With the news this morning that a "huge column of troops and vehicles taking two hours to pass" (BBC NEWS24) is heading towards Baghdad I think I figured out what happened yesterday.

All of us were victims of an experimental mind-bending drug released by the US by mistake on Friday. With prevailing winds going from East to West it quickly encircled the world making Bush supporters believe Baghdad and its Airport had fallen...

Luckily the natural defences of the true cynic saved the day and we could keep hammering home the truth to those who easily succumb to stories like that from the American Leadership until by this morning they've all returned to their, what can laughingly be called, normal way of life...

Anyway lots of troops, tanks and support vehicles "a Brigade at battle strength" are at this very moment speeding towards Baghdad.

All are visible, all look solid enough and every news channel carries the story, and further verification is that the Captain from COMCEN didn't release it so...

It must be true...

It's okay....calm down....the invisible troops are gone now....they never really existed.

On Japanese TV news at mid-day today, they were showing battlefield wreckage near the Saddam International Airport. There are 12 burnt-out tanks, and one Apache-chopper.

The airfields are cratered, but no sign of any US troops there.

There was very heavy artillery bombardment all night, and the US forces were attacked by two divisions of the Republican Guard.

So it's okay now.....the invisible troops are all gone....and they never really existed.

You know the story about the US troops going through Baghdad's city centre and nobody in Baghdad seeing them...that might have been an April Fools joke, but the Pentagon had to delay due to internal unreality-overload.
