The following is post # 1010 on the a.i.r. contest support thread. He also posted exactly the same thing in posts #1001, 1004 and posts #1008. He's now up to 217 times posting the same thing. Mind you this isn't a record for him.

Apparantly our tiger lady threadmistress has been encouraging him in his pettiness. I guess the a.i.r. thread has been making hers look bad...

SSS did a fine job with Summer Lovin', and now that I am not copy editing for any entrant and am therefore free to vote, I'd like to see the stats (although they won't influence my voting, of course).

A Loooong story for the contest

Need some advice. I notice the rules say that you can enter multiple chapters of a complete story for the contest.

I have a huge story, about 50K words. A couple of years ago I submitted A Gor-y Halloween. I tried to finish it last year, but couldn't in time for the contest. Now I have the A Gor-y Halloween party. They both can standalone.

This entry is so long - the question is: can you submit multiple chapters (2 or 3) as one entry? Should I make it just one huge entry? I'm not that worried about the score - I'm ineligible, I'm just trying to figure out the right way to do this.

Has anybody submitted a multi-chapter contest story? Do they make one big entry out of it, or do they get separate listings but one score? Advice? Help??

My reading of the rules is that you have to submit a single story. In other words, if you have a long story, combine the chapters (maybe put them in as headings).

But I'm not the Big Cheese, the Head Honcho, the Number One, the Head Man, the Boss ...

I have submitted long stories including several chapters but as a single submission with the chapters marked with headings "Chapter 1" and several blank lines at the end of each chapter.

I think that as long as it is a complete story submitted in one piece, it doesn't matter how long, or how many chapters it has.

So long as the story is self-contained, it doesn't matter if it's broken up into chapters internally. You just can't enter separate chapters, or one chapter of a longer work.

As for length -- the winner of the Summer Lovin' contest had a 12-screen-page story, which would be 40k words, give or take. So there's no upper limit on word length for a story.

The rules mention that we can enter a little sooner than 10/01. How much sooner does that mean? Does that mean we can enter it tomorrow to cover the approval time for Monday?

Are stories going up a little faster now?
I seem to remember something about a slowdown not too long ago. Prior to that stories were taking (I think) 2-3 days to post after submission.
Mine's done and I'm just waiting to submit, but I want to maximize it's exposure time during the contest because it's erotic horror.
And thank you PennLady for taking the time to keep the contest thread going, yet again.

For anyone who's thinking about entering but isn't sure - enter the contest! Last Valentine's Day was my first (and only other) contest entry, and the whole process and reading this thread were both quite entertaining.

I is gonna be a nervous wreck before this story starts getting votes. Did I go to dark with the story? It's seen from three peoples point of view, did I get the separation done well enough to understand? Did I cross all the I's and dot all the "T"?

Sorry, no hugs...just some support.
You have the same problem I do, and I suspect many others do, too. But at some point you have to submit the story. Just hope the readers are willing to forgive a completely misspelled word or a sentence that just doesn't read well.
And then when you see the comments come in and people pick out one of your errors, just laugh.
Despite short time I've been writing, or perhaps because of it, I speak from experience.
I still have to look up 'tiramisu' to get it right!
