I just want to say thank you to whomever I seem to have offended...
One bombing an author is a seriously fucked way to take issue....

Anyone else ? Oh I know you have....

When I want to troll someone's stories, I give them 2's, not 1's. That reduces the risk of getting my votes swept off.

Don't look at us, Crista! I don't think anyone in the AH would do that to another author. Maybe someone from the GB?

its not quite the same as trolls spewing vitriol but sheesh!
Fairly high scores on everything and two hours later WHAM! What the fuck?????
So I know I got one or two bombed...on all of them!

You have a problem with me - bring it to me - not my stories

Maybe my personal troll has branched out! He's been absent for months but returned with a bang yesterday.
And no, he's not an AHer.

I get occasional 1-bombs every now and again, but there was one time when someone went through and 1-bombed every single one of my stories. They went away eventually, but there are still some 1 votes that have never gone away. Really sucks when that happens.

It doesn't really. :p What I really need to do is figure out how to get some kind of feedback.

As far as the 1 bombs, don't feel like the lone ranger. There are people who seem to get their kicks by dumping anonymous crap on people trying to write interesting stories.

Vicious Low Lifers!!!

You know I don't mind honest critique that isn't shaped like flames.
But I have a problem with some one going through and wiping out an author with malice of forethought.

Again - if you have an issue with me... bring it to me...

The stories are 98% fiction and harmless to all... why take out your angst on something that cannot defend itself? Oh wait - its because they are too cowardly to face someone with truth and honesty.

Anyway - :rose: :rose: :rose: to all the ones who have suffered the ignomity of being One Bomb by idiots with nothing better to do with their time.

Just remember: they can throw rocks at your rating, but that will never make the story less well written than it is. Such is the miserable futility of their actions. ;)

I hate watching the ratings climb and climb...little gains here and there...and then...once one of my stories makes it to the top list for any length of time...

Carpet bombing.

It's one of the biggest disappointments of my attempt at online writing, and I assume it's being done by those who want to keep a certain rating. I have no idea who, though (as there are SO MANY people rated higher than I am.)

I guess it's just a microcosm of what it would be like if there really money riding on any of this, and gives me the pause required to not attempt professional writing, as it seems...so disappointing and ugly.

But I definitely learn things I wasn't expecting while competing in a vote-based system.

The nice thing is that ultimately, the scores do rise through time (okay, two years...) and that's the general trend. Once the one bombs get swept off the system, I get to see a big jump back up.

My stories were one-bombed by several people on the GB, including one who bragged about doing it to me (he goes by the nickname Cap'n Amatrixca now; he's had several nicknames in the past). I reported them. They never were taken off as far as I know. So when I started doing it back, well, then there was a huge uproar.

One-bombs may not take away from the quality of your story but it will probably cause fewer people to read it. Being at the top of the list brings higher visibility.

Let's also not forget the 5-boosts that some people manage to call upon their stories (with the help of alts or clique-friends).

Submitting as one person while posting as another may shield you from flamewar-retaliatory 1-bombs, but then other authors and their fans who see you as a threat may be the biggest source of 1-bombs. Maybe not.

Who the hell do I threaten with my stuff???

Gods - and I never looked at it from that point of view - that there might be a groups of higher scorers (and old timers) who regularly one bomb upcoming writers....

BUt again - I'd like to know who I pissed off... or offended... I know Rites isn't the best thing I have written but its not bad either...

Oh = that may be why!!! its about elves and magic and OMG Pagan rituals in the old days!!!! RELIGIOUS BACKWASH disguised as a One Bomb....

Again - hugs to all who have been straifed...

Oh yes, I think that there are many who one-bomb impersonally to improve ratings. It's pretty much axiomatic that any story that rises to the top ten of its category will be promptly bombed. :)

Possibly it's not such a bad thing. There are huge numbers of stories continually pouring into the site, and something has to stir the pot a little now and then. Yes, it means less reads for some of my stories, but eh. That's the Internet. It's easy to post and it's hard to command an audience.

Indeed - not being read at all would be worse...
I look forward to the day that I find the courage to send to the print publishers.
I am still too new to having others even read my stuff.

Politics - don't you love 'em.... :p

Stirring the pot - is fine - especially with the influx - but egads earn it like we all do...

G-nite all...FAIRE OPENS TOMORROW!!!! :nana: :nana:

Opinions? Let's say someone couldn't get you to fight in the sewer with them on the forum and went to your current story and one-bombed it and slapped on a comment that made it obvious it was from them. Would they be a troll? I sort of think so.

we had such an awful time with trolls at the PDF many of us just turned voting off for our poetry. I had one nut job accuse me of being jealous over an H they received, and that poet w\desired an E. I told her it wasnt that important and she retorted, what do you know? You dont even HAVE one yourself.

It was all I could do to keep from spewing my stomach contents all over the screen, as I have deleted more H poems than I can count and exactly 8 little green E poems since i have been here. yeah, I'm jealous, right.... thanks for telling me, lol. ever since I told her that, I have had a persistent troll, so I decided, fuck it, and turned voting off.

my point is, there ARE jealous, petty people who like to stir things up, who revel in the pain they cause others. The first time I got a one bomb, I cried. It hurt, I admit it. It was on my very first H poem, and that poem was about my mom dying. so what, everyone dies, but it still hurt...we are human, we all have feelings and that is the facts of life. There will always be someone out there trying to bring someone else down a notch, for whatever fucked up reason they try to give themselves.

I even admitted on here in the hangout that I have had trouble with my stories, but even before that, I was getting one bombs. I hate it when it happens, but there is somehow a difference to me, when my poetry gets shit canned and opposed to my stories, I don't even care as I am not as invested in the stories as I am in my poetry.. It seems to happen to everyone and there are so many miserable people out there, hell, what difference does it make in the grand scheme.

On the other hand, a one or two vote with constructive crit, well, if it is signed? who can berate that type of honesty. I certainly wouldn't...

Now, someone once suggested to me, that there IS vicious competition for story of the month cash prize and those coveted little red h's, and 150 dollars isn't enough for me to go and mess with people's feelings in order to try and boost my own work up there to have a chance.

I know from experience, it does take time and if you write well enough, you cultivate a group of devoted readers whose positive votes will eventually negate the trolls' votes.

What we all need to remember, is that a low vote does NOT determine the quality of the story, usually. I have read through the index and found some stories with dozens of votes and they seemed to be all low ones then I would read the story and well, some of the stuff deserves a low rating. but I usually just click off the work if it is so poorly written I can't even read it. why bother voting then, silence is golden, and that is where I have determined my work is lacking, by number of votes compared to number of reads. If I have 20K reads/clicks and 4 votes, then either it was awful, or it was so awesome, that everyone who read it was too occupied to press a score, lol

chin up, ignore the idiots who vote low and dont tell you why.

Dr Phil, in his infinite wisdom once told a woman,

" Not one iota of MY self esteem is dependent on what YOU think of ME."

I live by that now and just try to do better with my plots and execution.

good luck sweetie

Nah, I am over it...
It just isn't right thats all...

But no pleasing everybody - Not Even God can do that! LOL

I must make clear, before this post, that it wasn't me that gave you a '1', but.....

I repeat my contention that voting '1' on a story is not always a 'troll'. I have voted one on a story that I felt deserved it, and will continue to do so.

I do not consider myself a troll, nor vicious, nor mean or vindictive. I consider myself to be an honest person, and as a consequence will vote on a story giving it a score that, in my personal opinion, it deserves, be it a one or a five.

The option is there for all of us to vote one.

Please, please, stop calling a one vote a vicious and malicious act of cowardice. I do not consider it so.

But.....if you get one-voted on every single one of you stories, that's a totally different matter. I agree, that is vicious and malicious.

:D I had to laugh. I'm sure you meant that the story remains well written despite the one-bombs. But it reminded me of that that old insult along the lines of "I'll never think less of you no matter what you do" or "I can't think any less of you" or something like that.

christabell, maybe your one-bombs will get swept. That happened to me and my story recovered. What makes me frustrated is when a story is sitting pretty and gets one one-bomb. It can knock it way down and difficult to regain it place unless there's a large number of votes, which mine don't get.

The last few chapters of the "THE KISS" romance series I've been posting seem to have attracted a troll. While that's a distinction I would rather do without, it's nice to know someone cares.

Rumple Foreskin
