Gregory Ulrich was addicted to opioids. He’d had back surgery and received a limited prescription, but he wanted more and the Allina clinic in Buffalo, MN refused him. He threatened to shoot them and bomb the clinic if they didn’t comply.
They tried a restraining order, and they tried pressing charges, but his mental faculties are weak and it was decided that he was unfit for a trial, so the charges were dropped.
Trouble is, he never went before a judge to be certified incompetent, so he had no criminal record. He was able to buy a 9mm S&W handgun and bomb-making supplies from the local Fleet Farm.
In the morning of February 9, 2021, Gregory brought his gun and bombs to the clinic, and opened fire, killing one medical assistant and wounding four others. He also set off three pipe bombs.
Jury selection for his trial started today. He’s expected to plead guilty.
