Really? I had read somewhere that she was done with the Potter books.

This is great news, then. Sorry, I have no theories since I had no idea she was doing this.

Guess I should finish the last book before this one comes out. Get my reading glasses out. It sucks getting old.

there are at least three hore harry potter titles patented in england. but she will go to the seveth year at least.

just curious

Where did you get your info please? I went right to Jo's Desk and while I found numerous references to the book using that title, at several points she mentions that it is the working title. No official mention was made of the "official" name. :D

By the way, still no release date yet. It's not done yet, and she's now expecting her third child. While congrats are in order (did the email thing allready) it's too bad books have longer gestation periods than humans!

p.s. There's also a rumour that it's going to be Mark Evans, a character mentioned in passing in book 5. Ms. Rowling has a thing where she mentions a character in passing and then they burst onto the page in full technicolor glory. She mentioned this guy, and now everyone is speculating that he's the hpb. Nope, she quashed that in the rumours section.

I personally saw the title on her webpage, the day it was released, it was behind the door with the "do not disturb" sign on, but that's up again now, so you can't get there.

You can read more here:

I don't think so, since Hagrid has a giant as a mom.

Personally I think that the Malfoy kid might be the one she's referring to. Or it might be one we haven't heard much about.

Tweak to JKRowling.com Welcome Page: Book Six On the Way?

Extremely perceptive reader Potterfan has notified us that the "Welcome" note on JKRowling.com's front page has changed slightly in the past day from this:

This is where I can tell you the truth about rumours or news stories, where I can share the extra information I haven't put in the books, where I can give you hints and clues about what's going to happen to Harry next, and where I can announce I've finished book six... and no, that's not going to happen very soon.

To this:

(Bold and italics TLC's. Thanks to Google's cache for showing us the old page, taken Dec. 13; also, our reader "El Cronista de Salem" says yesterday it still said "book six." The change was just made. As if HP fans would have let that go under the radar!)

Well, get as excited as you want, guys...there it is, right from the source, it is no longer accurate to say finishing book six is "not going to happen very soon." We don't know if it means the book IS done or just CLOSE to done, if it means we'll get a release date or just a notification that she's done...but there's no doubt the change was made (here's a screencap). One more time: We have NO IDEA what this means other than the change was made. Theorize away. (It certainly lends credence to the theory that something big is coming to JKR.com on Christmas day.)

I'm voting it's Neville. I've heard rumours that Voldermolt thought his ruin would come from Harry or Neville, but he went to Harry's house first. So who knows....

I can't wait for it to be finished :nana:

I finished it 12 hours after I bought it -- which is the day it was released in hardback. I think I'd read it a total of 3 times by the time the first month was up.

I'm glad I'm not the only that rereads books :D

I don't think it could be Neville. He's a pure blood. Remember, he was worried that he might be a squib. You can't have a squib unless both parents are full-bloods.

Unless like Harry one of Neville's parents was muggle-born. Harry after all is called a half-blood too and both his parents were wizard's but his mom was muggle-born. I think halfblood is sort of a misnomer in the wizarding world as it can just as easily be applied to quarter bloods like Harry and Neville too.

J.K. ROWLING'S HARRY POTTER AND THE HALF-BLOOD PRINCE
TO BE PUBLISHED ON 16th JULY, 2005 IN THE UNITED KINGDOM, THE UNITED STATES, CANADA, AUSTRALIA, NEW ZEALAND AND SOUTH AFRICA

LONDON, ENGLAND: NEW YORK, NY, USA: 12 noon London, 21st December, 2004

Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince, by J.K. Rowling, the sixth in the bestselling series, has been scheduled for publication on 16th July, 2005 in the United Kingdom, the United States, Canada, Australia, New Zealand and South Africa, it was announced today by Bloomsbury and Scholastic, her British and American publishers. On her website, www.jkrowling.com, J.K. Rowling announced last night that she had completed the book and delivered the manuscript to her two English language publishers.

In making the joint announcement, Nigel Newton, Chief Executive of Bloomsbury Publishing in the United Kingdom and Barbara Marcus, President of Scholastic Children's Books in the United States, said: "We are delighted to announce the publication date. J.K. Rowling has written a brilliant story that will dazzle her fans in a marvellous book that takes the series to yet greater heights. Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince delivers all the excitement and wonder of her bestselling Harry Potter novels."

In the previous book, Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix, the last chapter, titled 'The Second War Begins,' started:

'In a brief statement on Friday night, Minister for Magic Cornelius Fudge confirmed that He Who Must Not Be Named has returned to this country and is once more active.

"It is with great regret that I must confirm that the wizard styling himself Lord — well, you know who I mean — is alive and among us again," said Fudge.'

Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince takes up the story of Harry Potter's sixth year at Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry at this point as Voldemort’s power and followers are increasing day by day, in the midst of this battle of good and evil.

The author has already said that the Half-Blood Prince is neither Harry nor Voldemort. Intriguingly, the opening chapter of Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince has been brewing in J.K. Rowling's mind for 13 years.

Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix, J.K. Rowling's fifth Harry Potter book, was released on 21st June, 2003, and was the fastest-selling book in history on the first weekend of its publication. All five Harry Potter books, Harry Potter and the Philosopher's Stone, Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets, Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban, Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire, as well as Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix, have all been Number One bestsellers in the United Kingdom, the United States and around the world.

Bloomsbury will be publishing their standard children's hardback edition (ISBN 0747581088) and in addition an adult hardback edition (ISBN 074758110X), (the same text but with a different jacket) at the same time and both editions have a Recommended Retail Price of £16.99.

Sale of the book in all time zones preceding the United Kingdom is embargoed until 00:01 am BST (British Summer Time) on Saturday 16th July, 2005.
