The PB liberals are ok with banning the Bible.

Who is banning what and where?

Some state laws have made this doable and even encouraged.

For my part, I'd prefer to share the Bible far and wide so people can see the stupidity within for themselves.

I agree that too much religion is bad for children. It teaches that obedience is greater than individual thought.

That doesn't mean that the lessons are bad, just that religion, like all things authoritarian, isn't the answer to all problems.

The same is true for liberalism/progressivism. Dogma for the sake of dogma, regardless of source, isn't freedom of expression or thought.

In blunt honesty, I think that everyone should be exposed to every theological discussion with every text available to them (even the ones that were since edited)

It's similar to political bullshit.....tribalism leads to suppression of information. More information leads to originality of thought and discussion.

The Bible is one school of belief.... understanding where it originated from typically results in rebellion and rejection, just as any other bullshit theology. It's helpful for sociology in understanding why people are susceptible to the bullshit...which is fantastic for anyone with a brain.

Not all religions are authoritarian like Christianity and Islam. For example, Judaism teaches children to question authority and to think through moral problems on their own.

During their B’Nai Mitzvah, young Jews are expected to provide their own interpretation of their Torah portion—not just read the Hebrew words aloud, but explain how they relate to modern life.

Lies.

ALL religions begin with mandating worship to the one true God. Or else. Because Heresy isn't just a word in the Bible/Torah/Quran, it's a very real thing that religion has a horrid history of doing to the people they don't like.

Even when they tell the truth. Just ask Galileo.

Which means that every religion is authoritarian. You just prefer the one you believe is more tolerant. Until it isn't.

Galileo was persecuted by Christians. Judaism has no concept of heresy. Disagreement over the interpretation of the Torah is expected and encouraged. The Talmud literally consists of hundreds of pages of the old rabbis debating scripture.

Jews also don't try to impose our own rules on gentiles. We don't care if Christians don't keep kosher. We also don't care if the Muslims do. Everybody gets to live by their own rules.

But. It's been the most efficient and effective mass human control system for thousands of years. How else is a small group of control freaks supposed to control massive crowds without constant challenges and violence. Then at some point the system of government was invented to control the masses with a different set of fancy hats and grand stories about why the control group is special and the masses should obey them and worship them. It starts with fancy hats and grand stories and then suddenly a small group of people are running the show, hoarding all the good stuff and leaving nothing but crumbs for the population.

If anything should be banned it should be the fancy hats. It all starts with fancy hats. (for those that are unsure, yes it was meant as humor)

Some religions don't have a god.
Some have many.

Not all require mandating things. Some do.

Try a theology class sometime.

You have no fucking clue. AT ALL!

Galileo was tried by the inquisition TWICE for heresy. Once in 1616 and again in 1633.

On April 12, 1633, chief inquisitor Father Vincenzo Maculani da Firenzuola, appointed by Pope Urban VIII, begins the inquisition of physicist and astronomer Galileo Galilei. Galileo was ordered to turn himself in to the Holy Office to begin trial for holding the belief that the Earth revolves around the sun, which was deemed heretical by the Catholic Church. Standard practice demanded that the accused be imprisoned and secluded during the trial.

This was the second time that Galileo was in the hot seat for refusing to accept Church orthodoxy that the Earth was the immovable center of the universe: In 1616, he had been forbidden from holding or defending his beliefs. In the 1633 interrogation, Galileo denied that he “held” belief in the Copernican view but continued to write about the issue and evidence as a means of “discussion” rather than belief. The Church had decided the idea that the sun moved around the Earth was an absolute fact of scripture that could not be disputed, despite the fact that scientists had known for centuries that the Earth was not the center of the universe.

Heresy is called Zandaqa in the Quaran.

Zindīq (pl. zanādiqa) is an Islamic pejorative applied to individuals who are considered to hold views or follow practices that are contrary to central Islamic dogmas.[1] Zandaqa is the noun describing these views.[2]

Zandaqa is usually translated as "heresy" and often used to "underscore the seriousness" of the religious error of the accused Muslim.

AND for the piece de resistance...

HERESY actually IS part of Judaism, despite your bullshit denial that it isn't.

Jewish heresy refers to those beliefs which contradict the traditional doctrines of Rabbinic Judaism, including theological beliefs and opinions about the practice of halakha (Jewish religious law). Jewish tradition contains a range of statements about heretics, including laws for how to deal with them in a communal context, and statements about the divine punishment they are expected to receive...

The specific rabbinical term for heresies, or religious divisions due to an unlawful spirit, is minim...

Besides the term min (מין) for "heretic," the Talmud uses the words ḥitzonim (outsiders), epikoros, and kofer ba-Torah,[4] or kofer ba-ikkar (he who denies the fundamentals of faith);[5] also poresh mi-darke tzibbur (he who deviates from the customs of the community).[6] Religious fundamentalists claim that all these groups are consigned to Gehinnom for all eternity and have no possibility of a portion in the world to come.[7]

Basically you lie more than a rug and HAVE NO KNOWLEDGE of the religion you profess to adhere to.

Which makes you worse than a liar, you're a fake.

The Inquisition was a Christian movement.

I'm speaking from my personal experience as an atheist Reform Jew. Strict Orthodox Jews are more censorious in their approach to the halakha, but they're a very small minority among modern Judaism. In general, modern Jews are not concerned about policing Jewish behavior, but about participating in their local community--observing Shabbat and the High Holy Days, practicing the mitzvot in their daily lives.

All? Sure about that sparky? Or just the ones you could google from what you remembered from your brief time in elementary school?

This is why Christians get Judaism so wrong. They know that Christianity is all about belief, so they wrongly assume Judaism is also all about belief and Jews just believe different things.

But Judaism isn't about belief. It's about practice. It doesn't really matter what you believe. What matters is living a Jewish life--keeping the mitzvot. Rabbinical arguments are never about theology, they're always about practice--given this particular situation, how should we interpret the Law? What should we do?

Judaism isn't transactional like Christianity. We don't follow the rules to get a reward or to avoid a punishment. We follow the rules because the rules are the rules. And if the rules don't make sense in a particular context, we figure out how we can work within them to honor their spirit if not their letter. For example, if you're sick, you shouldn't fast. Do something else.

Guessing his ban on prescription drugs is really hurting… he’s lashing out at others.

I don't see many kids trying to read much more than the cover without parents pushing that crap on them. I grew up in one of those bible BS religions and finally tried reading it in my late teens, years after I became an atheist.
