Lily Haber nervously smoothed her perfectly smooth gray skirt down again, now wishing that she had worn one just a touch longer, even if she had to buy it. Even though the skirt showed off her long, elegant legs, Lily worried again that it might be too much. But the money to get a new skirt was needed for upcoming rent, because she just needed a little more time to find a job here. She could make this work, she knew she could.
The small reception area was the fanciest office she had ever seen. The leather on the seats was butter smooth and the art was labeled with small brass plates. If she wasn't waiting for her interview, she would have been pressed to the large window, soaking in the view. The cityscape reminded her why she had come here, so different from the farm she grew up on or the podunk military town her ex husband had taken her to.
She tried to resist checking the small silver watch on her delicate wrist and failed. It had been 20 minutes since the receptionist in the big lobby, way downstairs, had directed her to the elevator and had a quiet man in a security uniform use a key to send her up here. An agonizing ten minutes past her appointment.
She did manage to avoid tapping her sensible heels on the floor as she settled the thin violet shirt carefully over her willowy curves once again. Wearing such thin fabric always made her feel exposed, but she enjoyed the silky hush of it against her skin. And she knew the color was perfect for her, playing up her clear, smooth skin, golden blonde hair, and deep blue eyes. She was only 22, but looked younger. She had gotten married instead of going to college, and now she was too stubborn to go crawling back to her father. She had to make it on her own. She had to get a job.
Everything required experiance that she didn't have. Then she found the ad, "Personal Assistant Wanted. Apply in person to schedule interview with Young & Foster. Integrity and personality a must, no experiance necessary."
She could stay in the city if she could just get a job. She could get this job if she could impress the man behind that big walnut door.
