Well? The Olympics are less than a week away. Ya gonna watch 'em? And if you are, which events?

With the smog that's going to be there, even those sitting in the stands probably won't be watching the Olympics.

:D Now, now. The most recent news is that rain has washed away some of that smog.

Take it you've never been to Beijing. :)

Alas, however, I will be missing some of it on TV (if they can film--and it's likely that TV viewers will see more than those in the stadiums will)--have to take the granddaughters to Busch Gardens.

As much as I can. I was a competitive swimmer in high school and friends with an Olympian swimmer, so of course I plan to watch all the swimming. I love watching diving, gymnastics and equestrian events, too. Oh! And soccer, of course! My school did soccer instead of football, and I actually understand how the game is played. (Football baffles me.)

I'm looking forward to the Tibetan Smashing, The US-Aid lending, both the 100-Million and Billion dollar events, and the Balance of Trade Dash, where I hear China's really got an edge these days. The Internet Jamming should be good too, and the Freestyle Press Repression. The Whitewashing and Propagandizing will be back this year and hard to ignore. And then, I always enjoy the Smarmy Broadcasting event.

By the by, have you seen the logo for these Olympics? It's the worst, most depressing thing I've ever seen. Looks like some sort of venereal disease-plagued robot or something. WWTT? (What Were They Thinking?)

Apparently they couldn't pirate something better.

I'm going to be watching. The problem is they usually air the events that don't excite me too much. I'm more of a fan of the field events than the track events, and they usually skimp on those.

Volleyball, waterpolo, weight lifting, judo, diving... Actually most of the sports.

Won't watch.

It's not political-- in my view, for example, the old Tibetan regime was a theocratic despotism and is well gone-- I just don't care for them, or wish to sit before a television that long.

It's in a fucked up time zone for me, so I probably won't watch much. If I see any, it's the weirdo shit that you never get to see otherwise, like kayak slalom, archery and field hockey.

I'll never understand which sports are on the program and why.

Naked bobsledding? I'm all about that.

That probably wouldn't be as much fun as one would think. Jay Leno showed a clip of just that the other night, and the lass flipped off the back right at the start of the run. Any salivating had to be done quickly.

Me and the wife will be most definitely watching, been looking forward to it.

So sue me.

:D

By the way, I do think it was a terrible mistake by the Olympic committee to pick China. The pollution, the politics (both internal to China and the restrictions China is imposing on athletes and journalists), etc.

But the upside is that China is pretending to behave for the last year or so. I have no evidence to support this, but I'm pretty sure China got North Korea to stop shooting missiles in Japan's direction, and play nice with the nuclear regulatory types.

On that note, I have to say that I'm more looking forward to women's indoor volleyball than the beach volleyball. Perhaps because I prefer my women with a fairer complexion, and seeing all that sand just makes me itch.

Yeah, and what're they going to want in order to behave well after that?

I'll be surprised if I end up watching anything. I don't usually care enough about TV as a whole to demand control of the remote, so I don't get to unless I make a disproportionate fuss. If my son decides to watch some the games, I might see them.

You missed the big one Doc, The IOC Freeloading. Personally I gave up watching about the time Tatiana Grigorieva no longer appeared.

Nope. And I'll be buying from as FEW of its sponsors as I can.

I may not convince the world to boycott China, but my family will...

Prolly won't watch much...I'm not into tv anyhow and sports (with the exception of baseball) even less. The IOC is a bunch of overpaid shysters that choose the city that gives them the most favorable venues and personal goodies. Since when were the Olympics elevated to the status of world shaking event anyway? :(
