Cali Nelson age 29 5’5 long auburn hair, had never been one that gave up without a fight. She refused to succumb to the inevitable blindness that was slowly taking over her eyes. First she had to resign from the police station where she had been detective. Now she had to surrender her driver’s license.

Her previous partner and her had been romantically involved. But that ended when he tried to take care of her. She wasn’t ready to surrender to this just yet, she wasn’t ready to admit that she needed help. So instead she started up a private eye business. The only problem was she couldn’t register for a gun because she couldn’t see the target, so now she carried a baton and used the self-defense training instead.

Her cases ranged from missing teens to suspected cheated spouses. Tonight was her latest case; she hated having to work nights since her night blindness made things a lot more difficult. She had tracked the suspected erratic cheating husband to a club down town. She stood watching from a corner booth as he struck up brief conversations with a few young girls. Then a tall man approached him, he seemed to know him. His body language on the other hand seemed to relay that he was a bit nervous or scared

The man that approached him left, and her clients husband Mr. Collins waited a few moments looked around nervously and headed out as well. Giving the nervous man a few moments leeway she made her way out of the club and luckily caught the tail end of him going around a corner of the alley.

Slowly she approached with her camera ready. It was then that the screaming commenced and she turned the corner quickly with her want drawn just in time to see him go through an intention in the wall. Thinking it must be a door she hurried down the narrow dark ally only to find that instead of a door it was just a brick wall with blood dripping down it.

The next thing she knew she was hit on the back of her head. When she came to the figure of a man with a silky voice was speaking to her. Then he was on the phone saying something about an ambulance to have her checked out.

Henry FitzRoy, aged 475, looks mid thirties, standing 6'0 with short wavy hair and mawned beards.
Henry was a man who prefered solitude to company, humanity had the uncanny ability of despising what they can't understand. Centuries of experience with them had caused him to prefer his closet. He had no friends, well except those he sold his work to and even with them, Henry viewed it as a mutual relationship not friendship. He had always kept a low profile, even when feeding. Those were moments he wasn't proud of but a necessity he had come to terms with over the years.

Henry was a graphic novelist. Art was his passion and so was literature, it was in Toronto he finally found a way of unifying both desires...by making comic books. In his work he found a sense of peace and calmness as he freely poured out his feelings into every piece. Besides that, his work paid the bills...not that he needed the finance.

That friday night, Henry was on his way to the bar to grab a beer. He was on black jackets and black jeans. Black shoes and a black belt. Quite a cliche, which was his norm. As he made the turn towards the bar, his nose picked up a familiar scent wafting from an alley nearby. Fresh warm blood. Centuries back his two cannines will be proudly glowing in the moonlight. Years of practise had stilled him.
On approaching, Henry saw a lady on the cold floor. Blood oozing from the back of her head.
Part of him wanted to just leave, the other part...the human part will not have it.
Henry found himself by her side, picking her up into his arms.
"can you hear me?"
he asked, not sure what to do he dialed for an ambulance. Then lifted her into his arms, carefully placing her head on his chest so she wont bleed out.
He noticed her drifting in and out. She will soon be unconscious. "you will be fine." he assured as the sound of siren drew close.

When she came to she was being rolled toward the ambulance. "stop" she commanded to the medics. "I'm fine I don't need to go".

"Damn it Cali, why do you have to be so stubborn? Just go to the hospital and let them check you out.?" Mike her old partner shouted at her. "Why are you even here?" she asked annoyed that he was once again bossing her around. "Because anytime a mugging is called in someone has to respond. Why are you here?"

"A case" she said shortly deciding not to let him think she was losing her mind after seeing a guy vanish into the wall. "If that guy hadn't found you" he said pointing to Henry who was being questioned by an officer. "there's no telling what would have happened. You know you shouldn't be out at night alone." he continued to scold her, but she had tuned him out as she took in Henry, those curls and that smile. He was damn right irresistible. Probably had to give up a harem to save her, though he'd recover.

Slowly sitting up and grabbing her head she checked her pant pockets to ensure she still had all her stuff. "I didn't have a purse, nothing was taken, i didn't see who hit me on the head. Anything else detective?" she said coolly to Mike.

Her feet touched the ground and she wobbled slightly. "Thank you for your assistance" she said finally making it over to where Henry stood. Holding out her hand "Cali Nelson PI"

"Cali Nelson PI" Henry heard her say. Actually he had the entire conversation between her and the perfect cop. He couldn't help but admire her will...or was it sheer sturboness.
"Henry," he replied as he took her hand. For a minute he was lost in those eyes, taking in her features. He had been observing her all the while she was talking with the douche cop...her beauty had not really struck him like anything out of the ordinary but now, with her standing within arm reach...she was damn irresistible. Too bad they get to go different ways. "Henry FitzRoy" he said again. "Graphic Novelist. You alright?"

"Yeah i'm fine thanks, I've had worse. Did you notice anything suspicious before you found me Henry? Anyone running away? I know you've probably answered the same questions to the cops, but anything, even the smallest thing might help me with my case." She looked back down the ally to the wall indention that she saw the man disappear into.

"Mike i need a kit" she announced getting sidetracked. The earlier dismissed ex partner came to her side and handed it to her without bothering to ask why.
Cali walked away from Henry and Mike and made her way back to spot she saw blood and something black and oozy. Taking the kit she got samples of both and handed them to Mike. "Be a friend and let me know what the results are will ya."

"You can't use police labs for your cases Cali." Mike scoffed and gave them to the team to process.
"thanks" she said with a smirk. Then her eyes went back to Henry, "sorry did you think of anything else?

The truth is sometimes best hidden

His eyes followed her purposeful steps as she took a sample from the brick wall. On sighting the black gooey substance he immediately recognised it.
A demon was in town...one that wasn't too wary of leaving crumbs behind.
"no nothing." he replied tearing his gaze from the wall and focusing it on the curious eyes before him.
"Miss Nelson, i believe you are deeply engrossed in finding whatever you are looking for in this case of yours...and believe me when i say, i hate to pry into other people's lives...but this...this fellow you were after, who exactly is he?"
Henry glanced at the black substance again, he would need to contact Katarina later, she might have something on this new player...

"Just a spouse suspected of cheating, though I think he's into something he shouldn't be." she said lightly. "If you think of anything that may help please give me a call Mr. Fitzroy. Thanks again for your assistance."

What was she suppose to say to this guy 'oh i saw a man disappear into a wall?', they'd hall her up to the psych ward. She knew she wasn't crazy, she'd wait for the lab results to come back. Mike though he protested, always seemed to look for an opportunity to call her.

"You don't by any chance have a car Mr. Fitzroy I could use a lift."

"If you think of anything that may help please give me a call, Mr. Fitzroy"
"I sure will" Henry lied. There was no way in hell he was gonna get her involved in his world...though he had a feeling she was too stubborn to let things be.

"you don't by any chance have a car Mr. Fitzroy, i could use a lift" Cali said.
Henry smiled warmly, "With everything you have gone through tonight, its the least i can do."

Henry steered the black Nissan back into the empty street. He drove a couple of blocks before turning into the highway. Following her direction, the aged vampire made for the T-junction, then up the overpass and further a couple miles before turning into her street. Once in front of her apartment, he killed the engine and turned to her...
"So this cheating spouse of yours, you're still gonna go after him?" he asked. When she affirmed, he just scoffed. "Then i think you should get a gun. If someone is really after your guy, a baton is the last thing you will need to defend yourself." he advised.
Garlic was also a prominient weapon, but she might see that suggestion as weird or foolish.
He really needed to go now, a quick glance at his watch showed it was almost midnight. He hated waking the cute blonde up at such an hour, yet Henry knew he won't be at peace till he finds out who that demon was and its intentions. Last thing he needed was trails of blood leading to his door...

Cali scoffed. "As much as I would love to have a 9 mm on my hip they won't give me a permit for one. I have Macular degeneration. The non reversible kind. During the day it's not so bad, but i'm night blind. Luckily it means my other senses go into over drive. As long as they're in front of me I can defend myself pretty well with this baton."

Deciding to turn the conversation away from her she added "So what about you Mr. Fitzroy, are you missing a date with the latest model to play good citizen? Do you mind if I ask what you do for a living?"

Henry smiled when she commented about a date. Oh if she knew!
He felt bad for her, the sight issues was gonna prove a serious hedge in her mad thirst to right the society. "i thought, i told you before...i am a graphic novelist. I design things, create appealing scenes that reveals deep desires of humans."
Shifting his weight, Henry picked up a small black bag at the back seat and opening it brought out his business card.
"I have a small establishment upstate, i am having an art exhibition tomorrow. Nothing big, just a little Niche collection. I'd be honored to have you."
Henry couldn't place where it was erupting from or its cause, but he felt a great urge to see her again. She had this ambience around her, one that was slowly appeasing and rousing the vampire's interest

"I apologize, you may have told me. But given what i just went through you'll forgive my lack of attention to detail." she smirked and listened as his voice riverbed through out her body. What was it about this guy that drew her in? She hadn't felt anything like this in ages. Shaking her head she nodded. "Yeah I think i might be able to show up. Though i know nothing about art, or graphic art, or anything as such. But yes, i'll be there. "

"My email is on the card if you wouldn't mind just sending me a note with the details, or you could text me." Why was she babbling? What the hell is wrong with you Cali? Shaking her head she realized he had gotten her home safely. How long had they been sitting her. "Well thanks for the ride Mr. Fitzroy, i'll see you tomorrow." Opening the door she got out of his car. Of course not before tripping over the curb. 'Damn thing' she muttered as she waved without looking back and headed into her building.

Her office and her apartment were one in the same. She had found the person who stole the supers rare stamp collection. So he looked the other way to her having a business in the residence. Closing and locking the door behind her she leaned against it and ran her hands over her breasts. Closing her eyes she pictured Henry's face, as her hands taunted and teased her.

Masturbation was a great release of stress for her. Well that and alcohol. But right now it was the thought of him fucking her senseless that had her mewing like a sophomore at a senor quarterback. Taking her hunger to her bedroom she pulled out her vibrator and fucked herself into multiple orgasms before succumbing to a night of sleep.
