I'm considering possible new angles on the scenario of a prim-and-proper wife falling into prostitution. The usual aspects would need to apply: cheating/cuckolding, hesitancy, enjoying it wilfully in the end etc.

A very charming guy makes it a project to seduce her, say a Church leader, David. For a twist, instead of David, have the Church leader be Bathsheba, who seduces the ladies as above.

You mentioned "the fall," making me think about the tagline "The Fall enslaves us all" in the 2012 rendition of Total Recall.

Maybe she walks past a poster, a woman scarcely clad woman in chains. "The Fall enslaves us all" as a tagline. She knows what it means. She might be sheltered, but her friends are not. They talked about it. She would never do it.

Still it nags at her. How would it be with another man? At least one of her friends has stated she has made quite a bit of money by going to "book clubs," or so her husband thinks. Initially she thought her friend would have middling sex, but she describes each encounter as a whole new world.

Instead of going fir that service, she goes to an entrusted (male?) friend and tells about her conflict. To her surprise there the response is that they can set up a trade. A lot of money for her, just for her attending a party. Sex isn't even on the table, though always available. She's appalled and leaves.

Weeks later she calls, and timidly asks if she can have just the party. A new experience for her that doesn't cross the line.

At the party she feels like it's a date from her late teens. All these erotic emotions surfacing. She'll be strong for her husband. Of course she won't. No new amazing sexual worlds to explore for her.

I'd guess OP doesn't want "hubby awareness" in any form if it's to be a cheating or cuckolding matter.

I like the idea of a whole series of church ladies being turned. The production line thing speaks big to me. This could certainly take the form of one wife's tale being described - with the background of the mass seduction/pimping being gradually revealed.

You could certainly use the POV of the client instead of the escort/call girl. One way or another, if you're telling the wife-turned-hooker's story, you'll have to write her saying stuff, I would think.

What might be missing is a description of the clients. On reflection I'd have it written from a double perspective, that of one particular wife AND that of her client. It turns out that the latter is a regular churchgoer together with his own wife... and of course the light begins to dawn regarding her recent growing enthusiasm for coffee mornings with her friends.

I've just thought that this could be built on. A neighbourhood "prostitution circle" has often been mentioned in Story Ideas. There would be quite a hook in having this circle being composed of ladies who are otherwise pillars of the community and models of rectitude... but actually loving what they're doing.

Your 'anthropology course' is telling you the kind of little untruths so beloved of academics who study ancient prehistory (which is the issue under discussion)... supposition dressed up as fact and pursued relentlessly as such without fear of anyone proving otherwise... when in fact the supposition itself cannot be proved, despite the number of doctorates and professorships doubtless gained via its repetition.

Id est: anyone's guess is as good as anyone else's... that's the problem with the study of times antecedent to written records.

And, what's more, a hand-to-mouth (literally) subsistence occupation is not a profession by any reasonable reckoning. It is a survival activity. Presumably you would not categorise seeking the shelter of a cave or the warding off of wolves as a 'profession'..?

Modern tribes are at best contaminated - in various ways - by contact however slight with the developed world and are irrelevant to the issue in any case.
