I must make clear, before this post, that it wasn't me that gave you a '1', but.....

I repeat my contention that voting '1' on a story is not always a 'troll'. I have voted one on a story that I felt deserved it, and will continue to do so.

I do not consider myself a troll, nor vicious, nor mean or vindictive. I consider myself to be an honest person, and as a consequence will vote on a story giving it a score that, in my personal opinion, it deserves, be it a one or a five.

The option is there for all of us to vote one.

Please, please, stop calling a one vote a vicious and malicious act of cowardice. I do not consider it so.

But.....if you get one-voted on every single one of you stories, that's a totally different matter. I agree, that is vicious and malicious.

I think that's quite a different thing. A troll sets out to bring someone's scores down no matter how good or bad the story is. That is what makes it vicious or vindictive.

However, I would say if a story rates a one, the author is probably clueless and really needs some constructive feedback.

Oh I quite agree - that bad stories deserve bad marks - (ex teacher in me...LOL)

But - every single one of my stories got kicked in the proverbial balls...
however - it seems they all have recovered and actually risen a little. SO yay me and whomever liked them too.

Usually I just don't bother to vote or read horrible stories... it feeds a beast that deserves to starve... there are more than few that shocked me and my sensibilities (punctuation, grammer, story line etc) to make it to the boards at all...

While I freely admit I am a comma whore (weaning myself away from it), I don't write bad stories. Maybe not your cuppatea but not bad either.


So there is... honest critique versus vicious cowardly destruction....

This thread made me think about what deserved the different grades 1 - 5, imho. So I came up with my own little rubric.

5 - Excellent story, really grabbed me in and carried me along, maybe gave me something to think about or just supremely fun.

4 - Good, solid story, just didn't wow me.

3 - Okay story with some problems. Nothing a good editor couldn't solve.

2 - Lots of problems but there's a glimmer there of something good, something worth building on. If there's a big light on in there, it might get elevated to a three.

1 - Very, very bad. I don't think I've ever voted a one because I just can't make it through that type of story. Unoriginal idea and very poorly executed. Spelling and grammar suck as well as often using the wrong word for what they mean to say.
