to a community college would be a waste of all the effort he put forth in High School but his mother couldn’t afford to send him to school even with the reduced cost of the suburban home. He would need a summer job to pay for school and he wouldn’t be able to pay for anything over the cost of a community school.

Diane had made some calls for Trevor and arranged a job at a Kiosk selling sunglasses. Not exactly the greatest job on Earth but it beat flipping burgers at McDonald’s or someplace. At least he could work at the local mall, officially named The Place in order to make the mall seem more trendy or upper class. The name was a failure but still it stuck.

Trevor let tried not to think about anything as he finished unpacking his final few boxes and got ready for bed. He was holding a picture of the last family trip they had taken to the Grand Canyon. It had been two years ago before his Dad starting getting sent away a lot on business. His name was Michael Scott the third, a name he hadn’t passed down to Trevor thankfully believing that the generation of namesakes didn’t need a fourth go around.

There was a knock on his bedroom door and he glanced up to see his mother leaning against the doorway. He gave her a small smile and set the picture back on his desk. Diane came over to him and put her arm around his shoulders her gaze on the picture he had set on the desk.

“Grand Canyon?” She asked softly.

Trevor nodded, “Yeah, good trip.” His voice was empty.

Diane rubbed his shoulders gently. “You doing alright Honey?”

Trevor took a deep breath. “Yeah, I think I’ll be alright. I just need to adjust you know? Once I start work I guess things will be ok.”

She let him go and fished out an envelope from her pocket. “This is from Armand, he’s the guy who owns the Kiosk. His assistant came by and dropped it
off.”

Trevor opened the envelope and pulled out a yellow piece of legal pad paper and a small padlock key. He read over the note quickly, “It’s the key for the Kiosk and instruction for the register.” He explained to his Mom.

Trevor frowned at the envelope after his mom said her goodnights and left him alone. He took his time putting the Kiosk key on his key ring, somehow feeling locked into yet another boring unprogressive chapter in his life. He flopped back onto his bed and stared at the ceiling. After graduation he always thought things would be better. The degree in business seemed even further away than the Wall Street job he pictured himself holding after school. He groaned and rolled onto his side and sighed, this could be a good thing he thought to himself. He almost laughed at the thought, what could possibly be good, fun, or remotely interesting about a sunglass booth?

The next morning the alarm blared to life with the music of a country music station. Trevor hated country music so it was the best way to get him out of bed in the morning. Never in a million years could he sleep through an alarm of Garth Brookes or even worse Dolly Pardon. His hand lashed out and whacked the switch on the clock to shut the alarm off. The bed felt suddenly more comfortable than it ever had felt before when Trevor thought of the job that awaited him in just a couple of hours.

He groaned and kicked the covers off. His morning routine was simple and quick, but this morning he took his time in the shower, letting the hot water burn out all the weariness of the morning from his bones. Maybe selling glasses wouldn’t be so bad, if nothing else it would allow Trevor to catch up on his reading and music studies in the free time.

After brushing his teeth and slicking his hair back with a small amount of styling paste, Trevor got dressed in a pair of black jeans and put on a blue-grey button up shirt. He trotted down stairs where Diane was having a cup of coffee at the kitchen stairs.

She smiled when Trevor walked into the kitchen and grabbed the box of Poptarts from the cabinet. “Did you sleep alright?”

Trevor tore open a package and took a bite of the strawberry pastry. “I slept alright I guess, new place and everything,” he told her through a mouthful of poptart.

Diane groaned and waved at him. “Close your mouth Trevor.”

He shrugged and stuffed the rest of the poptart into his mouth. After a few minutes of chewing he grabbed a glass of milk and chugged it down. “I need to go to the bank before work, I don’t have any lunch money.”

“Alright, just make sure you watch what you spend. You need the money for school.” She warned, her tone motherly.

Trevor nodded, “Believe me the last thing I want to do is spend more time than absolutely necessary working at a sunglass booth in ‘The Place’” He said making finger quotes at the name of the mall.

Diane rolled her eyes and began to rinse out her empty mug in the sink. “Look I know you think it’s a bad job, but you never know what can happen. You might find yourself making friends which is what you need now I think.” She gestured toward him with the empty mug before turning to put it away. “Listen, just give a chance if it is so horrible you can’t stand it, then it’s not a big deal to find something else. I figured you might like it best working at the mall.”

Trevor shrugged, “Yeah typical teenager right? Love the mall.”

Diane gave him a look, “Don’t be an ass, get going.”

Trevor said goodbye and walked out the door. Unlike most soon to be college bound young people, Trevor didn’t have a car nor a bike which meant he had to walk to the mall. While it was only a two mile walk, as the summer went on it would become a miserable experience when the temperatures got into triple digits. For this first Monday the walk wouldn’t be so though, but it was warm enough to hint at the summer heats to come.

There was a bank in the parking lot of The Place, and Trevor hit up the ATM to grab forty bucks before heading into the mall. He pulled out the yellow note he had gotten from last night and read directions to his cart. The sunglass booth was set on the outskirts of the food court just opposite the Cinnabon, a sweet shop that specialized in cinnamon rolls and coffee. Trevor double checked the paper before setting to remove the giant tarp that covered the cart. Already he could smell the hot cinnamon rolls coming from the store nearby and he shrugged, there were worst smells to be stuck with. Trevor would have to be careful not to eat too many rolls.

He found the padlock the locked the tarp tightly around the base of the cart and opened the lock with the key on his ring. Trevor was unaware of the person at the cart next to his watching him as he pulled the tarp carefully off the cart inevitably knocking a couple of the sunglass displays over. He balled up the tarp and tucked it away underneath the kiosk.

“So you’re the new guy eh?” A voice said behind him.

Trevor turned from fixing a display and saw a tall young guy standing behind him with his arms crossed. The guy had short jet black hair combed over two one side. He had a large nose and a permanent five o’clock shadow. Not a horrible looking guy, but definitely not a ladies man either. He wore a T-shirt that had a modern rock band logo on the front and a pair of brown khakis. One his left breast was a nametag that identified him as Zack.

Trevor nodded and glanced back at the sunglass kiosk. “Yeah, I guess.”

Zack nodded and then shook his head. “You poor lost soul.” He shrugged and stuck out his hand. “Welcome forsaken one to the poorly named Place.”

Trevor gave him a friendly but unconvincing smile and shook his hand. “I’m Trevor, Trevor Scott.”

“Zack Green.” He told him, then gestured to the mall around them. “Well, let me show you around before Place opens up. You’ll want to know what to avoid around here.”

Trevor glanced back at the kiosk then followed Zack who was stopped at the kiosk next to his. It was still covered with a tarp and the clerk who would be manning the kiosk was nowhere to be found yet.

“This is the Proactive booth, you know that stupid acne medicine. The guy who works here is Steve Miller, he’s an alright guy but he’ll talk your ear off if you let him. When he’s not working it’s his sister Lacy who, while hot, is one of those chicks that knows how gorgeous she is and probably wont give you the time of day.” The way Zack spoke about the places and people of The Place made it obvious how much he despised his job.

Trevor listened carefully trying to be open about information he’d probably learn one way or another. It was nice to get the inside sort from a guy who was clearly too smart for a mall job and, like Trevor, was working here because of an unfortunate situation.

“So you going to school around here?” Zack asked as he moved on form the Proactive kiosk toward the next kiosk in the short line of kiosk’s near the food court.

Trevor nodded, “Uh, yeah. Or well, I will be. I was supposed to go to Pepperdine actually, but uh my father passed away and my mom can’t really afford it.”

“So where are you going for a back-up.”

Trevor sighed. “Pierce.”

“The Community College?”

“Yeah, it’s the only place I can afford with a job like this.”

Zack stopped in front of the next booth and shook his head. “That blows. Anyway this abomination of a booth is the cheesy and crappy world of remote controlled toy helicopters. If you get bored feel free to come by and fly a helicopter around. I find it therapeutic to try and hit little kids or chicks in skimpy clothing, sounds cruel I know but don’t knock it till you’ve tried it.”

Trevor chuckled and pictured little kids running by screaming as a flying toy helicopter chased them around. “I’ll keep that in mind.”

Zack turned away from the cart. “Alright next we have the food court. Let me explain the rules of the food court as it pertains to mall employees.” They walked to the center of the food court near the set of escalators and Zack gestured around to each of the dozen or so food spots. The food court was split into two sides, east and west with the kiosk row starting on the south side and the mall’s exit to the north. On both east and west sides of the court where six individual shops. The west side started with the Cinnabon, that sat closest to Trevor’s kiosk, then followed up with a Quiznos, Hotdog on a Stick, Koo-Koo-Roo, Chin-Chang and a Red Robin which was the only real sit down restaurant in the mall. The east side of the food court had a generic set of stores starting with a Mongolian BBQ, Tommy burgers, Donatelo’s pizzeria, Taco Ding, Surf’s Up smoothies, and finally a Hawaiian BBQ place called Aloha Aloha.

Zack pointed to the Cinnabon and said. “With the exception of Cinnabon you never ever, ever, eat at any of the places in the food court. Every one of these bastards will fuck with your food, at least until you make some friends. Usually you’ll be able to eat for free once people get to know you.”

Trevor glanced at the Cinnabon and could see a girl working in the back, but couldn’t make out any features. “What makes the Cinnabon safe?”

Zack pointed to the girl working in the back. “Krista Meyer, sometimes I think she’s the only sane one in this place. Anyway she won’t spit in you cinnamon rolls or your coffee.”

“That’s good to know I guess.” Trevor admitted.

Zack walked toward the Cinnabon, “Let’s go say hi.”

“Uh,” Trevor started to protest but Zack was a head of him and Trevor had to trot to catch up.

Krista Meyer was at the prep station, was blocked off from the public by a glass shield so that people could watch the employee’s making the rolls. The glass went up only five feet so Zack leaned over the glass and smiled.

“Hey Krista.”

Krista looked up as Trevor walked up to the window. Trevor faltered a step as he caught sight of Krista Meyer for the first time. She wore almost no make-up that he could tell but despite that she was incredibly beautiful. Her skin was as soft as her features, her gentle brown eyes seemed down-to-earth and smart. She was slim, but her figure was hard to make out in the baggy Cinnabon uniform though Trevor had no doubt that she was built wonderfully. Her light brown hair was stuffed carelessly into the blue and purple hat that matched the uniform she had to wear, but even that seemed perfect.

Trevor noticed at this about her in about a second. He shook off his initial shock and put on the most casual smile he could.

Krista gave Zack a gentle smile, “Hey Zack, what’s up?” Her gaze went from Zack to Trevor.

Zack turned toward Trevor and said. “Krista, Trevor; Trevor, Krista. Trevor is the new sunglass booth guy.”

Trevor smiled and raised his hand in a casual wave. “Nice to meet you.”

Krista nodded and said, “Hey.”

Behind her the oven buzzed with a loud annoying sound and Krista rolled her eyes excusing herself with a weak smile to turn and yank the tray of rolls out of the oven. She quickly spread a layer of frosting over the batch and put them onto the display tray.

She cut one of the rolls in half and handed a half in each hand over the window. “You guys want a sample?” She offered with a wink.

Zack and Trevor took the offered halves of roll and a napkin from the counter. “Thanks Krista.” Zack said, stuffing the roll into his mouth.

Trevor held up the roll in thanks. “Nice meeting you.”

Krista gave him a half smile. “Yeah you too.”

As they walked out of the store Zack wiped his hand off on the napkin. “I gotta count my register.” He glanced at his watch. “In ten minutes this place will start to flood with sheep and I wouldn’t want to miss a chance to blow someone’s wig off.”

Trevor laughed. “Alright, nice meeting you.”

He set what remained of his cinnamon roll next to the register and pulled out the yellow paper and began to count the register. Once he was sure the register was set he finished off his roll and sat on a stool left by the kiosk. He glanced around and started to see people filter into the mall. With a sigh he sat back and mentally tried to prepare himself for the day.

He saw a young guy walk up to the kiosk next to his and begin to take off the tarp. The guy noticed Trevor sitting there and gave him a nod. After yanking off the tarp the guy balled it up and stuffed it under the kiosk like Trevor had.

“So you’re the new guy huh? I’m Steve.” He said holding out his hand.

Trevor nodded and shook his hand. “Trevor.”

Steve hit a button on a TV that sat on the end of the kiosk display, the monitor flared to life with a never-ending Proactive infomercial. Trevor must have had a look on his face cause Steve grinned.

“I fucking know right?” Steve said. “Hey don’t worry man, I keep this shit on mute. I would kill myself if I had to listen to it all day.” He laughed and leaned against the railing behind the cart. “So you get a feel for the place yet?” He asked.

Trevor nodded and pointed toward Zack’s booth. Zack was putting batteries in a remote control and banging his hand on the bottom of the controller as if trying to get weak batteries to work. “Zack gave me the quick tour earlier.” He told Steve, not sharing any of the extra information he had been given.

“Yeah? Cool, he told you about not eating at the food court right?”

Trevor nodded, “Make friends first right?”

“You got it. Don’t worry though, most of the people are cool. Jeff at Taco Ding is pretty cool so you can probably get something from him without having to worry about some weird shit in your food.” Steve explained.

“Thanks for clarifying.”

Steve was silent for a moment but rocked back and forth against the railing as if trying to think of the next conversation. Now there were quite a few people walking through the mall, and though none stopped by their carts yet Trevor knew it was only a matter of time.

“So you’re new in town too? Or just to the Place?” Steve asked.

Trevor turned to him, and took note of Steve. He didn’t look like the kind of person Trevor would normally make friends with. He had bleached blonde hair that was spiked up with styling gel. While Steve now wore a white shirt with the proactive logo and black slacks, Trevor knew his normal attire probably was closer to torn jeans and skater shirts.

“I’m new sort of. I mean I lived in Malibu before so not too far away.” Trevor explained.

“Malibu, why’d you move to the shitburbs?”

Trevor sighed and shook his head. “It wasn’t my idea, but my Dad died. So my mom and I had to move out to a place easier to afford.”

Steve nodded, “That sucks man.” He smacked Trevor’s shoulder and grinned. “Hey don’t let it bother you man, stick with me and you’ll be making friends in no time. This may be a boring town, but there are plenty fine looking girls around here.” He paused, “You may have trouble dealing with Eddie Manheim though that stupid son of a bitch.”

Trevor shook his head. “Who’s that?”

Steve groaned and looked around, he stepped out in front of his cart and looked down toward the East end of the mall. Not finding what he was looking for he looked toward the other side and nodded. “That’s Eddie.” He told Trevor pointing.

Trevor hopped off the stool and looked down toward where Steve was pointing. Down the way Trevor saw a pair of security guards walking down toward the food court slowly. One guard, which Trevor assumed was Eddie, had a smug look of satisfaction on his face, his thumb flicking the baton at his belt. The guy had perfectly slicked back jet black hair and looked like he spent more time in front of the mirror looking at himself than actually getting ready.

“Isn’t that the biggest sack of walking shit you’ve ever seen?” Steve said with a groan. “Look take my advice and do anything you can to stay off that jackasses radar.’

Trevor watched Eddie walk closer, noting the way the guy watched every girl that walked by like a rapist in hiding. “Right.” He nodded and went back to sit on his stool.

Steve turned and noticed a couple of ladies browsing his cart and groaned out a low “fuck me” under his breath. Trevor watched Steve put on a fake smile and begin to help the woman at the cart. Steve may hate his job, but he was a master of his craft, if one could have a craft in bullshit. The woman asked questions and Steve went through a routine about the miracles of Proactive and gave the woman a small sample. He smiled and cracked gentle jokes to gain her trust. Trevor was amazing just how much stuff the woman bought from him. Steve gave her a smile and wave as she walked away.

When the woman was gone he rolled his eyes flipped the woman off and slumped onto his stool. He glanced over at Trevor and gave him a nod.

Trevor sighed and turned back toward his cart. No shoppers faltered walking by and no one appeared to be interested in sunglasses. He took a deep breath and resolved himself to face a long boring summer.

Krista Meyer didn't mind working at the mall so much, it did at least pay her bills and help her get through college. Sure she could have gotten something better elsewhere but then not many of the top companies she wanted to work for was hiring straight out of high school. In fact she would be lucky after getting her Associates degree that she would get in with them. But she got to use her skills that she was learning to help make Cinnabon one of the best places to eat at while visiting the mall. In fact, her boss was talking promotion because she kept giving him some great ideas on what to do to make the store more profitable.

Krista had woke early in hopes of catching the boss at the store, but sadly he wasn't there, so she went about her daily routine of getting the store ready for customers. It was quite in the mall this early and that was why she liked working mornings. She was working on getting a batch of buns ready for the oven when she heard a familiar voice. Glancing up she saw that Zack was not alone, in fact this was a guy she hadn't seen before. Her brown eyes glanced quickly over him seeing how unsure he was about being there. She smiled softly to Zack with a quick greeting before he introduced her to the new guy standing beside him. She smiled to Trevor and wondered what evil deed he must have done to land himself at the mall for the summer. Most of the guys there hated their jobs and they told her all about it time and again. Krista didn't mind listening, but after awhile you kinda guessed that the new guy would be just the same.

As the bell sounded on the oven she turned and pulled out the latest batch, quickly putting on the finishing touches to them she pulled one from the pan and cut it in half handing it to Zack and Trevor with a wink. She wanted to make Trevor feel at home as much as possible since he certainly seemed like he wasn't too happy being there. She wondered for a brief moment if he would be different from the rest of the guys that worked at the mall, as he did seem a bit more on the quiet side than most of them. Krista watched them turned to leave and she couldn't help but notice how nicely he fit into his pants.

Blushing slightly she turned back to her pan and started to pull off the rest of the buns before grabbing the pan she had just filled and sticking it into the oven. Krista glanced out her windows and doors hoping for a glance at Trevor again. He was a good looking guy and certainly didn't seem the type to be hanging out here. She was curious what his story was.

Krista gave a friendly smile to the guards that passed by the shop, even though one of them she couldn't stand, Eddie Manheim. He was, for lack of a better term, a complete dick. She caught how he looked at women and even how he had looked at her a time or two, it gave her the creeps. Shuttering she turned back and started on the next batch she needed to get in the oven.

Krista heard people milling around and knew just by that sound that the mall was officially open. She knew it would be like every other day in her life, but at least now she had something to look forward to, Trevor. She smiled to herself as customers started to come in.

Before long it was time for some lunch and Lucy, her co-worker that came in shortly after the mall opened was glad to take over. Krista felt like she had pulled a full shift already and only part of her day was over with. She pulled the apron she had worn from around her waist and slipped her hat from her hair, letting her light brown hair fall around her shoulders. Folding them up she stuffed them into her little cubbie and headed out of the door. She glanced around the mall before heading toward the kiosks. She gave a small wave to Steve as he smoothed over two women who had stopped at his before her eyes landed on Trevor. Smiling warmly she paused by his, "I was headed to lunch, have time to go or would you like me to pick you up something? I know how bad they can be to a newcomer."

Krista was interested in finding out what got Trevor stuck at the mall, but she was thankful for it at the same time. She always did like meeting new people, but something about Trevor touched her and she wasn't sure what it was just yet. She got a creepy feeling and glanced up from Trevor to see Eddie smiling at her. Krista gave him a short smile and turned her attention back to Trevor, hoping Eddie would catch the hint. "So what do you say?"

The day didn't drag the way Trevor quite thought it would. Though boredom was certainly a factor, he was able to amuse himself by watching the people walk back and forth. He smirked a few times as people would be chased by toy helicopters as they walked by the toy booth. While it was amusing the first day, he knew that he was going to need a start bring shit to read.

Being next to the food court was going to be annoying as well, he could smell the food constantly. Thankfully Krista had given him a half of a cinnabun and that helpped curb his appetite. He watched people getting food with worry though. Steve's warning was still strong in his mind, Trevor was new and would end up with nasty surprises in his food. He wasn't looking forward to that.

Another thing he noticed watching the people pass back and forth was the mall cops. They walked like they were gods amoungst shoppers. Especially the guy Steve had called Eddie. They guy looked like a pedophile stalker, with a big head. Trevor knew he was a dangerous jackass right away. Crossing Eddie would cause more problems than it would ever help solve.

As the day wore on Trevor started to get hungry. His stomach making the painful growls of hunger. But like a savior of the day Krista came walking up with a smile, which kind of surprised him. Trevor never thought there was anything wrong with him, but he was never very popular with girls in his school. Maybe he focused on school work too much.

Still Krista was a very good looking girl and it was odd for her to approach him. Trevor found himself looking her up and down quickly, trying to get a feel for what she might look like in normal clothes and not smelling like cinnamon and sugar.

She smiled and offered him lunch. Which was great timing and horrible timing. Great because he was hungry, horrible because Eddie chose to follow her.

"Hey Krista, you wanna grab a bite with me?" He said with a kind of sneer to his tone of voice. He was smiling like his offer was doing her a huge favor. Trevor was betting the guy never got any actually pussy.

She ignored him blatantly and asked Trevor again.

Trevor tried to avoid looking at Eddie, and he nodded, "I'd love to grab a bite. But I'm not allowed to leave the booth for more than a bathroom break. Would you mind snagging me something?" He asked, digging into his pocket to pull out ten bucks. "If you want we can eat it here together." He counter offered. "If you could ask the cooks where ever you go to hold the bodily fluids that would be great." He told her with a wink.

Krista took the money from Trevor and smiled a bit brighter, "That sounds like a good plan, I will be right back." She felt Eddie's eyes on her but she hoped that he would take the hint that she was going to have nothing to do with him.

Moving into the busy food court she glanced around and figured out what she wanted to have when she heard the voice again that made her skin crawl. She tried again to ignore him when his hand wrapped around her arm. Krista glanced up to Eddie, "Hey Eddie, sorry it is noisy in here. Having a good day today?"

She could tell by the look on his face he didn't believe her but she really didn't care what he thought. When he mentioned lunch again she smiled, "Sorry I have plans, but thanks for the offer. I think Holly has been hoping you would ask her out." Sadly that was the case as Holly was short in the brain department. For some reason Holly has had the hots for Eddie, Krista didn't know why and she wasn't about to ask, afraid of the answer. "I better go before I spend my whole lunch talking to you Eddie, was good to see you again."

Krista pulled away and hoped he would leave her be. Just saying what she did made her stomach churn. She didn't like being nice to him but she was.

Turning her attention back to the food decisions, she finally decided on a hamburger, never could go wrong with them. She ordered for herself and for Trevor, knowing they wouldn't mess with his stuff since they thought it was for her and a friend of hers. Grabbing the bags and drinks she headed back to Trevor, smiling brightly as she approached.

"Hamburgers it is. I didn't know what you liked on it so I got everything, I hope you don't mind," Krista took a seat as she handed him his bag and drink. "So tell me, what brings you to this place Trevor? You haven't looked too happy about being here, which is understandable."

Trevor watched Krista go for a moment, tilting his head so he could watch her ass twitch. When he looked up Eddie had moved closer and was sneering at him. Trevor raised an eyebrow and gestured to his stand, "Sunglasses?"

"You think you're hot shit don't you?" Eddie demanded.

"No not really. Although my shit comes out at least 98.8 degrees."

"Listen here you fuckstick, Krista is mine. Stay the fuck away from her." He said, pulling out a baton.

"She came to man. It's my first day she's probably just being nice." Trevor explained. "Besides she didn't really seem to like you, are you sure you don't have some kind of imaginary girlfriend?"

"Yeah keep thinking it's funny." Eddie said and walked off.

Trevor watched him go and he just shook his head. Eddie was going to be trouble if Krista kept talking to him. He glanced up and watched her walk toward him, her uniform unable to do her body justice. If she was as hot as he thought she was, then he could put up with Eddie.

Krista handed him a bag with a burger and fries in it, then set a coke beside him. "I love burgers." He told her with a smile.

He shrugged at her question about how he ended up working at The Place. He told her everything that had happened, about his father and how his mother couldn't hold up that kind of income. How everything he had planned fell around him like a house of cards. It was a conversation that made his gut tighten and he didn't like talking about it.

"What about you. No offense but you are way too hot to be a cinnabon girl. Hooters maybe, but not cinnamon rolls." He told her smiling.

Listening to Trevor, Krista felt sorrow for him. She knew how tough it was losing a parent, in fact her mother died when she was young and her father was working two jobs just to make ends meet. Part of the reason why she didn't mind the job she had much less helping out as best as she could.

His question brought heat to her cheeks and she glanced down at the coke in her hand. Taking a sip she glanced back up to him in hopes that she redness was out of her cheeks, "Thanks. I would much rather work here than Hooters." She moved her drink over to the cart and set it down, pulling a fry from her bag and taking a bite from it. "My mom died when I was 10 and my dad does what he can. I enjoy working here and my boss even lets me use what I learn in college to help the store out. He was talking promotion but I haven't seen him since."

"I'm sorry about your dad, but look at it this way, things happen for a reason and while this isn't the best place in the world there is a reason why you are here. At least I can say I got to meet you because I was here." Krista smiled at him softly before starting in on her burger.

They talked while they ate and she laughed a time or two at him being silly. She felt completely at ease with Trevor which was odd cause there was always some flag waving in her head about a guy. With him it was all quiet on that front and that alone was relaxing. "You know there are some places around that aren't too bad. Yeah they aren't like Malibu but if you have the right people with you they can be a lot of fun. If you even want a list, just look for me, I'm sure I can put something together for you."

Krista wanted to stay and chat even longer but she knew her lunch break was almost up, much less that she had seen Eddie milling about and she really didn't want to get Trevor into that kind of situation with that guy. She glanced around hoping not to see him but there he was leaning against a column staring at them. She was happy that he was to Trevor's back, she really didn't want Trevor thinking there was something there, cause there wasn't. "Well I better get back to work. Sorry it wasn't a longer break."

It was the best lunch Trevor had. After they got past the sad part about their families the conversation became a bit more normal. Trevor seemed to really connect with Krista, which is something he never had done before with a girl. Sure he had spoken to girls before but never had he felt so much like himself. It was a welcome change.

Aadly it was cut short as Krista had to go back to work. He smiled as she left taking a more open look of her ass as she walked away. Goddamn she was fine.

It was then that Eddie walked by, giving him a not to friendly look. Trevor flipped him off behind his back.

* * * *

Eddie didnt like this new guy. Krista was far too interested in him. Eddie needed to put a stop to it and quickly before she started to like him even more. Eddie lay in wait beside the cinnabun when Krista got off. As he suspected she seemed to make a b-line straight toward the new sunglass dickhead.

"I dont know what that new guy is talking about krista." Eddie said, stopping Krista in her tracks. "You dont have chunky thighs at all. And i think your perfume is wonderful, he said you smelt like astroglide." Eddie said with a sad face.

"I wouldnt waste your time with that punk Krista. Why dont you and i go get a drink instead. I know a guy at Woodranch bbq and we can get VIP treatment."

Krista got back to work and the day actually looked a bit brighter. Maybe it was because of Trevor or maybe just having someone new to talk to was refreshing, but she couldn't stop thinking about him much less how at ease she felt around him.

When the time came to get off she quickly ditched her apron and hat again and started out of the door. What she ran into though made her stomach churn. Hearing what Eddie had to say she gave him a friendly smile, "Look Eddie, I'm not interested. I highly doubt Trevor said that to you, he seems to be more......classy than that."

Krista started to step past him, "Why don't you go find Holly or some other girl that is interested, I'm not and I won't ever be interested in going out with you. You just aren't my type, sorry."

She didn't know what she was going to do with Eddie. She hated hurting people but damn the man didn't take a hint no matter how many times she told him no. Krista wanted to stop by and see how Trevor's day was before she headed home, but Eddie just had to ruin even that small thing for him. When was he going to smarten up and realize she wasn't interested in him.

Eddie sneered at her, "I dont know why you have to be such a bitch about it. Would it kill you to get a free dinner with me? Are you too good for your own good or what?" He spat. "Fuck you then go see your little pretty boy, Im sure youll be good with him since youve known him all of like an hour."

"But we will see what your think of him once i get through with him. You will be sorry for rejecting me bitch." He turned anx stormed off. Pissed beyond belief that she would have the gall to dare say no to him. At first he thought she was just playing hard to get. Toying with him a little or something, but now it was clear that Eddie needed to get rid of the new guy before Krista would come crawling to him.

* * *

Trevor waa getting ready to count down the drawer when he saw Krista coming up to him. She looked pissed and it made Trevor worried. Had he done something to piss her off without knowing it.

"Hey are you alright?" He asked her.

Krista is shocked by how shitty Eddie was taking the news. Not only was he being a dick about it but insulting her was not a way to win her heart. But Krista knew it wasn't her heart he was after but what was between her legs. She wasn't stupid, she saw how Eddie treated all the girls he went out with. While he was a good looking guy, that didn't hide the asshole under it all.

When he moved away from her she headed straight to Trevor. She was pissed and yet she was concerned for him cause Eddie made it clear he was blaming Trevor for her denying him. When she saw him she saw the concern on his face even before he asked if she was alright.

Stopping close to him she lowered her voice, "Eddie has it out for you now. I'm sorry, it is all my fault. I made it clear to him there was no chance and he took it as it was because of you. I'm really sorry Trevor. If staying away from you helps I will, I just didn't want something like this to happen." Looking to him she wondered if it was such a great idea to have lunch with him, obviously now that Eddie was hot on him it wasn't.

Krista felt bad, here Trevor was feeling like life had dumped on him because of his situation and now she goes and makes it even worse for him. "Look I will just find him, go out with him, maybe then he will leave you alone. I didn't mean to bring trouble your way Trevor, I really didn't. I'm sorry." She turned intending on finding Eddie and taking his offer just to keep him from doing anything to Trevor. Trevor didn't need this, not after what he had already been through.

Trevor was stunned at the news. She fired it at him without letting it sink in or even letting him reply either. She clearly felt like shit that she had caused Eddie to lock his sights on Trevor but that didnt mean anything. Eddie would have found any other reason to harass him when it came down to it. Eddie was scum and you could only avoid scum for so long.

Krista turned to go find Eddie in and effort to clear Trevor from the target range. Trevor jumped in front of her. "Hey wait a second dont you do that. I can deal with Eddie. He is a stupid bully, i know how to deal with stupid bullies. Besides what ia he gonna do, make me work a different shitty job, oh i am sooooo scared."

He smiled and put a hand on her shoulder, "Tell you what. If you want to make it up to me that badly, how about we go out tonight. I am new in town and maybe you can zhow me around to some neat places." He said smiling.

Krista almost jumped back and Trevor jumped in front of her. She didn't really expect him to stop her. She even found herself calming down and even laughing at his mention of another shitty job. Something about this guy really did put her at ease and made life seem simple.

His hand on her shoulder had her smiling and his recommendation about how to make it up to him sounded better than the alternative. "Are you sure Trevor?" She smiled even brighter when he was letting her off the hook so easily since she would much rather go out with him than Eddie any day of the week. "Okay, but I need to get a shower and change before I take you anywhere."

Turning back to his booth she found a left over napkin and a pen. Krista jotted down her address and phone number before turning back to him, "Here is my address and phone number. Let me go home and say call me in an hour. We can decide where to go from there, deal?" Krista was more than excited to be going out with him tonight. "We can figure out what crazy things this little place has that you can't find in Malibu." Laughing softly she couldn't help but give him a hug, "Thank you," she whispered to him. She meant every word of it too, she was really grateful to him to put up with Eddie's shit that was bound to come around to him for all of this.

Krista stepped back from Trevor, "Talk to you in a little while," with that she moved past him in hopes of getting out of the mall and home with no incidents.

Trevor smiled and watched her leave, playing with the napkin in his hand that held the key to time with Krista. It would take him more than an hour himself to close up shop and get home. He didn't want to go out with her wearing his casual work clothes either, plus they smelt like the mall by the time he got into his car. There was more to the smell though, underneath the mall scent was the slight hint of Krista's perfume. From that brief little hug she gave him earlier her scent caught on with him. He smiled.

After he got home, showered and changed, he plugged her address into his laptop to get directions. He didn't want to call her and ask her how to get there, figuring it would be better to just surprise her. It was after eight p.m. by the time he pulled up to her house, his phone in his hand and her number already dialed.

"Hey Krista, its Trevor." He said cheerfully into the phone when she answered. "You all set to go, because I'm just pulling up to your place right now." He told her.

He parked and got out of the car to wait for her. He leaned against the trunk of the car and watched her house for her to appear. When she came out to him his jaw almost dropped to the floor. Krista was stunning. No wonder Eddie was obsessed with her. She was incredibly hot, not just the casual hotness of teen girls normally around the mall, Krista had a look that could make millions if she didn't mind wear a lot of tiny bikini's.

"Wow, you are so much prettier than I am." He told her in disbelief almost.

Krista rushed home and headed straight up to her room. Trying to decide what to wear she finally opted for a jean skirt, black flats and a low cut blue top. She went to the bathroom and quickly took a shower, washing off the smell of work and enjoying the warmth for a moment longer. Stepping from the shower she dried off and started to get dressed.

Once she had herself dressed and her hair blow dried, Krista made sure she looked okay, good enough for a date anyway. Her phone rang about that time and she answered it to hear Trevor on the other end. She was surprised he was outside waiting on her.

She bounded down the steps and left her father a note as he was still at work. She knew eventually if things got more serious between her and Trevor, her father was going to want to meet him. She almost dreaded that because he was so hard on most of her dates.

Krista stepped out of her house to find Trevor leaning against his car. She smiled brightly to him as she moved closer to him. He looked good in something other than work clothes. His comment had her laughing, "I don't know about that. I'm sure some would say you look way better than me." She couldn't help herself she moved to him and kissed him on the cheek, touching his other one with her hand, "Thank you again Trevor."

She moved from him to the car, "I hadn't really had time to think of where to go. What are you in the mood for and maybe I can think of something."

Trevor blushed as she came up to him and kissed his cheek. He hadn't expected that, it made him feel all tingly all over. To be with a beautiful woman just out and about like this was unheard of for him. HE sighed and moved around to his side of the car to climb in. The passenger door didn't open from the outside and he reached over to pop the door open for her.

"Sorry handle sucks." He told her. "I don't really care where we go actually. What is there to do in town....besides the mall of course." He winked.

He pulled away from the house and drove down toward downtown. "Why don't we just grab some dinner and maybe a drink." He suggested.

As he drove he kept stealing glances over at her. Yeah he could definately deal with Eddie's stupid ass for her. He wondered why she hadn't just mentioned Eddie's harassment to a higher authority. Eddie was a sore subject to her and he wasn't about to ruin her mood with talk of that asshole. Trevor did make a plan to find a way to get Eddie off both their backs.

"Do you like Chinese food? I haven't a good Low mein in forever." HE told her with a smirk.

As Trevor walked around the car Krista couldn't help but notice how well he really looked in normal clothes. She was curious why he didn't have a girlfriend, but after his life story she understood the reasoning behind it. Trevor had been through a lot in a short amount of time. She could feel his pain at the loss of a parent but having your whole life ripped from you...that she couldn't even begin to imagine.

As the door swung open she smiled and got in, "Guess that means once I'm in there is no letting me go huh?" She tried to make light of his situation, but to her it was nothing new. She was happy for the clunker she had since it was all her and her father could afford. School would certainly be harsh too, but she hoped working all the long hours at the store would help with that.

As they headed down the road he asked about things to do before offering a suggestion, "Well we don't have much, but as I said it can be fun with the right people. We have miniature golf, which may not seem like a huge deal but I beat I could beat your socks off. There is the movie theater, plenty of places to eat, though some aren't the greatest and a few little oddities that I think are nice...you may not though since you're a guy," Krista smirked playfully at him.

"Chinese sounds great and just your luck, the best place isn't at the mall." Laughing she gave him directions to a small but quaint little Chinese restaurant. It wasn't nothing special, but he place prided themselves on their food and the best part was, she knew of a secret little get away on a roof top close by where they could look out over the city.

As they got there and ordered, she told them it would be to go, laughing softly at the look on Trevor's face, "I know just the place to eat this. Don't worry...trust me," using the one word every girl was taught not to believe in a guy. Krista made sure to get them drinks and collected what they would need to eat, both forks and chopsticks. She was more than excited to get to their destination, she guessed it was because she had never taken anyone there before.

One the food was ready and paid for she grabbed Trevor's hand and headed out of the door. His touch was very nice and she could see herself getting used to this. As Krista made her way to the spot she smiled to Trevor, "What I'm about to show you is a secret. Not many here know about this place, which makes it special." She released his hand as she reached the steps that seem to be hidden from normal view. She started to climb them without a single thought as to Trevor being behind her. Krista found herself even more excited as she reached the top of the building. She stopped at the small landing at the top and glanced down at him, "You are going to love this, I promise!"

Trevor was more than willing to let himself be carried along by Krista. She seemed to have a good idea of where they were going and what to do. So he let her pull him to the rooftop while he clung to the bag of food so as not to drop it. She smiled and turned to him, gesturing out onto the roof like it was a big tada.

Trevor walked out and looked out over the city. The chinese place was on a bit of a hilltop and it allowed a perfect veiw of downtown. The glowing lights of the highrise buildings stood tall like distant Christmas trees. It was beautiful, he didnt realize she was standing right next to him enjoying the veiw as well until she bumped against him.

"This is great." He said softly.

She smiled at him and they moved away from the edge so they could sit and eat. Trevor tried his best to use chopsticks but he could never really get it. Finally he said fuck it and snatched up his fork. "Let me show you how a genuine white boy eats chinese." He told her and dug into the rice with the fork. The rice promptly fell from the fork without making it to his mouth. "Shit. Okay nevermind."

It was a nice night and Trevor really was happy just relaxing with someone. He was glad he made a friend. Then he dropped a piece of beef on his blue shirt and it left a stain. He frowned and looked at Krista. "Stop making me nervous." He teased.

Krista couldn't help but feel Trevor beside her as he looked out over downtown. She was hoping he would like it and she turned waiting for his response to it. She was glad when she saw that he did in fact like it.

They moved up onto the rooftop to eat and while she wasn't a perfect chopstick person, she could at least eat with them if she needed to. She watched Trevor for a bit and even laughed at his comments. He was so much fun to be around, it had been a long time since she was this relaxed with a guy.

When he dropped some food on his shirt she couldn't help but laugh even more, "Oh so I am making YOU nervous. Sure sure. Here let me help." She reached in with her chopsticks, "See it is easy, you keep the bottom one still and the top one you move." She picked up a piece of beef and moved it to his mouth, "Open wide." She fed him the beef and couldn't help the happiness that seem to vibrate from her.

Krista glanced out over the lights of the city before turning back to Trevor, "I haven't had this much fun in a long time, thanks." She smiles warmly to him as she moved to gather rice on the chopsticks. She looked at him for a moment before putting the portion in her mouth. After swallowing she moved closer to him and pulled out some for him, "Here since you don't seem like you are having much luck with even a fork tonight." Krista actually was enjoying feeding him food and even laughed when he got sauce on the side of his mouth. She dunked the chopsticks into the box and moved to wipe the sauce from his mouth.

Trevor watched her carefully as she fed him. It was an erotic experience having a girl feed him like a little sexy servant. He tried his best to hide his shivers as she the meat into his mouth. Was she seducing him? She had brought him to a secluded spot and was feeding him like a woman who desired him. It felt strange...good but strange.

He was begining to like Krista a lot more than that primal desire to fuck her. He could picture himself with her, as a girlfriend. He never had a girlfriend before. He had had sex with girls before but never for anything more than a fling after a party of some kind. He always felt like he wasnt ready for a relationship, but this time with Krista was begining to change his mind on that account.

He smiled when she smeared the sauce on his chin. "A girl has never fed me like that before. Funny i always figured the only way that was going to happen was when i was old and senile. But you, somehow you do it and it is just.....nice. Like there is a connection between us or something you know?"

Krista wiped the sauce from Trevor and found her napkin. She blushed slightly at his words, "Yeah I know what you mean. I just figured I would help you since you were having such a hard time. If you like I can let you get back to feeding yourself." Krista smiled at him. While she liked feeding him she knew eventually he would probably want to start helping himself again.

She dug down into her box and pulled up a piece of chicken, dipping it in the sauce she popped it into her mouth. Her eyes moved away from Trevor and tried to act natural but now that he mentioned the connection she couldn't help but think on it even more. Krista liked Trevor a lot. He was so different from so many others she had met, she actually enjoyed her time with him.

As she finished off a bite of her rice she asked him, "So what will you be studying?" Krista turned her attention back to him as she picked up her drink and took a sip of it. Since she knew they would be going to the same school she started to wonder if they would have some classes together. She wanted to spend more time with him.

Trevor smiled as she teased about not feeding him anymore. "That's okay, I found a new type of chopstick I can use." He reached into the box and pulled out a piece of beef with his fingers and popped it into his mouth, then he wagged his fingers near her face, "Perfect tools, like primative man."

He laughed as she shyed away from getting sauce wiped on her face. "Well I haven't really decided yet. There are a couple of things I was thinking, maybe journalism, or maybe something with a computer. Graphic design perhaps?" He said.

"What about you Krista, what are your dreams and asperations?" He gestured to the view, "Want to own your own restaurant with a view?" He teased.

Krista laughed seeing him pick out a piece with his fingers. He did have a way of lightening any mood with her.

When he asked her about herself she chuckled, "No, but marketing is my thing. I like finding ways of making something much more presentable to customers." She took another sip of her drink before sitting it down and standing up to move to the edge of the rooftop but not close enough to fall off. She looked over the towns lights and remembered for a short time the trips her family took into the city together. Her mom was always proud of her and knew she would be great at anything she decided to do. Krista just hoped that one day she could help her dad so he wouldn't have to kill himself to provide for her.

Probably part of the reason she worked at the Cinnabun, her mother always wanted to own a bakery so the mention of her owning her own restaurant brought those memories flooding back to her. Krista didn't want to ruin the night with Trevor with silly memories like this. She took a deep breath and turned to him, "Sorry, what do you like to do more, write or design? That might help you make a decision."

Trevor shrugged, "I don't really know. I don't really feel one way or the other. The choice is hard though isn't it. I mean I have to look at these college courses and decide what I want to try to be for the rest of my life." He sighed and looked up at her, "Who's to say I need to jump right into something that I will be doing for the next forty to fifty years."

He stood and moved beside her, "Besides I want to have a few years to live life, do all those crazy things young kids do. I want to have a girlfriend, get in trouble a bit, get black out drunk and wake up in a strange place. I want to be able to look back on my youth and say, I didn't spend my young years worrying about my older years. That's no way to live right? Why can't we just live for the moment, at least for a while. If I learned anything from my father's death it's that I need to take value in living."

They were silent a moment and he chucked, "Wow sorry I didn't mean to ramble like that. Maybe I'm just nervous being alone with you. You wanna sit back down and like make out or something?"

Krista listened to him and when he moved beside her she actually glanced down at her hands. He was right. She had been doing just that, worrying about her years to come instead of enjoying life, but then enjoying her life would put her father in a tougher place. She remember him even telling her to get out and live a little instead of working so hard, but she didn't listen to him, in fact she worked even harder so that one day she may be able to get out and have some fun.

When Trevor finished and asked her if she wanted to sit down she turned her head up, her eyes locking with his for a moment and she knew she needed to live life even if for a little while. Krista needed to enjoy the time spent now instead of waiting around for the right moment for it to happen. Both of her hands reached up and cradled Trevor's face a second before her lips pressed to his. She was throwing all caution to the wind, living a little, taking a risk.

Trevor's lips were soft against hers and for a moment they just kinda held just like that. Krista started to worry and was even thinking of pulling away. Maybe her jump to taking a risk was too big of a leap.

Trevor blinked in surprise as she turned and kissed him. He was only joking about making out but he wasnt going to push her away. She must have sensed that he was surprised about it too because she started to pull away. Trevor put his hands on her hips and held her too him. He kissed her back, welcoming her mouth against his, pulling her bosy closer untim her breasts pressed against his chest.

Krista had a great body, she was fit, firm, yet soft and curvy at the same time. His body responded being against her. His trowsel tool was definately excited to get to know her better. Not that he would say or do anything like that against her will. He just met her today and he thought more of her than pushing sex right away.

Standing there holding Krista and exploring her mouth felt comforting. Good. Like it was just right to be with her. Who knows maybe she would become his first real girlfriend. It had possiblities. Like endless free cinnmamon rolls.
