Fine.

So, we've all had our moment of whining and bitching. 2257 is here and everyone on the 'net is preaching to the choir. What needs to be done is to have people send LETTERS as well as emails to people who need to deal with this. Let their paperwork start to build.

Why letters? Because the recipients may block emails or lie about the number they receive. Also, if you live in the United States, a copy of your letter should go to your United States Senators; you have two of them. His or her contact information can be obtained at the following URL:

http://www.senate.gov/general/contact_information/senators_cfm.cfm

In addition, your United States House of Representatives Member should receive a copy of the letter you send to the address provided at the end of this message. His or her contact information can be obtained at the following URL:

http://www.house.gov/writerep/

With respect to content: This is a legal issue, not a moral one; I would suspect that an effective letter, email, message would be short, to the point, and address issues of Free Speech, be devoid of hostility, threats, vulgarity, and not have any attachments or hyperlinks.

Physical letters should be written on thick or substantial paper, since the Members of Congress have the "pro" and "con" issue-letters WEIGHED to determine the relative amount of communication on a hot (volume-producing) issue.

If you don't know what issues you wish to address specifically, some ideas can be obtained at the following Free Speech Coalition URL:

A reminder: Keep to one topic per communication. If you want to bitch about the war, for example, do it in a separate letter or email, since the staff won't take the time to note both issues, but will more than likely dump it into one or the other, thereby making your second comment ineffective. It's important to tell your representative that you VOTE in every election (presuming you do). You are their boss; pissing you off may get them fired. Needless to say, that is more true for Representatives than for Senators, but the point is still the same for each.

Lit is something like 23 on the Big Board activity list. Zillions of readers and posters. Volume is the name of the game in politics.

Why political action when it is a legal issue to be hammered out in (Federal) District Court somewhere? Because more often than not, politics influence the courts more than the other way around. Also, because there is noting the People can do about the court cases (and there are plenty of good folks to fight the fight in those venues). It's important for the politicians to realize that ordinary voting people enjoy adult content, not just the stereotypical marginalized weirdoes.
