Narrator:
~The alien world of Mer is being devoured by Dark Water... Only the young Prince Ren can stop it-by finding the lost thirteen treasures of Rul. At his side is an unlikely, but loyal crew of Misfits; at his back the evil Pirate Lord Bloth, who will stop at nothing to get the treasures for himself. Bloth is not alone though. The seductive Pirate Temptress Sora also seeks adventure and treasure... It's high adventure with the Pirates of Dark Water!~

Ren and Niddler were exhausted by the time they reached the small port town called Janda Towne. They had been walking for over half a day non stop since they left Dojon. That town had proven to be little to no help to them, and they hoped that this one would be different.

They came across a place known to the natives as Zoolie's Tavern and thought it may be a good place to rest their feet if nothing more...

"We are out of ale, be a good lad and bring some more up from the cellar."
The boy saluted, running down the stairs. Zoolie stood there a proud smile on his face. It might not be the best bar in Janda, but it was the cleanest. He always prided himself on this, making sure it was ship shape for all who wanted to quench their thirst.
A huge barrel came up the stairs, and under it was the boy. Zoolie ran over to help him, putting the thing away itself.
"You've done good my lad. The bar is getting slow, so you can go home early. Now you get a good night's sleep, and remember to be here on time tomorrow."
"Sorry, it won't happen again."
Zoolie smiled, handing him his weekly salary. (what sort of money do the use in Janda Towne?)
The bar wasn't slowing down, it was dead actually. Not even one such customer he could claim. Old drunk Pierson was in the back, asking for a beer every half hour or so. Zoolie couldn't actually bring himself to ask the man to pay. The poor guy had been through enough, the last thing he needed was to be thrown out of here.
Zoolie went about his business, the afternoon was already here, and soon enough it would be night. The ships would be in, and that meant the sailors would be in as well. A few hours of hard drinking, and even harder swearing, then they would stagger home.
Ahhh, the life of a bartender. Zoolie smiled happily, counting the glasses. He would need to order more made soon.
Zoolie went upstairs, checking the rest of his stock.

Prince Ren

OOC: Coinage is based on the gold standard, 'Krugars' being gold coins and silver coins 'glorns'. Check out the site I mentioned in the OOC thread to Tiggs - it's got some good background info, Poohlive.

IC: Since that night at the lighthouse, where I had been raised, my life had taken a sudden turn. Now, with Niddler the monkeybird, who I had helped escaped from his former 'master' - Bloth, the infamous pirate lord - I had been given a task, a 'destiny'. From lighthouse keeper to prince in one stormy night...

Now, we hoped to find a ship willing to help me on that appointed destiny. So far, we had had little luck. Maybe within this tavern, we might find some help. I fingered the compass that hung about my neck, a golden amulet set with a large crystal, which I had been given. I had told it would guide me...

Thirteen Treasures of ancient time,
Thirteen lessons of Rule in rhyme.
To find the jewels in secret places,
Follow where the compass faces.
If returned from the shore beyond,
A new day dawns for Octopon.
But if they fall into evil hands,
Darkness descends on all the lands.
For these riches, two shall vie
In the realm of Dark Water where the Treasures lie.

Ioz:

Once the ship he was on took port Ioz was off to the taverns. He did indeed love the sea, and the bounty it had to offer but a nice stout flagon of ale was what he needed now, and perhaps a wench warmed bed... Zoolie's was the first stop, of course... There would be several days in port. Surly his funds would run out before his time... In he walked, a nod to Zoolie, taking a bar stool he placed his hand on the counter.

Zoolie reached the top of the stairs, he took out the key, opening the locked door. Inside was quite a large apartment. The second floor had once been a set of rooms for customers to sleep... and even have a bit of fun, but since Zollie's house had burned down, he had resorted the whole thing into his own private place. It had it's disadvantages, especially when the customers got rowdy right when he had finally gotten to sleep, but only having to go down a flight of stairs to work was certainly handy.

Zoolie grabbed a bag of nuts from the corner. The cellar was temporarily full, and being sold at such a discounted price, he couldn't have said no. He dragged it downstairs, loading up certain bowls, and placing them at the tables. Beer, ale, and nuts, what more could a man want.
(big screen tv? oh wait, wrong time frame)

Zoolie nodded at a new customer in the bar, nothing had changed since he left, except for one man at the stool. One of his wenches was serving the man. That was fine with him.

When he had finished with the nuts, Zoolie walked to the other side of the bar. He wanted to get in a few practice shots of Rings before the evening sailors arrived. He wasn't exceptionally good at the game, but he tried his best. Zoolie grabbed one of the rings, and carefully judged the pegs on the far wall. He stepped up to a grease marked line on the floor, aimed carefully and tossed the ring. It landed right in the center. Zoolie looked up with great pride, it wasn't every day a man could just walk up and throw it onto the center ring. To prove this point, his next one bounced off the wall and landed near his feet.

He tried fruitlessly a few more times, and then gave up. He looked over at the dart board (I assume they have dart boards back then?) but thought against it. The dishes still needed to be done, and dinner was going to be awful, this was the weekend. Payday... everyone would have more than enough money for the food and ale here.

Zoolie tied an apron around his broad back, and got to work.

Tula...

Tula walked about the tavren, scooping up mugs by their large handles as she went. For the moment she was the only employ in the place, as Zoolie had made his way up the stairs.

Ioz, having had been at sea for a while, looked the young maiden over. A grotesque smile curled in his sea air chiseled lips. "Wench!" he boasted. "Wench get me my drink!"

Tula glanced in the stranger's direction, a scowl on her face. She continued on, though, walking right past him. In a swift notion, Ioz reached out, grabbing her. His hand caught a large amount of her silken black hair. He held on tight, pulling her back to him.

"Noy dijat!" Tula exclaimed, feeling a sudden pain along the side of her skull. "Unhand me Barbarian!" She had to hold tight to the beer mugs or else they would have gone crasing down to the tavern's wood floor.

Ignoring her demand, Ioz spoke once more, "Perhaps you did not hear me, wench? I said to bring me my drink!"

"I heard you, Barbarian!" Tula shot back. "I just chose not to hear you. Now, unhand me so that I can finish my rounds."

Ioz had never been the type of man who would have given up gracefully. Every battle that was his he had won. Simple as that. He certainly wasn't 'bout to lose to a...a woman! "Wench," he said, his grip tightening down within her hair, "I shall give you one last chance to obey. Do as you were made to do since birth and serve the man!"

By now, the few other occupants of the tavern had closed in, curious eyed, to watch. Not a one of them offered help to the maiden. Though she could not match the stranger in physical strength, her will was strong. She held her own far better than most women could have in her positon.

Zoolie stood along the fifth stair, a sack of nuts in his arms. He just stood there speachless. It was rare that they had any trouble here, and this was the first that someone had started any with Tula...

OOC: Ravenloft, I think (since Tula is still serving at the inn) that Ioz has yet to meet Ren and Niddler, the crew is still getting together. Going by the background, Ioz has a ship, the 'Wraith', down at the docks (or, it will be his when he steals it) - one of the fasted ships on Mer. Ren is still very much a 'landlubber' at the moment.

IC:
Finding a table at one corner of the inn, I and niddler sat, wrapping in the hooded brown robes we wore to help disguise ourselves from any of Bloth's men who might be seeking us.

A loud, brash man, from his cut obviously a sailor, was jousting words with a deeply tanned, dark-haired woman, whose fiery eyes made me think he had perhaps bitten off more than he could chew.

Niddler was already scanning through the menu, squawking every so often and licking his mouth, at the fare that was offered here.

Ioz:

Turning on the stool Ioz forced Tula back against him, her back to him. An arm flung over her shoulder and held her tightly in place. "It is eather ale... Or you, warming my bed this night... I know what I would prefer..." He growled against Tula's ear as she tried to pull out of his grasp only to be slammed back in against his chest. "Choose! My patience grows thin! ...WENCH!"

"All right... THAT IS ENOUGH!"

Zoolie walked down the steps, dropping the bag of nuts. He cautiously eyes the man at the stool.

"I kindly suggest you let the woman go, she's my barmaid... the only one allowed to rough handle her is me."
The small group hovering around the two chuckled at this, Zoolie didn't though. He was dead serious, and stared at the man.

He went behind the bar and poured the man a mug of ale, "You want it so badly, there it is. I suggest you drink in peace and leave my bar, before some one decides to pull your hair back."

His stare never left the man's own. He didn't want to start a fight so early in the evening, but he would if it came to it.

It wasn't every day that someone tried the patience of a man the size of Zoolie.

Shooting the bar tender a look as he held Tula tighly against him, she thought she felt his throbbing member against her side but then he released her with a mild shove. She took a step forward to keep from stumbling.
"I'll take your ale old man..." Ioz said with a smirk. "But I don't think I will be leaving any time soon..." He added as he looked Tula over, lifting the ale to his lips.

Tula...

Upon her release, Tula stumbled into Zoolie. He had his arms outstretched, as if expecting it to happen. He teld her tight, lovingly. It was almost hard to believe, at times, that this mountain of a man could be soft and loving. Then again, after having spent almost 10 years with a someone could do that to a person.

Though he hadn't been a pirate for nearly 20 years now, there was a time in his life when he had. During that time, he came across a man named Sabor. He was a free spirit, a man one could easily get along with. He had taught Zoolie that there were ways of survival that didn't need to end in theft...and other habits the pirates were fond of.

Ten years after the men met, Zoolie faced a life altering change. The land of Andorus was under constant atack from the mysterious, and deadly, Dark Water. Having felt he had lived a long and prosperous life, Sabor didn't fear his certain doom. He did, however, fear the demise of his young daughter.

Little Tula had only been 8 at the time. Her life was new, waiting for its chance to grow. Sabor wanted more than anything for her to have that chance. He had made a deal with Zoolie, when the Dark Water had first begun to spread, that if Andorus ever fell under full attack he would take Tula to safe land.

Being a man of his word, Zoolie did just that. He took Tula from her fallen homeland and brought her to Janda Towne. He regreted that he had lived above his tavern, after all it was not an ideal situation for a young girl to grow up in. Since she came into his life, he had felt like a father figure and became quite protective over her...

Zoolie hugged her tight. The woman was growing up, even he felt that. He still didn't want to let her go though. It was a tough world, as this brute had just showed them.
He helped her behind the bar, wiping away a single tear that had streamed down her face.

"Come on now, cheer up and all that."

A few rowdies came into the bar, yelling for drinks. Zoolie took in a deep breath and let it out in a sigh. He looked at Tula a softness in his eyes. They way that man had treated her wasn't right. He wanted that brute and her as far apart as he could get, but that wasn't going to be possible. It was payday weekend, everyone in town would try to squeeze themselves in here. He needed the extra pair of hands.

Zoolie turned back to the girl, "Tula, I want you to work behind the bar tonight. It's safer, just mix the drinks and take the orders."

She started to speak, but Zoolie put a finger over her lips, "No, I don't want to hear another word. Tonight your behind the bar. I will be in the kitchen cooking. If you need anything, just give a holler, all right?"

He glanced back at the man, a stern growl erupted from his throat, but he kept it down. Zoolie went back, finishing the dishes.

tiggs...

(ooc. If it is ok with you, I will delay the meeting of the ship of Sola...and the mute girl until jan second or so, I am going on vacation until then, I will get them into the story then.. Easy to do...If you don't mind...)

Ioz:

With a smirk Ioz watched Zoolie go to the back. He had already downed the flagon of ale that was set before him. He waited for Tula to turn her back then clacked the flagon against the bar top loudly, startling her. He laughed a bit at the sight of her jump then growled. "Another ale..." His eyes were staring through her it seemed.

OOC: Lava...

That's fine hon. It's hard to say how this story is going to go, and unless you show up at the tavern anyway, it may be a while 'til your character gets introduced! :) ~I still have no Bloth if anyone is interested. If not, Sora (that's what you called her the first time Lava) may be the only pirate captain here.~

IC:
Tula...

Steeling herself the best she could, Tula took a deep breath and turned towards Ioz. She took the one step forward that would put her up against the bar and reached out for his mug. She did not look at him or say anything.

Ioz smiled, taking that as her submission. She at least cooled her tongue for the moment. Damn wench should be seen and not heard anyway, he thought to himself. Right before Tula turned to refil his drink, he reached for her wrist. He held her tightly. This time she had no choice but to meet his stare.

Tula's cat shaped emerald gems looked into Ioz's cold brown eyes. She tried to read him, through his eyes, but discovered it was an impossible task. Normally she had this little knack at reading people...their personalities, likes, dislikes, and even their thoughts at times...but with Ioz, all was blank.

His grip remained tight on her delicate wrist. The more his eyes burned into her, the tighter his hand became...

Ren

"I'm hungry" Niddler moaned. Ever since I had met the monkeybird, the topmost thing on his mind seemed to be food.

I rolled a piece of parchment out on the table, and leaned forward to study it - or at least give the impression I was doing so.

"Well, we might as well order something" I said, "we might be here a while, this treasure map could take some deciphering."

I carefully judged the volume of my words - intending to make them just loud enough to hopefully attract the attention of the brash man nearby, but still quiet enough to make it sound as if I wasn't seeking attention.

My eyes cast across to the serving woman who he had taken hold of once more. I could certainly see what had caught his eye - she was an attractive woman - but his manners left much to be desired.

"Could we order some food here, please?" I said aloud.

"At last" said Niddler, a grumbling sound coming from his abdomen.

Tula...

Tula's eyes followed the new voice until she saw the handsome young man with his unusual...pet. She heard him speak of treasure before mentioning his hunger. She hoped that the stranger holding her had heard too. Perhaps he'd let her go? She really needed to catch up on her rounds.

(OOC: Just waiting for Raven or Pooh now. ;) )

Alac

OOC***Im purposely being vaugue, I'm not sure when Im supposed to meet Ren or even if we already have , So Ill coast alone until the powers that be decide we should meet.
***********************************************************
IC*

Alac sat by the port market. children who didnt have the money to buy things would sometimes beg off the sailors. But Alac was here for a diffrent reason. He sang light hearted songs of heroics and happiness of true love and magic. but as he did he watched every ship take off. he was well protected by the ring of children who would gather to hear his tales and meanwhile he listened to any gossip he could hear. He waited ...for an answer to an old song... could there really be treasures that would free us of the accursed dark water... waters that robbed this world of anything they touched... his songs continued as did the tricks but he was watchful and mindfull..knowledge was his treasure, and as he shared it with the passing children he was collecting it as well.

Ioz:

Releasing Tula's wrist as he turned to face the man that called to them. "You heard the man, wench! You would do well to serve him as you should have served me... PROMPTLY!" Smiling to the man at the table he nodded as though he had done him a favor, putting the girl in her place as it were. "You spoke of treasure though, eh? It would serve you as well as this wench's promptness to speak in hushed tones with such information... Its bound to get you killed one day..." Lifting a hand to keep Ren from speaking in his defence at that jab Ioz continued. "No, no need to thank me, its common enough knowledge... But perhaps if you take to the sea you could use another hand? I am here in port for only a few days... Of relaxation..." He said as he ran his hand along Tula's slim elbow in a suggestive manner. "If you are still about when I am to leave port..." And he left it at that, staring Ren in the eyes.

Zoolie walked back to the bar, looking at the sight. That man was really starting to piss him off, and it took a lot to get him pissed off. He held down his anger though, momentarily.
He plopped a bag full of garbage down on the bar, hard. Tula and the man were both startled, breaking their touch. Zoolie smiled at Tula.
"Get the orders dear," he spoke lightly.
She nodded.
Zoolie walked outside, quickly throwing the garbage away, before walking back up to the bar. It was starting to get filled by now, nothing compared to later on, but still there were people having some fun.
Zoolie walked up to a few tables, getting dinner orders, finally he made it up to the last near the bar.
"You two fellas talked of dinner..." he looked around questionably, "... among other things. What would you like?"

Rose

Rose stepped into the crowded room with a sigh. She pushed a strand of red curls off her face and scanned around for a moment, making her way to the bar she got a mug of ale and paid for it. Moving to a table near some people and a monkeybird.

Niddler

OOC: Sorry it took me awhile to respond. Been kind busy. I know I didn't reserve this character in the OOC thread, but it was because I had already made arrangements with Tiggs. So blame her if I mess up! lol ;)

IC: Waiting impatiently for the food, I turn to see a red headed woman enter the tavern. She took a seat at a table near us as she drank her ale. Looking her over for a moment, I notice that she looked pretty young to be in such a place. The girl was kinda attractive, for a human that is.

Turning my attention back to the others, I begin to grow tired of this talking. My stomach was growling and I needed some food soon. "Ren, I'm hungry," I moan to my young human friend as he continues to talk with the other humans.

Oh sure, ignore the starving Monkeybird while you talk among yourselfs. Resting my head in my hands, I listen on to the conversation as I keep thinking about getting something to eat.

Rose

I smirk at the poor monkey bird. I reach into one of my many pockets and get his attention, as his friends seemed to have tuned him out.

I hold a fruit out with a grin.

Niddler

What was the smell? It was very nice and seemed to be coming from somewhere near us. Turning around, I can see the young girl holding out a fruit towards us. Looking around, I can see nobody else that it was meant for. Leaving the table, I walk over to her and take the fruit that she offered me. Eating it without a second thought, I look up at her as I finish the last of the fruit.

Wiping my beak clean, I introduce myself "My names Niddler, uh why did you give me that piece of fruit?" Taking a seat near her, I look back to see the others hadn't realy noticed I was gone. Guess I could talk to this girl for now atleast. She was pretty, for a human.

Rose

Rose shrugged, smirking.

"You looked hungry, I had a fruit. No biggie..." She glances back toward the table he came from.

"So, what's a Monkeybird like you doing a place like this?"
