Meti checked his watch for probably the fifth time in the last two minutes. “Ok so she’s late. Damnit Joe are you sure you gave her the right address?” He asked angrily. Joe sighed in frustration. “Meti… she knows where Pierre lives, give me a break.” Joe responded motioning over to the Frenchman who stood eating the onion dip. A fourth figure came out of the kitchen carrying a bowl of chips and veggies he set down next to the dip, wrestling Pierre away from it. “What is zee meaning of zis?!” Pierre said haughtily. “We’re saving it for the party that’s what the meaning is!” Jonathan said angrily as he slapped Pierre’s hand again as he went for the dip. “Now do me a favor and go help Toshi with the mayo sandwiches..” Jonathan motioned into the kitchen where a diminutive Japanese man was expertly preparing food, going through the routines like a Benihana’s chef.

Met checked his watch yet again as the last of the preparations took place around them. “Come on.. everything needs to be perfect!” Joe said as he hobbled into the kitchen to get out the drinks. “You only get one chance a year to do this right!” He smiled at everyone, trying to pump them up. “Hell she’s half the reason we’re all here right now so let’s make this one heck of a party!” Joe said, slapping Toshi on the back, getting a kitchen knife through his fake leg for the trouble. “Errr…. Sorry force of habit.” Toshi said apologetically. “No harm no foul…” Joe replied nervously as he went back into the main room.

“Shhhh shhhhh! I think I hear her coming!” Jonathan said, pressing his ear against the door. “It’s her!” He said in hushed tone. “Everyone hide!” People leapt around the room, looking for a place to conceal themselves as Pierre went to the door to play his part. He waited impatiently until he heard the knock on the door and opened it smiling at the woman waiting on the other side. He quickly ushered her in and looked to make sure no one could be seen in their hiding places. “Thank you for coming for dinner…” He said, a sly smile on his face as he closed the door. Right as the door closed all the way everyone leapt out of their hiding places. “SURPRISE!!!” They yelled, Joe stumbling into the couch as he tried to awkwardly leap up. At just that moment a large ship burst through the southern wall of the apartment and a cannon sounded, showering the room in delicious crunchy cereal. “HAPPY BIRTHDAY!” They all yelled happily.
