My case load had increased by one last week. A new parolee was added to those I supervise. This one was a rip off artist. She'd been caught trying to steal some jewlery in a deparment store, had been convicted and sentenced to 4 years in the pen since it was valued at over $3,000.00. Now it was my responsibility to watch her for the rest of her parole time, all eighteen months of it.
I'd called earlier to be sure she'd gotten home to her apartment after work and no answer. Another call an hour later and still no answer.
Now I was sitting in my car across the streeet to see just how badly she'd violated her parole conditions. If it was enough she'd be back in the pen for the rest of her sentence.
