Well just got back from seeing The Dark Knight. As expected, it rocked :D . Some of it, you expect just a bit because of the last film, but for the most part the movie was quite well done. Heath Ledgers performance was perfect for the role, as was the actor whom played Harvey Dent.

-SPOILER-
So, besides a brief appearance by the scarecrow, there weren't really any other hints towards appearances by the other villians, that I saw at least. Thinking the next one should have The Penguin or Catwoman, would make sense. Any other thoughts?

Do you know how hard it is for me to not read that spoiler?

Ayup, which is why its a mild spoiler and really won't ruin the movie. But its got something that the ad's didn't have so...didn't want to risk ruining a moment of it for anyone

I'm not seeing it until tomorrow morning, so thank you for tagging it. But I'm not seeing it until tomorrow morning, so it is so difficult to not be able to read that until I get back!

Curiosity killed the cat :D

I lucked out because there are a ton of theatres around here, most showing it starting almost every 30min. Ooooo and saw the new Bond trailer, that looks good too.

There are plenty of theaters showing it here too. But I have a private martial arts lesson tonight, already rescheduled from Sunday morning, and I really don't want to miss that.

Kudos to Ledger. What an amazing talent!

I saw it. It's a good film, and I mean that not just as an action/superhero film; it takes it metaphor of conflicts rising beyond just good guys and bad into a tense discussion on chaos/order, lies/truth, hope/despair and the darkness in people's souls, from the man on the street up to those who try to be the saviors of humanity. It's central question: can anyone hold onto their honor?

It's got layers and depth and is well worth seeing.

One thing I must add....

We lost a phenomenal talent when we lost Heath Ledger. His performance is amazing. The owns the role, transforming it from cartoon into reality with nuisances that bring it to life, and he owns the film--though there are many other fine actors in the movie, he is beyond belief. It all revolves around him, not just the conflict, but the deeper metaphor, and he carries it all with ease and brilliance.

If you think you know the Joker character, think again. Ledger both reinvents him, yet keeps him truer than true. I'm glad he was given and able to do this role, as it is a tour de force. But it does sadden me, even more, that we lost him.

Ok, so I saw it, and I have to say that was awesome. I didn't know watching a movie could be so great, and I have seen my fair share of great movies.

And as to your spoiler:

-SPOILER-
Nolan has already stated that he doesn't like the Peguin, and considers him an all too unrealistic character.

And I still say that Jeremy Irons would make the perfect Me Freeze.

-chuckles- Yup yup, very good movie indeed. Looking forwards to the third one already [which is rare for me to say].

-SPOILER-

Hmmmm good point. I would love to see Mr Freeze, or perhaps another crack at Poison Ivy.

And its already setting records:

Batman's joust with the Joker has set another box office record.
Heath Ledger dominates as the Joker in "The Dark Knight" in a performance already garnering raves.

Heath Ledger dominates as the Joker in "The Dark Knight" in a performance already garnering raves.

Stoked by fan fever over the manic performance of the late Heath Ledger as the Joker, "The Dark Knight" set a one-day box office record with $66.4 million on opening day, Warner Bros. head of distribution Dan Fellman said Saturday.

The movie's Friday haul surpassed the previous record of $59.8 million set last year by "Spider-Man 3." "The Dark Knight" might break the opening-weekend record of $151.1 million, also held by "Spider-Man 3."

"I think they're in jeopardy," Fellman said of the "Spider-Man 3" records.

"The Dark Knight" began with a record $18.5 million from midnight screenings, topping the previous high of $16.9 million for "Star Wars: Episode III -- The Revenge of the Sith."

And its already setting records
Yes, and for one of the few times, I'm glad of it. There are some record-making movies that I really wish didn't have that distinction (like the "Sith" Star Wars movie), but this one deserves its place, even if it's likely it would have broken those records even had it not been a good movie.

But it is a good movie, and Ledger deserves the raves and the movie the success it garners from those raves.

Thinking about it again, Catwoman would be the most likely as a character, but not really ever a villain as the others have been. She would be more of a side character (if you can call him that) like Dent/Two Face. I'm not sure who a really good villain would be right now. Batman always had some really over-the-top characters, and so many of them wouldn't work in real life (clayface, croc, Mr Freeze, Poison Ivy [well, maybe, but I don't know how you would make her all that dangerous for the bat in a realistic movie], penguin, bane). Maybe back to the Riddler again? He appears to be the most likely when looking at the character pool available.

I also wouldn't mind seeing a return of Ras Alghoul. He hinted at being immortal, as the character was in the comics, and even though being immortal isn't all that realistic, his return could possibly be explained.

Thinking about it again
Joining in....

The way it almost always goes is Joker then Riddler. I'd bet money on Riddler and Catwoman. It's the logical next step as they're both the next favorite villains after the Joker an can fit into the "realistic" dynamic that Nolan has created. A criminal obsessed with riddles could be as believable a "crazy" villain as either the Scarecrow, Joker or Two-Face, while a morally neutral (and sexy) cat burglar would be as believable as any of the mobsters we've seen.

Besides, they've clearly made room for Catwoman to enter Batman's life romantically, haven't they?

Indeed they have.

I think I have to go see it in the theater again next week. I never do that, but I think I have to get my want to see it again out of my system soon, instead of waiting for the special edition DVD like I normally do.

I hated Jim Carrey's Joker. I haven't seen this yet, and I'm looking forward to it.

Jim Carrey was The Riddler, but who cares. LOL

I doubt this is the movie of the century as some say, but damn, I haven't been so excited about a sequel since ... was it T2 or Aliens?

It's very good, but no, I wouldn't call it the movie of the century. Ledger's performance, on the other hand, is certainly worthy of the hype.

No, its not quite the movie of the century [of course, when you consider that there are still 90+yrs to this century to go...]. But it was a very good movie indeed. There are few that ever really live to their hype, but this one does, and I was glad to see it in the theatres opening weekend [which I NEVER do heh]

I saw it Saturday morning at 10:00, and was amazed to see a near full theater. There was clapping at multiple parts. Laughing, shock, horror, all there. We were gripped from the beginning to the end. Almost the entire room loved it. I was totally shocked and amazed. It wore me down just watching it. I felt like I was there with Gotham in their distress.

I will watch it again. And then I will decide if this is my favorite movie ever.

I miss Ledger terribly. I think that says it all.

My favorite part is where he blows up the hospital.

I like the pencil scene, myself.

-Chuckles- I liked...Where they're going on about the businessman from Hong Kong being out of Dents jurisdiction and the reply is "Batman has no jurisdiction". Or the scene where the guy tries to blackmail Wayne through Lucious and Lucious looks at him and goes "So you think a multibillionaire spends his nights beating the pulp out of villians. And you want to blackmail him?"
