The *Official* Master Phoenix Memorial Pick'em Pool for 2011!

As I said in the Pool is Coming! thread, we'll be using PoolHost.com to manage our pick'em pool this year. It's easy to get in if you didn't (or did ) play last year. Click on the link above and login (if you played last year) or register (if you didn't) in the red options section at the upper left. Those who played last year, if you don't remember your password, PH has a "lost password" function that should get you back in. Once you've logged in or registered, click on the "Pro Football Pick 'Em" button and log in to pool "LitPool11" with the password BDSM. Then follow the directions for playing the pool.

Those who played last year will know the reason for the pool's name here; for those who don't, Master Phoenix was a frequent contributor to the BDSM fora, a happy player of our pool, a professional sportswriter (specializing in football), and a rabid Oakland Raiders fan who sadly passed away unexpectedly last year mid-season.

The consensus opinion seems to be to play all weeks for all players, so that's what we'll do.

Players who miss the picks deadline will again have picks randomly selected by the pool manager (hey, that's me!), which has *not* been a terribly efficient mode of selection in the past, so you might want to set yourselves a weekly reminder to get 'em in on time, k?

This week's first game is Thursday, September 8th, at 8:30 Eastern (US) time, so please get your picks in before kickoff!

I was really excited to see the pool named in his, honor Sir W! Many years ago, when I was first on Lit, I talked with Master Phoenix a great deal and enjoyed his writing.

Yes. Yes, it is. However, you needn't know anything about football to play. We have an Ozzie who's playing who claims to only know the names of four or so teams, and a Yank who swears to pick by the cuteness of players' butts. One year, we had a player who made picks by relative looks of the teams' quarterbacks. It's all for fun, and costs nothing more than a few minutes of one's time.

If New England beats Miami in the first of tonight's two MNFs, we'll be in a four-way tie for first going into the second MNF, Oakland at Denver. I think.

Then, if Oakland wins *that* game, we'll be in a five-way tie, winner to be determined by total points. I think.

I'll let y'all know tomorrow morning what happened.

hey all...probably should have introduced myself earlier, but im more of a lurker than a poster i guess. anyways ive moved back home recently and because of that im not in my normal fantasy leagues with my friends, and when i saw one of your posts asking for people to join i figured it would be a fun thing...hope that wasnt/isnt a problem

Not a problem at all... I was just curious at seeing a name I didn't recognize. Welcome, both to the pool and the Café! Maybe now that you've gotten your feet a bit wet, you'll jump in and post a little more. (Heh - did you see what I did there, with "getting feet wet" "in the pool?" I crack me up sometimes. {But I *do* love metaphors.})

BTW, if you have any friends who would also like to join in, we can accommodate them, and either calculate their season stats as a percentage from join date (but not toooo long from now, we'd hope!) or give them a random set of picks for week 1 and go from there. Since there's no money or fabulous prizes involved, I don't think anyone would object to a late entry or three.
