I'm not going to C + P the whole article, but it basically talks about an experiment where rats were kept in a box with a button (or lever) which stimulated electrodes in their brain, causing an orgasm. These rats would press the button up to 20,000 times a day, not paying attention to anything else, they wouldn't even stop for food or water and eventually had to be freed to stop them from starving.
(There's also some human application stuff, but I'm focusing on the rat thing.)

So, if technology advanced and, for whatever reason, you found yourself locked in a room with a button which you later learn causes you orgasms, and you had nothing else to do, would you trust yourself to not press it?

Honey, I can't trust myself in the same room with chocolate. What would I do with that button....

Who needs a button like that, if he has imagination?

I've been gone awhile so let's revive this.

The takeaway: the "scientists" intervened to save the rats.

I have a button. LOL. I can't be trusted not to press it... (seriously, though, I think humans might remember to eat and drink. But that button would get worn down fast.)
